I saw this one in the NBD and though it was pretty interesting. It didn't really get any attention there, but here people have been arguing a good deal over the actual power of Suigetsu and how far his water intangibility, let's call it could actually take him in terms of a fight.
Location: Valley of the End Distance: 30 meters State of Mind: IC Knowledge: None Restrictions: None Keep in mind that the Valley of the End has a waterfall and water that Suigetsu could take advantage of at any time in the fight. I think that's just about it, then. GOGOGOGO

Only Suigetsu's long range water attacks are going to do him much good here, even then it's hard to imagine him breaking through Gaara's auto shield, ultimate defense sand (Which tanked Deidara's explosions) AND his sand armor.
Not to mention there is plenty of stone around for Gaara to make more sand with, but exactly how much damage a sand burial will do is debatable, wonder what happens if Suigetsu gets absorbed by something while in water form |

I think Gaara is to much for suigetsu even considering the Jutsu type disadvantage ( Water > Sand)

Actually, Earth affinity is super effective against Water affinity, so yeah. Suggestion gets stomped and crushed to death.

Indeed, it goes
Lightning > Earth > Water > Fire > Wind > Lightning |

Gaara's element is wind not earth.
Either way, Gaara buries Suigetsu in five bazillion tons of sand. Suigetsu eventually runs out of chakra and thusly dies. |

That's probably for how he moves the sand around, but considering he attacks with sand from the earth, then yeah.

Depends on where the fight starts.

Suigetsu wouldn't be able to get through Gaara's defense of sand.
That being said, Gaara would win. Unless Suigetsu has things that he hasn't shown yet.. Which even still, he probably couldn't defeat the Kazekage.

Apparently so.
![]() Sand can travel. And like CoP said, Suigetsu's chakra isn't unlimited

Wouldn't water turn sand into mushy..sand? Therefore making it weaker.....nevermind, logic doesn't work in the bg.

It would only make it slower. He should still be able to control it.
And Suigetsu would probably drown him before Gaara can really figure him out. But if Gaara can escape then it would end in a stalemate.

It would be mud, and it's not just sand. There's chakra.

The only reason Gaara's affinity is assumed to be wind is one, he's from the land of wind, and he used a wind style move whilst under the influence of Shukaku. His sand was never given an affinity, so it'd be fair to assume it's earth considering sand is made from worn down stone by strong wind/water. Also, considering Sasuke's chidori broke Gaara's defences easily during the chunin exam final and lightning > earth that is more evidence of it being earth element.

Well since this fight is in the Valley of End, and I rarely say this, Gaara gets stomped. He only has the sand from his gourd to defend against a giant water monster that was strong enough to hold off the Hachibi, and once Gaara's sand is turned to mud it will be harder to manipulate and too slow to stop Suigetsu's sword attacks and as much as I hate his character Suigetsu certainly isn't slow, if I had to gauge it I'd say he's about as weightless PTS Lee considering how he intercepted A's finishing blow and snuck up on C who's a jonin level opponent.

Quote:
Chidori breaking through Gaara's sand doesn't say ANYTHING about his chakra nature. His sand took A's kick easily. Chidori is known for its piercing properties anyway. Lightning Chakra>Earth Chakra Random Sand=/=Earth Chakra Not to mention you have to purposely use your nature chakra and train for it, otherwise Naruto's rasengan would have WRECKED Sasuke's chidori. Your natural chakra affinity is latent unless otherwise brought out.

Sand is stone and stone is earth, pretty simple if you ask me.

As of right now I'd say Gaara's sand should be assumed to be non-elemental, due to no one in the manga commenting on it being earth type. (Although there is circumstantial evidence that points to it being Earth type: chidori and the fact that sand is just a bunch of tiny rocks)
On the fight: It's at best a stalemate for Suigetsu. He doesn't have anything that can break through Gaara's defenses. Although it would be difficult for Gaara to harm Suigetsu. @JLI2infinity: I think you're forgetting that Gaara can fly. He's certainly not just going to sit there and take Suigetsu's attacks when he realizes he's at a disadvantage on the water. He'll fly to a different location and then use his gourd sand to grind up the rock in the surrounding area to create more sand.
