Eminem is the best of this generation but he's still overrated lol. He's one of the best rappers of all time but because of the ridiculous exposure, "Oh look it's a white rapper and he's good let's hop on the bandwagon," everyone and their mom has heard about him. He's one of the first people someone will jump to when they don't know about hip hop. I don't hate on him for it, as a matter of fact he's my brother's favorite rapper, but I'd be wrong if I didn't say race was a part of his success. Again it doesn't take anything away from him because that's out his control.

We are all a little too young but the consensus seems to be Rakim is the king of rap music, and pioneer for all the greats that we know and love, KRS-One, Wu Tang Clan Dre fall a little behind him for early to mid 90s dominance.

After that for mid to late 90s, I'd say the big 3 are Pac, Biggie, and Eminem. In terms of rap ability (not as artists and personalities) and relevance (mainstream media exposure, sales, as icons) I think this is the order.

Biggie > Eminem > Tupac > Jay-Z

Then for this generation from late 90s to early 2000s

Eminem > Jay-Z ~ Nas ~ 50 Cent

Later on through the mid 2000s it became more like this

Wayne ~ Kanye West > Eminem ~ Jay-Z > Lupe ~ 50 Cent ~ TI

And through a strange turn of events, Wayne went on a decline, 50 decided to become a business tycoon making music more for fun, Andre 3000 decided to enjoy stardom and just relax, TI and DMX got locked up slowing their careers, stars like Ludacris and Busta Rhymes lost a bit of their influence, Em decided to start working independently with Slaughterhouse and only occasionally spits and the door swung wide open for the next generation to take over. With the establishment of MMG the order is now

Rick Ross w/ Maybach Music > Kanye West w/ G.O.O.D Music > Wayne with YMCMB

His race actually held him back, since everyone discriminated against him when he wasn't so famous. e.e Rakim is amazing tho. And Biggie and Tupac are good, but not among MY favorites.

Rakim, KRS-One, Nas, DMX, Eminem, Pac and Biggie, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Redman, GZA, Meth and pretty much everyone else from Wu-Tang A Tribe Called Quest, Mobb Deep, Gangstarr, Jay-Z and AZ, Slaughterhouse, Kendrick Lamar, Roots, Outkast, Run-DMC, Fugees, Big L and Pun, MOP, Busta Rhyme, Compton's Most Wanted, Grandmaster Flash, Juice Crew, etc.

These were the ones coming to my mind, yes that's real rap, not some Drake and Lil Wayne crap.
