Default Strangling puppies in the name of art?

So, hey, listen to this. An actor was banned after a plan to strangle puppies on stage. What do you think about this?

Art as it is today is in the eye of the beholder, there's plenty of people out there that will see this as art and plenty more that won't. Neither of them will be wrong or right. Arguing whether it is or isn't art is futile.

Better to argue whether killing the animals to prove a greater point is justified or not.

^Agreed.

Always better to form an argument either based on evidence, or philosophical qualms that can be argued systematically and logically. Killing sentient beings without a significant direct physical benefit is wrong, and I'm sure this premise can be argued but it'd be a lot easier to defend than killing them in the name of some greater cause or concept that the people who prescribe to have not reached a consensus on defining. I'm sure if you asked 1,000 artists what is art you'd get at least 50 different definitions...it'd be a lot different for subjects like science, math, and history which have general goals and commonalities.

Please let me drop him on his head with a wrestling move! then use a Katahajime Tazzmission to choke him out, so he feels what he wanted the puppies to feel!

This is off limits, PERIOD! I swear if he somehow finds a way to do it, I'll find him, and really hurt him

I'm fine with him strangling puppies for the sake of art if he's fine with me taking
a sledgehammer to his groin for the sake of art.

That is illegal in most states. You can argue it is art all you want, but it is still killing, and killing something that can not even defend it's self. If someone thinks that is art, they are extremely morbid. How could watch something die like that for the sake of art. Science kills animals to create medications and other things, that actually have some value. Killing an animal for art... well that seems pretty cruel. If the laws allow that, then why can't the artist strangle a human for the same reason? I know what people are gonna say, humans are better than animals etc, but killing is still killing. I do not see an art in that, I see a sick person who should probably be under the care of a doctor.

Well since I'm glad no one here is demented enough to agree with this guy, I will explain why I could possibly see it as art (although he might not be thinking this at all). It could represent man's perceived dominance over the animal kingdom and our exploitation of it but that idea seems a bit cliche and has been done in hundreds of other art pieces, there would be no reason he couldn't have a more tame performance to convey the same message.

So I think a broader theme he could be demonstrating is our cruelty towards the things we can control or the things that depend on us. There is a certain power in sadism and we see this all the time in manga and anime, it shows the evil all mankind is capable of not just isolated individuals. I remember in the series Elfen Lied there was a brutal scene where some elementary school children violently killed an innocent girl's puppy with a desk lamp right in front of her eyes. I remember I immediately wanted to kick all of their asses into the dirt until they were writhing in agony and my friend was actually happy they got bloodily murdered the next scene, but as I reflect on it is was amazing that we were willing to respond to cruelty with such excessive force, the same way I'm sure some people want to respond to this artist. I mean we might've dehumanized the kids since it was an anime and a lot of the people who are making threats aren't serious but at the same time there is a part of us that truly does want this vigilante, avenger type justice. If the artist's aim was to get us to recognize this he would've succeeded, although a well thought out paragraph could've yielded the same result.

Why can't you just DRAW a man strangling a puppy and not actually do it?

Do we really need to SHOOT people to make a war movie?

Sigh.

Obviously your not human because humans are understanding and caring. It is basic logic, it is what seperates us from beasts since all beasts fight for the most simple and stupid reasons. Sure humans fight as well but we still care about other living ceatures, most of us anyway, not the ones who don't care like yourself.

It's like that guy from Russia who threw the bucket of puppies into the river one by one.

except this guy did it for a reason.

They're not really similar honestly, I just don't get to tell the story of the guy trowing a bucket of puppies into the Russian River much.
