My 2 cents on Gangnam Style

I remember when I first saw this song. It was in a PM from kani, who showed me what it was since I didn't know. I skimmed over the video and discarded it as another KPOP track that I will never remember.

...then a few days later, my mom asked me to show her the video, as she saw it in Time Magazine. Odd, but I was a bit surprised when it had become a meme. I thought it wouldn't be anything more than a viral video that circles the web for a few weeks and a month or two, but to my next surprise, I was wrong again.

Some IRL kids randomly did the dance and even played it in the middle of school. This had been a month or so after I had heard it for the first time. Remember, these are stupid Texan Fishmen. Of course, I could've gone the hipster route and comment on how I knew of it before it got popular. However, I've decided to go on a more open approach:

Ask people why they like it.

I've gotten responses that range from, "It's hilariously awesome" to "It's just so stupid that it's funny" Of course I've gotten many negative responses of people just plain out calling it unnecessary and pointless.

However, Buckley from his series A Dose of Buckley on Youtube said that it was very reminiscent of the Macarena, as this song appeared at a time when it's culture was flourishing. He brought up that with the Latin craze of the time, people like Shakira and Enrique Iglesias had gone into the mainstream from things like that.

And look at it now. People are getting a craze with JPOP and KPOP here, along with a sudden interest in sushi that apparently recently blossomed here in the good 'ol US of A.

The way I see it, Gangnam Style isn't a hilariously great party song or a giant blast of Asian annoyance (much like me

) , but is a time capsule of our current culture.

Accept the madness.

(p.s. I still don't like the song, even though it's ear bleedingly catchy. Sorry Kani

I....I just think it's a fun, catchy song. ._. And I don't even like Kpop that much.
People will probably forget about it eventually. Remember Rebecca Black's "Friday" song? Just like that.

lol I enjoy the song. Not something I'd have on my iPod though. I prefer songs with english lyrics xD. But I still love it. I watched the first episode of SNL of the season, and they had a skit with Psy and it was just hilarious xD I also like how he just takes this amount of publicity liek a baws. He seems like a cool guy.
