But still. If you want to kill a character off,you have to give them as much screen time as possible. That way,the death will be more dramatic.

The Anime does that job (somewhat it can be a bit predictable like it was for the Sora filler Arc).

Quick, unexpected deaths occur as well. Many authors can pull that card if they want to. Heck, I would've.

Neji didn't know he'd be revived, so for him it was real.
For us, though, I prefer everything to be fixed, so I disagree with you.
Let's say, until either of THESE die, you could be right, but when anyone does die, I MUST be right (or anything equivalent will happen), or Kishi is a real bastard:
Naruto (obviously)
Sakura (yes, she's still a "main" character, however useless)
Sasuke (not so sure, but MY theory relies on him surviving)
Hinata (yes, I DO think it'll end up with NaruHina, so deal with it)
And that's all, folks.
ALL others are kind of expendable, even if I definitely DON'T want most of them to die.
Like, Kakashi or Gai or anyone else from Konoha 11.
I don't want any of them to die, but they're NOT crucial to the PLOT, so it could still end up gruesome but playable.
(Guys, if Kishi wanted Hinata out, he would NOT use Neji as a decoy. )

I still want sasuke to die but I agree they really can't bring him back now it would just be a weak plot line.

Still, kinda weird, he's like twice older or so...
And I'm still into SasuSaku, due to MY own view on these characters.

Let's compare:
Sakura - gets SAVED (not her choice; his choice is the only one present there) by Kakashi, totally useless and does NOTHING for the plot OR Naruto.
Hinata - nearly DIES (her choice; she would, if not for Neji's choice to SAVE her) protecting Naruto, also is in the front lines AND does a lot of action (have you forgotten the InoHina combo recently?).
Yeah, SUUURE, let's ship NaruSaku.
(Unless you think that Sakura is only good for BREEDING... )

Let people ship what they like, man. Doesn't matter the reasoning or whatsoever. Shippers tend to stick to their feelings for it, nothing can change their mind on it. KakaSaku been a ship for a long time now.
