Default Drug tests

Someone I know brought up that employers shouldn't be allowed to give them. What do you think?
I think yes, they should. Maybe not worry about weed so much, as compared to the other drugs. Because hard drugs like cocaine, heroine, meth, they give you long-term damage, most times permanent, and make you crazy and obsessive. Now, I wouldn't want to hire someone that will end up flipping out in front of a customer and possibly hurting them. I think pills that they shouldn't be taking should be part of the group of drugs be watched for.
I don't know the inner workings of drug tests though, because I don't give them, and I haven't taken one, but they might already have pills in that group. As for the issue with weed (if the drug tests differentiate the types of drugs), I think that should either be the employer's decision to still hire them, or just not worry about it at all. I would still have the employers keep a close eye on them to make sure they don't do it on the job.

Come on man. I'm liberal and tend to be a free thinker when it comes to these things although I've never tried drugs myself but this conversation is ridiculous and it's the kind if argument conservatives try to point to when using their slippery slope logic. You want employers to differentiate between drugs and take it case by case and add just another long and annoying process for people to appeal when it doesn't work for them. No.

The point of drugs are to alter your consciousness. People can dispute the psychological causes behind it all they want but the main effect of a drug is that it impairs your judgement. In the workplace the goal is efficiency and productivity. Drugs hinder the main goals of the workplace therefore they shouldn't be allowed and other than professions involving self employment I can't think of a single job that would benefit from having its employees drunk or high.

Default Re: Drug tests

Being a former meth addict, I have no problem with drug tests. In all honesty I think it needs to be blood tests. Urinalysis tests can be gotten around, even with the new testing. Drugs can take you down the wrong path people, take my word for it!

Yes, god forbid we have things like antibiotics or painkillers because a percentage of our population will misuse them

Hope this was a joke. I don't want the beta testers for Halo 4 high, so that they don't give accurate reviews of the online gameplay. I want sober, skilled players who can actually analyze the game and give good input for improvement.

As for strippers. Never been to a strip club, but I definitely wouldn't want the woman attempting to arouse me smelling like booze and looking malnourished from coke abuse. Maybe I'm in the minority here but I think that's a reasonable request.

I only said exclude weed, because as far as I knew, it's not as bad as the other drugs. But thinking on it now, maybe it would be wise to include that with the other drugs. Because even if they don't do it at the workplace, they most likely will do it before, which as you said, will affect their ability to work.

Default Re: Drug tests

If I was an employer, I'd be happy to know I wasn't hiring a Meth head or Heroin addict. I'm all for the legalization of things like Pot, but there are much worse drugs out there that are a danger to society. I wouldn't want an employee stealing from me so he could pay for his crack fix, or hire someone who isn't going to come into work because they couldn't find a high that day and can't handle getting out of bed.

It's a serious matter, and anyone who smokes weed is capable of quitting for a few weeks before job hunting so that they can pass their test.

anything that is not legal is illegalized for a relatively good reason. The best employees don't use any drugs (for non-medical reasons) legal or not
