So wow... I played some ranked matches today. Never before in any game in my entire life have I taken such a beating. I would have considered myself way above average in UNS2 but in this game?
I went like 1-11 without even getting CLOSE to doing a bar of damage most times. Nothing worked. Everything I did was just stuffed and I was without subs and getting molested every match. I feel like I am missing something really fundamental but I don't get what it is. I mean what is the plan? Be the first to land an attack and then keep the pressure on non-stopped?

Here are a few: Spoiler:
I'm not gonna give any more The best way to learn how to play online is to play online. Playing the AI only makes you worse. Play people from the forums too or just friends. I'm getting the game for Xbox eventually, so if you still need help I can play you.

The first few battles I played, I lost. Mostly BS losses, but nontheless losses. I like facing people who actually play, and not spam.

I agree with this completely. I'm the kind of player who will attack first and will keep putting on the pressure until you run out of substitutions, and then I'll keep rushing you with combos and support until you die. I fight this way because I don't find it cheap. It's not like I link my combos twenty times or something ridiculous like that. I link my combos once or twice, if at all. On top of that, if you're out of substitutions, I will take that chance to get in as many hits as possible.
Anyway, this usually works against most people who don't mind their substitution gauge or just don't pay much attention, at all. Then, I'll come across a conscientious player; one who actually pays attention to the fight. They'll usually follow the tips that you provided. They would block immediately after substituting to negate my cancel, they'll take the hits until their substitutions fully recharge, etc. They're the ones that I can't beat so easily. |

For number 2 on your list, it is better to just chakra dash. That way if they c.dash it clashes instead of having your guard break. For number 3, this is wrong as well. Combo cancelling isn't about reflexes. It is about understanding the average players self control (generally hit twice and then c.dash seems to work). Therefore if you have 1 sub, and our opponent has 4, as long as you have full chakra you can make him waste all 4 of his subs and then you have the advantage. Another thing, chakra is still extremely important in this game, on par with sub bars definitely. Everything else Sora said was right.

It's better than blocking and getting caught in a u2 due to guard break right?

I am getting pretty frustrated with these mechanics. I played like 10 games last night and if I am a slower character
Raikage vs Neji for example Here is the situations that I ran into multiple times. I am getting comboed by Neji, I sub, and I block because this player loves to C.Dash for pressure. Problem is, when I block it gains me no advantage (either would C.Dashing) then neji just continued to spam attack button despite my block. What do I do? After I successfully block his re-dash I still am in the same spot to get beat down by his fast attacks. The only options I have are to dash back or continue to block. How do you gain the upper hand if you aren't the initial aggressor?

The new relevance of dashing and limit on substitutions has changed the gameplay dramatically. I'm still getting the hang of the new style.

I agree, this game feels completely different. The old handbooks needs to be thrown into the garbage. This reminds me of the Smash Brothers to Smash Brothers Melee switch.

The word best means something totally different now though.
Previously best just meant "more" as in "every time" But now best means smart. Since the actual act of subbing is no longer an issue of execution but decision making.

Is a sub into C.Dash the same speed as a Combo Cancel C.Dash?
It feels slower to me, although I could be wrong.

It is slower, but if you start the c.dash it will bounce.

Use supports like Kimimaro to gain the upper hand. It's a good way to waste their subs too. Or he could clash with another support. Kimimaro has saved me so many times like that. You can also follow up with an air combo once kimi knocks them up. And you can also combo while kimi is hitting them
To be honest Toast I usually chakra dash after I sub too now that I think about it. It depends on the character. If i use Gaara then I just attack after I sub. Sometimes the opponent gets caught in the Sand behind Gaara after they sub Literally every time I use Gaara online I always get off his NMC ougi. There was only one match that I didn't get it off and that's because I couldn't conserve my chakra and catch the kid at the same time. I even got it 3 times in a match once lmao
