Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy 9.5/10 A great spy movie. You really need to pay attention though because it skips around between different moments in time.

So, I've watched a lot of movies recently.
Dawn of the Dead (1978). So, I watched The Walking Dead and love it. Now, I'm interested in zombie films, so I started with this one. DAYUM. This was VERY good. Of course, the zombie makeup looks dated, but still, it was really fun watching because of the characters. There are 4 main characters and you like every one of them. The premise is cool, with them all being in a big shopping mall. Definitely the best zombie movie I've seen. 8/10 *** Zombieland. Now, this is a bit of a change in terms of zombie movies, as this is a comedy more than anything, with a Twinkie loving redneck and two girls constantly screwing over our geeky but relatable protagonist. However, this like DotD '78 focuses on the characters more than the zombies, which in this case is very great, but this feels a lot like Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, with it being about a geeky guy trying to get with a hot girl in an unrealistic situation. This also has the little floating text and such, and is a great film in both comedy and drama, but not action or horror as with most zombie films. 8/10 *** Army of Darkness. Well, I haven't seen the first two Evil Dead movies, but this one had an interesting premise, so I decided to watch it. It has some of the greatest one liners in all of history and a likable, but incompetent protagonist named Ash. The slapstick got old and monotonous after a while and it was mostly Ash driving the film. The ending is a cliffhanger, and sadly not Evil Dead 4 was made, but there are still comics with hilarious titles like "Ash Saves Obama." 6.5/10 *** Dawn of the Dead (2004). Aww yeah, they really remade one of the best zombie movies of all time. Is it horribly horrible? Well... First off, it's only a remake in title and premise only. None of the characters are given the same name and only a few traits are shared. This does allow the writers to come up with new ideas, but this does, in fact turn into an average modern horror film. Sure, we've got things like running zombies, but that's one of the few cool things about this movie. It lacks the charm of the old DotD and instead replaces it with a bunch of 1-dimensional characters you don't really care seeing off'd. However, this film introduced me to the genius of Richard Cheese, a guy who sings very vulgar songs in a lounge-style. Even though they only played one of his songs, it's still fan-freaking-tastic. But the rest of the movie... ehh. 5/10. *** The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Now, this is the first western film I've seen, which is sad because I feel as if nothing in that genre will ever top this movie. It's about the ambivalent relationship between Blondie (the Good) and Tuco Ramirez (the Ugly). They hear from a dying soldier that there is $200,000 buried in a cemetery. Only problem, Tuco knows the name of the cemetery and Blondie knows the name of the grave. This leads to many kickass and badass antics, however, another slimy bastard named Angel Eyes (the Bad), a mercenary, follows them and plans to take the treasure for himself. Also, there's a Civil War happening or something, but blehh. 9/10 *** Pulp Fiction. Made a thread for this already, but here's the OP: Quote:
*** Kill Bill. Since they're both just volumes, I'll review each and then review it as one big film. The premise is that Beatrix Kiddo was gunned down at her own wedding by a man named Bill and 4 others part of his group, the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, which Kiddo used to be part of. She somehow tanks a gunshot to the head and is comatose for 4 years. When she wakes up, she vows revenge on all of them (which includes David Carradine, a redneck, and 3 very hot women). This is a remarkable nonlinear film that has the classic Tarantino wit and style to it all. The first volume is much more action packed as she gets a katana from her a man named Hattori Hanzo, who apparently makes uperpowerful blades. She goes after O-Ren Ishii (aka Cottonmouth), played by stunning Lucy Liu, and her giant legion of Yakuza. She also goes after Vernita Green (aka Copperhead) as well. It's a very gory film with many over the top fight scenes and a stylish final battle. However, it has more violence than story, but that's made up for in the next volume. 7/10 The second volume is a lot slower paced and deals with not only Budd (aka Sidewinder), the bitchy Elle Driver (aka California Mountain Snake), but also the final confrontation with Bill and an extra twist at the end. We also learned about her vigorous training in China with a man named Pai Mei, who seems to come out of the Kung-Fu craze of the 60s and 70s. He's a pretty big ass but he's extremely powerful. The final act with Bill has some of Uma Thurman's best acting ever. It's honestly phenomenal how they pulled that whole end off. I actually like this more than the first volume, which might surprise some of the people who've watched these. 8.5/10 Overall. This story of revenge, drama, and clever wit blends together into being one of my favorite films of all time and has landed Tarantino as being my 2nd favorite director of all time, right behind Christopher Nolan. THAT'S a feat. 9.5/10 *** The Hobbit. I read half of the book. It was nothing like that half. Plus, the beginning had random expositions and was really slow. BUT THE REST KICKED ASS. Also, Dr. Watson as Bilbo was one of the smartest moves ever made by Peter Jackson. The fight scenes were breathtaking, Gollum is as awesome as ever, and seeing Saruman insist that Sauron is not coming back makes me just giggle. 8.6/10 *** Scarface. VERY vulgar and deals with LOTS of cocaine, but anyways, it's about a Cuban immigrant named Tony Montana who gets a job by selling drugs. Eventually, he works his way to the top, says the f-word at least 1000 times and we see how power corrupts one asshole into becoming a bigger asshole. Not a movie for the sensitive but still, very interesting. 8/10

The Odd Life of Timothy Green
10/10 I watched this movie today and I found it friggin beautiful and compelling. I found it to be an emotional movie and even wanted to shed a tear at a lot of parts (both good and bad) but of course, as a man, I must not let myself. It's about a couple in a room with two people and they tell the story of their experience raising a 10 year old boy that literally came out of nowhere. After they start talking the movie shifts to the not far past and the movie takes place during that time, with a few times going back to the present with the couple in the room. I can't think of a movie that is in the same storytelling form as this one to explain it better. But besides the story and emotion that came with it, I found the artistic aspect of the camera shots and the music to be beautiful. When I saw the trailer I didn't care for this movie, I thought it was going to be like the typical kid movie, but it wasn't. It was amazing. Plus, it teaches you that being weird is okay. 10/10

So I have seen a few movies lately.. two in theaters and a couple from red box. I will start with the theater movies. I have been lucky enough to receive free movie tickets in the past 30 days. The first movie I was able to see was :
The Hobbit: I am sure I don't need to explain this movie by now, if you haven't heard of it, read the book first. xD Anyways since my tickets were free I do not feel I wasted any money, even though I only spent money on a drink and a small bag of Kettle Corn. I was sort of bothered by this movie. One they made 3 movies out of it and it is the shortest book.. two because I am a horse person and a veterinary technician the condition of some of the ponies in the movie bothered me.. a lot. All together I give this movie a 7.5/10.. I have seen worse and better. Next one in the theater was: Zero Dark Thirty: I also won tickets for this movie so I only paid for a small bag of pop corn and a drink again. This movie was directed by the same team of Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal who directed The Hurt Locker. Click in the spoiler to see the link to the plot of the movie. Spoiler:
I loved it but not as much as I did the Hurt Locker. Warning it is not a movie for just anyone. 8.5/10. Red Box movies: The Apparition: >.> I fell asleep in it and never saw the ending.. what does that tell you. 3/10 Total Recall (the remake): I still like the original better but it wasn't to bad. I liked the phone in the hand idea.. xD Anyways I give it an 7/10 Looper: To be honest I did not have high hopes for this movie.. but it actually turned out to be better than what I thought. I would recommend seeing it. 7.5/10. Four Brothers: This was on TV and to my shame I had never seen it before. This movie blew me away. Yes it had a lot of typical inner city violence stereotype but it was actually a pretty good movie. One of my favorites for Mark Walburg. A 8.5/10.. It is rated R for reason people just warning you. xD That is it for now!

The last movie I watched on theater was The Hobbit. It had nice visuals, was funny and entertaining. After having watched all the Lord of the Rings movies, it might not be as fun but it is still good.
At home I watched Talladega Nights (Shake and Bake!) xD It is Friggin' Hilarious. Period.

The Green Hornet - Another good comedy film. [oh and leaf coffee is delish!] Anyway the mechanic aka "Kato" outshines the main protagonist and once you see the movie, you'll agree since he's pretty much what makes the green hornet look good with his creative and fascinating inventions. xD
