I just realized... I've played 7 games...
Besides events and reg gyarados, I've only gotten one lone shiny.

Cubone.

Emerald > LeafGreen > Pearl > Platinum > HeartGold > White > White 2

Couldn't stop laughing after that.

Also, I would freak out too after I had 3 GBAs and didn't shiny after 26thousand tries...

I got my first Shiny as a Shiny Bidoof... just minutes after my brother got a shiny Onix, then my shiny hunting started.
Got a Shiny Axew, Jolly too I believe, when I was just going to try for a shiny gigalath or Axew, just managed to get Axew

And recently got a Shiny Kyurem, which I use as a shiny Black Kyurem now, got it after 1000 soft resets

I've had a few encounters, excluding the Red Gyarados

Shiny Igglybuff in Crystal from the Odd Egg (50% chance of anything from that egg being shiny)
Shiny Geodude in Crystal: "GEODUDE used SELF-DESTRUCT!" "Nooo!"
Shiny Tangela in Gold: "Wild TANGELA fled!" I didn't even know they could flee
Shiny Geodude in Pearl (Was looking for Chansey to steal Lucky Eggs from. It's actually a different color than in Gen 2, cuz those are light brown but now they're gold)
Shiny Floatzel in Diamond (Gave away to a friend whom I don't talk to anymore ._. )
Shiny Magby in Crystal (Again from the Odd Egg, was intentionally trying for this one)
Shiny Shroomish in Ruby (Now a red Breloom)
Shiny Numel in Sapphire
Shiny Onix in LeafGreen (Was during my Nuzlocke run while I was grinding for the E4, LOL SHINY CLAUSE)
Shiny Budew in Platinum (Again, during my Nuzlocke run, but he had awesome stats, nature, and he survived the entire run and became a Roserade. In fact, he beat Cynthia's Togekiss!)
Shiny Magnemite in White 2 (Was doing Magnemite Coiling and got it off the GTS, with good stats and Magnet Pull....but no HP-Fire, making it...kind of useless :/ )

....Yes, I'm still waiting to find a Green Shiny in Emerald to go along with the Red Shiny in Ruby and Blue Shiny in Sapphire. Ironically, the colors that changed on both of those were originally green (Shroomish's spots, Numel's grass patch)

I played several Pokemon games without ever seeing a shiny at all.

My first shiny encounter was in Soul Silver while in the PokePark. Of course, Pokemon run away if you don't capture them immediately. It was a shiny Electabuzz. I was so shocked and ecstatic. Then I threw the Park Ball, it broke free, and ran away. ;~; I was so furious.

I had another encounter in Soul Silver, this one proving more successful. I was in the Bug-Catching Park and stumbled upon a shiny Minun. I caught it with a level ball. It was my first legit shiny.

About three weeks ago, I was playing Black 2 and was walking through the tall grass. I had a repel on, but my Pokemon level wasn't high enough to keep away all Pokemon. I got caught in a battle and became annoyed, thinking my repel had kept everything away. What appears before me? A shiny Scrafty. I caught it easily. Second legit shiny.

I got a ton of fake shinies gotten through GTS trading. I think maybe one or two are legit.

I also have the Shiny Gyarados from Soul Silver and the Shiny Gible from Black 2.

I think the first Shiny I bumped into was in Fire Red. It was a Mankey.
I think that's the only shiny I bumped into that the game didn't give me.
One of my old friends bumped into two shinies in a row. Bronzor or Bronzong and something else. I know he caught them both

Sai, if it was a Dual Encounter, I don't believe it

If he had like 2 DS's, I believe it

You just can't catch 2 pokemon, in one fight, as the game won't let you.

I'm like 100 pokemon off from the Shiny Charm, then it's on to a Shiny Zorua!
