It's about people going insane, a curse, and creepiness e.e I think that's all I can say without spoiling it xD You should watch it, Baycun o.o It's kinda confusing at first, but you'll get it

It's about a group of teenage friends residing in the town of Hinamizawa where a legend of a God's Curse is ruling the people.

Keiichi only recently moved to town and is soon confronted with the legend when a photographer and the towns nurse are found dead under mysterious circumstances.
Very soon afterwards, Keiichis new found friends begin to behave severely crazed and are appearantly out for his life...

However there is WAY more to it than this.It's 07th Expansion afterall.Known for mind blowing twists and tremendously deep storylines and characters memorable for ages.
You gotta watch the whole series though to understand just what's going on as each episode sets a new piece in this massive puzzle.

I also recommend Umineko which is EVEN better than Higurashi and that says something.
It's made by 07th Expansion as well thus the direct follower of Higurashi taking place 3 years after it.
Storywise it's majorly different as it's a much bigger Thriller to the point that the viewer is challenged by the Authors and ANimators to find the culprit themselves with the given hints.
OH and Kyrie and Rudolf = Most badass married couple ever.
Don't get me started on Battler, the guy makes Light and L seem like Kindergarteners in terms of Logic and Intelligence.
