Are any of you posting here actually From Scotland, England, Wales or ireland? It comes down to money at the end of the day, Aberdeen being the oil capital of Europe has a major influence in the scots decision.

After making some research I see that Scotland has all the requirements necessary to build up a strong, independent economy. Scotland is currently the largest producer of petroleum in the European Union and controls large amounts of oil in the North Sea. And although the amount of oil is decreasing because of the British use, approximately 920 million tonnes of crude oil remain in Scottish waters. Scotland also has enormous energy resources, a very rich fishing industry and is a popular destination for tourism.

These factors should enable Scotland to maintain a good economy and good welfare should they become independent.

And this is why I refrained from having an opinion because unless I were to cram in two centuries of English history, study the political climate of these nations, and read multiple economic analyses from independent sources (not just the Economist Wooster ) my opinion would be pretty misguided. Nice to hear another side of the story.

Anywho, Ninja of Cao is wrong. THe oil production out of the North Sea continues to drop. It is not enough to keep Scotland going. Notice his words out of the EU. Norway is not a memeber fo the EU, it gets much, much more oil about 3 mil barrels/day. Norway and Scotland have similar populations. Scotland is already starting in a hole relative to Norway, and it will only get worse.


From wikipedia: UK oil production has seen two peaks, in the mid 1980s and late 1990s, with a decline to around (1.9 million barrels) per day in the early 1990s.[ Monthly oil production peaked at (84.9 million barrels) in January 1985 although the highest annual production was seen in 1999, with offshore oil production in that year of (398 million barrels) and had declined to (220 million barrels) in 2007. This was the largest decrease of any other oil exporting nation in the world, and has led to Britain becoming a net importer of crude for the first time in decades

Wikipedia is hardly "nonsense." As a matter of fact a when they did an evaluation of a set of random articles for every 2 mistakes by Encylopedia Brittanica (a widely accepted primary source, that requires a paid subscription), there were only 3 mistakes on Wikipedia.

Schools and colleges and so on forbid anyone using Wikipedia because we have been taught that it's a pile of rubbish and that it cannot be a trustworthy source of information. It's good to start you off but you cannot be considered 100% serious if you base every bit of factual info from a public wiki.

My origins of my direct family members lie in Scotland, I know that it's had a lot of problems in it's history, so considering that, it might not be wise, yet since it's been something that they've wanted for a while now, I am guessing that they must think that they will be alright on their own, so I would support it, only to the fact though, that, it's something that they've wanted for a long time and because my direct family's ancestry, comes from there.
On my part though, I'm part Irish, my last name may be Scottish, yet it's only an inherited name because, of my half siblings are part Scottish...plus part Irish too, lol.
