Get a friend or sibling to buy the game. Make sure you have a tv show or a movie you like handy. Start the game and pick a starter, change game settings so the text speed is as fast as possible, go through all the annoying tutorials while mashing "A" until you reach the first city with a gym and a multiplayer upper level of the pokemon center. Trade over that starter to your sibling / friend. Restart game and repeat process twice. Get all three starters. Allow your sibling / friend to do the same.

I picked Snivy, and then Tepig would be easily second, because not knowing what other pokemon I would find in B&W:
I just figured it'd be much harder to find a strong grass or fire-type, while its easy to pinpoint a good water-type.

grass has TOO MANY WEAKNESS and low defenses

Fire/fighting - a boaring and overusd combo. It is not helpful what soo ever. Weak defense and only good at close ragned fighting

It barely has any weakenss ( that can not be easily overcome by learning icebeam or earthquake)

Great balanced stats and super cool to look at. I do not see anything wrong with the water types

This is my point! Water pokeom barely have a weakeness this is kinda one exception but you can return or teach it rock slide/stone edge.

give Serperior it's hidden ability instead of overgrow and it becomes a good pokemon

I didn't like any of them. Serpior had horrible attack stats and I wanted to get through the game quickly so he was out of the question. Emboar is fire and fighting and he is slow, horrible overused combination and he doesn't make it work. Infernape is suprior in everyway. I picked oshawott because he looked cute and learns sword dance and aqua jet.

It depends what you like

Superior - has AMAZING speed and good sp.defence................ the rest SUCK IMO and speed is not tha vital

Emborar- Great HP, attack and Sp.Attack but again the REST SUCK! I need a pokemon that can take a hit so since your defense is poop your OUT

Samurott- Very balanced and I like his moveset. Retailiate is very inspirational PLUS it has few weakensses

I agree Oshawott seems more a Water/Ice type, but its still the best choice if you want a balanced Pokemon, especially if you get it with a neutral nature, so its stats grow quite balanced

Piplup should have been an ice type aswell

Contrary it givs serperior a boost in special attack when it uses Leaf Storm which makes Serperior able to do real damage. Too bad it can't use this ability in games yet.

sad how both Blaziken and Infernape are top tier pokemon while Emboar is traped in the bottom tier.

Sadly Piplup ends Water/Steel as Empoleon, I was expecting it to be Water/Ice too, main reason I love old Pokemon like Lapras and Dewgong is due to both types hehe

Still, once a Water Pokemon knows an Ice type move, give it NeverMeltIce to make the move a bit stronger, it can be a lot of help

Also funny how since Torchic onwards all Fire type starters go Fire/Fighting ever since

Wonder if Tepig will be somewhat better in B2/W2

My main need in battles is defense/sp.defense if you have that you have the battle. Speed is poop but at/sp.att is important to

most people consider dragon the best type since they have super high stats and only 2 weaknesses. Speed is an important stat for many pokemon like Starmie and Jolteon.

well water has only 2 weakness as well (although Swampert just has one)
Their are more water-types and most dragon types are legendary

Defense/attack >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>..speed

all stats are equal in importance, speed allows a pokemon with weak defence but high offense to win battles and to damage the enemy's next pokemon.

Jolteon is top tier because of it's speed and speical attack stats without it's speed Jolteon would even be able hurt anyone with it's weak defence

But I am saying speed just by itself is weak

(sp)attack/(sp)defense is the ULTIMATE combo

speed is lame. you will get your turn eventually. As long as you can tank a hit and dish a hit your good. Do not forget sometimes being slow is bettwer due to trick room. BEing fast can be a SERIOUS downfall!

THeir are also moves that make you go first even if you are not fast to begin with
