Music: Rap Music Discussion: A Good Kid in a Mad City.

I was looking for a thread to talk about rap and I couldn't. So I made this to satisfy all my rap needs.

I pretty much know of every mainstream rapper and most underground. So if nobody else knows the rapper you're talking about I probably do. So yeah, let's discuss.

Same here. But once in a while I can hear that and be like oh shoot, that's a pretty nasty punchline. But if your music never has any substance in it, it pisses me off.

I personally like the old mixed in with the new. But only certain artists. I hate Lil Wayne and that whole young money crew. And people argue with me all the time when I tell them that I don't like biggie. But As far as old school rap goes, I like tupac, nas, old jay z, common, a tribe called quest and ummm....Method Man.

I can see why you wouldn't like Biggie, but still have to admit, he had one of the strongest flows in the entire history of rap.

Unfortunately, YMCMB is hugely popular today. Lil Wayne's last consecutive four albums sold around 900k to a 1mil in their first week.

How about the Roots or OutKast?

I actually don't like biggie only because of his voice and his flow. Everybody thinks I'm crazy for it cause they love his flow.

The roots? I know they're good cause I heard black thought on a couple songs and I hear their beats, but I just never got around to listening to them.

OutKast. I recently just got into them. As a kid I always heard them and liked them on the radio, but not until recently did I actually start looking more into it. Andre 3000 is a really lyrical rapper, contrary to the belief that most people think southern rappers can't rap.

Who do you like?

I like eminem, 50 cent, Wiz, most of Lil wayne's songs, and Tinie Tempah(got to love a British accent in rap). As for old school rap I don't hate any of them I just never really bothered to listen to a lot of their songs. I like Tupac's "Straight outta Compton".

Personally out of current artists I like Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, OLD wale(he sucks now), I used to like J. Cole but he's repetitive, Dom Kennedy, Currensy, the cool kids and chip tha ripper.

The Roots performing live are amazing, i like their sound too cus im a fiend for dope instrumentation (i was big into jazz b4 i got deep into hip hop).

Big Boi can rap for real too, his solo album was solid.

on another note, the general train of discussion in rap these days seems to be the strength of OFWGKTA and YMCMB, and how their respective sounds are influencing everybody. it annoys me n i want something new to get some talking time.

MMG is getting theirs too. Odd future will be dead in a matter of months due to tyler's buzz dying out and Earl Sweatshirt no longer being in the group. And to be honest other than those two, everybody in that group sucks.

I hope the rappers of the future don't have young money as their influence because if they do, rap will suck for a while.

i dont like tyler's music and earl isnt as good as everyone says. u ask me the most talent in odd future is syd tha kyd, left brain, and hodgy beats. but guys like kanye have already recognized them, so im not sure theyre going anywhere but up for now.

Have you ever hear molliwhopped by earl? It's nasty. And way better when he's not talking about rape. But he stopped that. I don't like tyler either. I did for like 3 months, but then I got over him and realized that he like... sucks.

His flow and lyrics are really on par for a 14 year old. Imagine how good he is now at 18. He released a song when he came back from somoa and he's like in his prime. He's releasing another new song soon.
