This is a crossover between Naruto and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
The battles are fought in a perspective from the side, like most fighting games. However, this does not necessarily mean one-on-one duels. At many occasions, you alone may have to fight several characters at once (or the other way around), and these will not be support characters but active fighters. There is also a three-dimensional perspective when you play outside combat, or when you fight against numerous soldiers instead of major characters. Soldiers are weak compared to your character, both in attack and defense, but may overwhelm you with sheer manpower.
There are two modes for the game. In the story mode, you will have the option to choose between the Naruto world or the Avatar world. Both worlds have been changed for this game, so that nations will be united and all characters will be alive at once (see the Plot section). After that, you will play through many levels of single combat as well as enormous battlefields where you must assist your own army or destroy countless of enemy troops.
In the free battle mode, you can select any character(s) to fight each other. You may fight against the AI as well as online or with a friend next to you. There may be up to three characters for each player, but note that it will be difficult to fight multiple characters at once. For fair gameplay, put the same amount of characters for both sides. Note that support characters are also available, and can be used if you wish the battle to be over more quickly. You may have two support characters. If the characters you selected are fully active characters, you can use the support buttons to give orders for attack or defense. If you press attack, they will do their best to finish the opponent until a new order is given. If you press defense, they will stay near you and try to protect you.
Characters are as equal as possible in strength for fair gameplay, but you may understand that certain playable characters don't possess bending or ninjutsu (example, Sokka from Avatar). These characters can still run, jump, and fight in close combat just like any other character, but they rarely have ranged attacks.
Common Jutsu are attacks that are automatically used should you attack your opponent repeatedly. They do more damage than your basic attacks, but require a constant barrage of blows before they are activated.
Jutsu or Bending are special attacks in the game that are easy to do and fairly easy to resist for skilled characters. If it hits, however, it will cause a lot of damage (sometimes it will even hit multiple opponents at once). Non-ninja or non-bending characters will use a special attack to do damage instead.
Ultimate Jutsu or Ultimate Bending are very powerful attacks that are impossible to resist once they have begun, but it is possible to stop them. To use an Ultimate technique, you must 1) have full chakra or chi, and 2) hit your opponent within a few seconds after you've pressed the chakra load button. If successful, you will launch your unstoppable Ultimate technique. If you fail to hit your opponent before those few seconds run out, you may not attempt to use an Ultimate technique again for a set amount of seconds.
Awakening is available to all characters. At less than 50 percent of health, they may grow a lot stronger and be immune to Ultimate techniques until the Awakening mode runs out (you can decide how long the Awakening mode lasts, from 10 seconds to unlimited time). To Awaken, you must 1) have full chakra or chi, and 2) hold the chakra load button without interruption. When in Awakened mode, you can't use Ultimate Techniques, but you will have a new type of techniques known as Awakened Techniques, which are stronger than normally.
You may notice that some aspects of the plot has been changed. For example, Zuko got his scar in a battle with the Hokage, and the Uchiha clan was massacred by the Fire Nation, while Itachi instead slaughtered the Air Nomads.
Note: Please don't hate me if you think the plot is bad or incorrect. It's only experimental and I may change it later on.
The Fire Nation, having subdued all other countries of the world, wishes to expand even further. Ozai, the new Fire Lord, sends out his son Zuko together with general Iroh and lead a fleet of warships across the ocean, hoping to find territory past the great sea. They arrive at the Water Country, a destabilized region under the reign of Yagura. The warships of the Fire Nations, combined with tanks and artillery power, easily crush the ninja resistance and eventually manage to kill the Mizukage himself. Mei Terumi becomes the leader of a resistance movement in the Hidden Mist Village, including ninjas such as Haku and Zabuza.
Meanwhile, word of the ongoing conflict reaches the Hidden Leaf Village as a reinforced Fire Nation army attacks the Country of Lightning. The Third Hokage decides to search for a peaceful solution, and the village people lives on as usual. During the chunin exams, however, a sudden attack by the Fire Nation causes massive damage to the village and eventually only a handful ninja remain. The younger ninjas practicing in the chunin exams join together to form a last line of defense, barely managing to fend off the massive Fire Nation army. A battle occurs in which the Hokage faces prince Zuko and general Iroh, along with several fire benders. After killing the benders and knocking down Iroh, the Hokage is almost out of chakra and forced to commit a desperate act to save his village: he sacrifices his own life with the Reaper Death Seal technique, attempting to call upon the Death God to consume Zuko's soul. The technique fails as Iroh intervenes, disturbing the technique and causing it to only hit Zuko's eye, giving him a permanent scar. Iroh and Zuko flees as the battle is about to be lost, mainly at the hands of Naruto and Gaara (both in their Jinchuriki forms). However, the casualties are great for the Hidden Leaf. The entire Uchiha clan has been massacred by Fire Nation soldiers, the Hokage is dead, and most of the village lies in ruin. In order to survive the next attack, the surviving Leaf ninja flee to the Hidden Sand Village where they gather a defensive force.
Somewhere between these points, Itachi travels to the other continent and slaughters all of the Air Nomads in retaliation for the massacre of his clan, leaving Aang as the only survivor.
Just as expected, the Fire Nation attacks the Hidden Sand Village, but meets heavy resistance from the defenders. Toph attempts to use her Earth Bending skills to fight Gaara, but after he begins to fly with his sand she can no longer see him, and is defeated by the Sand Prison technique (though she survives, as the Sand Burial was only meant to make her unconscious). The battle is concluded with a ninja victory, and the united Leaf and Sand forces march to retake the Hidden Leaf Village.
Aang, furious over the slaughter of his people, is sent to the ninja world as the Fire Nation's "secret weapon". Using his ability to bend all the elements, he fends off several attempts by the ninja to retake the Leaf Village. He is then attacked by Naruto, who manages to convince him that he should not hurt innocent people for the doing of one person. Aang retreats, promising himself to punish the one responsible for the massacre of the Air Nomads.
With the Leaf Village retaken and multiple ninja offensives pushing back the Fire Nation's forces, Mei Terumi decides that now is the time for an uprising. Many people from the Water Tribes have emigrated to the conquered Village of the Hidden Mist, because the Fire Nation decided to use the North and South Poles for gathering resources such as oil. This causes the rebels to face heavy resistance from Water Benders, as well as Fire Nation soldiers. Zabuza has his arms made unusable by Blood Bending master Hama while Haku is fighting Katara and Sokka. Haku abandons his victory in order to save Zabuza, using his own body to stop an incoming ice attack. Haku dies and Zabuza, enraged, slaughters a large amount of Water Tribe warriors before he is finally killed by Hama's Blood Bending. Despite the loss of two powerful ninjas, Mei Terumi is crowned Mizukage of the free Hidden Mist Village after the enemy is defeated.
Around this point, two years have passed, and in the Naruto world you can see this as the point where the Shippuden story begins.
The leading Kages of the shinobi world gather to discuss future tactics. They decide that the only way to win is to attack the enemy in their own territory. To do this, they send an elite corps of ninjas known as the Akatsuki across the sea to the Earth Kingdom, where they are meant to kill the crazy king Bumi and conquer Ba Sing Se. Deidara begins the attack by flying over the city on his clay bird, dropping explosive clay bombs everywhere to cause damage and confusion in the city. Meanwhile, a group of Akatsuki members (Sasori, Hidan, and Kakuzu) penetrate the outer wall after Deidara dropped his most powerful clay bomb on it, erasing a large part of the wall. The "immortal duo", Hidan and Kakuzu, stay behind to fend off the guards while Sasori enters into Ba Sing Se, where he is confronted by the Dai Li, an elite group of earth benders. His puppet body, Hiruko, is destroyed and he becomes enraged by losing his favorite puppet. He summons his 100 puppets and uses them to kill off all Dai Li agents, but some of them are destroyed in the process. Sasori and his remaining puppets attack the royal castle, which is conveniently visited by Aang and his friends. A battle occurs in which Sasori severely wounds and poisons Sokka, causing Aang to enter his Avatar state in anger. Aang, who never wants to kill, makes an exception because Sasori is a puppet, and destroys him by setting him on fire, after destroying all of his puppets. Sokka is healed by Katara and survives.
Kakuzu and Hidan have slaughtered the massive amount of soldiers sent to kill them, but not entirely without effort. When king Bumi arrives with fellow Dai Li warriors, Hidan is almost out of chakra while Kakuzu only have two hearts left. Bumi crushes Hidan with enormous stone boulders, though it does not kill him it makes it impossible for him to move. Kakuzu kills some Dai Li agents before his last heart is pierced by Katara, who created a spear of ice for this purpose.
As the Akatsuki attack failed, the ninjas select a new target: an enormous weapons factory in the heart of the Fire nation. Volunteers are enlisted to destroy this facility, as well as to kill the Fire Lord if possible. The ninjas accepted for this mission are Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, Hinata Hyuga, and Jiraiya. They raid the Fire Nation capital, where Sasuke unexpectedly meets his long lost brother, Itachi. Itachi reveals that he has worked as a spy in the Fire Nation for a long time, and warned them about a comet that would soon appear, giving all Fire Benders increased power. The group refuses to abandon their mission, though, and Itachi joins them in order to make sure his brother survives. They are soon intercepted by the Fire Nation princess Azula and her companions Ty Lee and Mai. In order to make sure the mission is completed, the group splits up. Jiraiya and Naruto runs towards the mission objective and easily defeats Mai when she attempts to stop them. Two separate battles then occur, in which Hinata fights against Ty Lee. Both utilize precise strikes to stop an enemy's chakra/chi flow, but Hinata soon proves that the Gentle Fist style is far superior to any common blows when she utilizes Twin Lion Fist to win the battle. Itachi is about to attack Azula when Sasuke pushes him back, saying that he wants to show his long lost brother how strong he has become. Itachi steps back and Sasuke faces off against Azula, both utilizing fire and lightning as their primary elements. Sasuke is only slightly wounded, and in the end he uses both the Sharingan and Kirin, effectively fending off Azula's attacks after which he strikes her with a lightning she had never imagined the strength of. Itachi says that he is proud of his brother, and the two take off towards the royal palace along with Hinata.
In the Fire Nation weapons factory, Jiraiya and Naruto meets Aang and Bumi, who warns them not to attack this continent anymore. They refuse to flee, however, and Jiraiya takes on the two enemies while Naruto is ordered to set a number of bombs to destroy the factory. During the battle, Jiraiya overwhelms king Bumi and hits him in the chest with a Rasengan, apparently killing him. Aang becomes enraged and enters Avatar state, while Jiraiya is forced to enter Sage Mode. They fight a fierce and long battle until Jiraiya suddenly goes back to his normal state, severely weakened from using too much chakra. Aang fails to take control of his own mind, and in the Avatar state he kills Jiraiya. Naruto sees this and furiously attacks Aang with a Rasengan, but is pushed back, He only becomes even more enraged, eventually using chakra from the Nine-tailed Fox . Naruto, with as many as six tails, defeats Aang and puts him out of Avatar state, unconscious on the ground. Eventually Naruto returns to his senses and leaves the factory, after which he detonates the bombs and watches it being erased.
Meanwhile, the Fire Lord Ozai sees his most powerful benders from all nations slaughtered by the two Uchiha brothers, and begins to fear his defeat. But then Sozin's comet appears, and Ozai suddenly becomes far more powerful than ever before. This time, Itachi is the one who demands to fight alone, and attacks the Fire Lord. Despite being in his strongest possible state, Ozai seems overwhelmed by Itachi's constant use of genjutsu and clones. But unknown to Sasuke, who is confident in his brother's ability, Itachi suffers from a disease that is beginning to show. He begins to cough blood and becomes slower with his movements, and Ozai sets his Akatsuki coat on fire. Itachi manages to force himself into further combat, removing his coat and activating the Mangekyo Sharingan. Summoning Amaterasu, Itachi attempts to set Ozai on fire, but fails as Zuko appears and attacks Itachi from behind. Itachi is forced to direct the Amaterasu in front of himself as a shield, draining the last of his chakra and making him incapable to finish the battle. Sasuke rushes to his brother, who through a special technique passes on all his powers to Sasuke. Itachi then dies, and Sasuke awakens an enhanced Mangekyo Sharingan as he vows to kill the Fire Lord and Zuko. Zuko is eager to attack, but Sasuke impales him with the Chidori Sharp Spear technique, throwing him against a wall and severely wounding him. Sasuke then battles with Ozai, and despite the strength of the comet, the Fire Lord fails to defeat the young ninja. Sasuke punches a hole through Ozai's chest with a left-handed Chidori, and then uses his right hand to summon the Kirin, completely destroying Ozai's body and leaving only his crown on the floor. Sasuke then leaves, presuming Zuko to be dead.
The ninjas reunite in the Hidden Leaf Village for celebration, but in the ending sequence, Zuko is seen alive and well as he takes his father's crown from the floor and puts it on his own head. This gives the idea that the battle is not won yet.
