Is Racism A Conservative Value?

The question is NOT are Conservatives racist. Remember that.
This has nothing to do with what any one conservative thinks of
the issue of racism. This has to do with whether racism is a
conservative value or if it is not.

I will argue that racism is a conservative value.

My argument for doing so

1. Conservatism is the upholding of traditional values
2. Racism is a traditional value
3. Racism is therefore Conservative

Anyone want to debate me on this?

Depends on where you are.

In American, conservatism is conserving classical liberalism.

Of course, if one purposed to reinstate slavery now, it would be radical because there is no slavery.

I agree with you. Though that may only be because I oppose most styles of conservatism I am familiar with.

It depends. Opposing discrimination is traditional value for some people. If Conservatism supports such values, then it negates the effects of racism. Though personally I don`t like Conservatism as it opposes change, even towards better things!!!

Not really, it was a strong southern value and an iffy northern value. Those apart of the westward expansion were even iffier.

But if slavery was reinstated then that means it once was a traditional value!

But is is not now, so it's raicalism.

Everything was once a traditional value somewhere at sometime, so that means everything is conservative by your definition. :B

slavery doesn't have to be reinstated, the government found a way to make people slaves without realizing it. God Bless Capitalism

Wooster beat me to it, explain this logical loop and then the conversation can continue. Something being "traditional" is just a product of it being introduced into and then reinforced through society over time.
