You don't want Kishi "addressing" relationships. Not with his track record. It's just an excuse to slaughter or exile people. This isn't a romance, not by any stretch. Those bits are just in there to string along certain segments of the viewership while he cooks up more twisted pain for his characters.

He loves creating orphans, and all of them are super-violent wizard godlings. A few of those are even ninjas.

Um, but seriously, Kishi makes me hate him when he does such stuff - and he does it regularly.
Why I think THIS time it SHOULD be an exception, is cause this is the MAIN character and the END of the series.
Thus, I'm pretty holding on an idea of "look, dude, you've tortured enough of them - now show us a HAPPY ending".
Also, if we count the number of NEAR-DEATH (or should-be-dead-normally) situations Sakura and Hinata went through - we MUST conclude that they were ACTIVELY "guarded" by the author.
Yes, he's a dick with "secondary" characters, to the degree of me nearly hating him for SOME cases, but he's equally "guardian angel" of the MAIN ones (and "main" in this case rather refers to shipping, not exactly screen time or dunno what).
Heck, tell me ONE example of Rookie 9 (plus others, like Gaara and siblings), who actually DIED (for real).
NONE!
Yes, their senseis and/or friends did die (and countless fodder and/or arc-size ones), but NOT anyone from the "main age group".
Even Gaara got "miraculously" revived from REAL DEATH!
And he's pretty "secondary", aka not even from their village.
Now, back to our GIRLS.
I didn't watch the entire Shippuden, so I didn't see ALL cases, BUT!
Sakura was NEARLY killed by Sasuke, but was SAVED.
Then, I do remember a few times she was fighting and LOSING, yet survived.
Hinata is an even stronger case of "author protection".
Look, she survived Pain's direct HIT!
Kakashi and Shizune had to have some "Nagato Balls" used on them (you do get my reference, right?), while Hinata was merely INJURED from a DIRECT ATTACK.
Well, I could go into how she ACTUALLY saved those two above by this action (cause this made Naruto first freaking out and Kyubiing, but he most probably forgave Pain after he found out that she wasn't killed, thus Pain NOT being SO bad - so he spared his life, which IN EFFECT revived Kakashi and Shizune, and some fodder too), but this isn't my point here.
Also, another case I saw myself - the Zetsu attack.
I STILL don't understand, WHY (apart from the reason being discussed right now) she wasn't killed while unconscious by the copying Zetsu.
This was so WEIRD (though very nice of Kishi).
Maybe (and most probably) there are more example of Rookie 9 PLUS surviving actual mortal danger, but even these examples already show that JJ's theory stands only for the "secondaries", not the "mains".
And yes, Kishi's the biggest TROLL I've seen by far.

The one thing that weakens your case is the one thing you cited to strengthen it: the end. That has always been the chief point at which main character deaths occur in popular fiction, whether it's the end of a season or the end of a series. True, Kishi hasn't established an MO for killing main characters, but since the end of the series is a kind of death anyway, that sort of thing is quite possible.

I doubt we'll see a dead NARUTO.
It just wouldn't fit the general mood of the series (unless Kishi is THAT much of a TROLL).
As for the others...
(This refers to DYING IN THE END, not THE BEGINNING or MIDDLE.)
I so far remember only ONE example of what you could be implying: Daredevil the Movie (his girlfriend dies by the villain, who is slain next).
But the reason it's a WRONG example, is cause that movie is a PREQUEL to the comic series, thus it was basically used as a REASON for it, not a FINALIZATION.
Thus, I see no reason for slaughtering anyone (significant enough, not fodder) in the END, if they actively survived so many times in the MIDDLE.
This leads to only two possible finals:
1. Everyone dies or gets Tsukuyomi'ed.
2. Nobody significant dies, but we do see a grand battle that kills off countless fodder.
(OK, there's also 1/2. Everyone dies or gets Tsukuyomi'ed, but then Rikkudo shows up and fixes everything.)
No other options I can see being viable right now.
And I do hope for the GOOD one, obviously.

I just don't think any of the outstanding relationship subplots will be resolved either, which means Kishi won't have to follow pattern. If Naruto ends up with either Hinata or Sakura, it will seem forced, either because it isn't like Naruto or isn't like Sakura, respectively. It would require development time I don't think Kishi has before the series ends.

As for primary characters dying at the end of a season or series or movie, it's pretty common, actually. The most famous example is JR from the series Dallas. There are many others.

Can't be as sure for older guys and definitely sure otherwise for some fodder.

Though, honestly, I see no reason why he couldn't END the series with some pairing future insights.
Um, the example might be funny, but Digimon 02 did just that - and it DIDN'T have romance AT ALL until the very last minutes of the last episode (ehem, those were REAL normal children, dudes).
Still, it DID show the FUTURE (aka ADULT) lives of the cast - and it DID show the pairings, even with children.
No reason for NARUTO to be any WORSE.

I agree, I used to be a NaruSaku fan, but now I'm hoping he doesn't even address it because there was no real built with any shipping. It's seems as if he was slowly builting NaruSaku in the beginning of part 2, when the writing was actually great, then he got sidetracked & made it solely about Naruto & Sasuke majority, which now peopls question his writing, I just think he wanted to end the manga to a point that he left some things out. I would rather that he just leave it alone now instead of forcing it.
