Sorry... I think we have already got too many Toby threads, but here we go...

ok, now (559) we know that the original Madara has died sometime in the past, so everyone is guessing who our good old Tobi is...

My hypothesis is that Madara has two partial clones.
His first clone was Zetsu, where the black Zetsu part is a clone of Madara (Yin) and the white Zetsu part is a clone of Hashirama Senju (Yang).
The second clone was Tobi. He is a complete clone of Madara (Yin), but like Yamato he got injected with DNA from Hashirama Senju (Yang).

It was the real Madara who controlled Yagura (third Mizukage) ... but it was Tobi that controlled the ninetales, when Naruto was born.

So, like Shadow Clone? Muu Clone? or Force Unleashed? I'm assuming the latter.

I'm agreeing with this as a possibility. But then again, I'm leaning towards my theory where Izuna is Tobi, along with kalmeast's theory.

I do not think that Tobi is a "ninjutsu clone", if he would be it, then it would be a Split, like Mū...
It would more likely be a like "Manda 2" compared to "Manda", where Kabuto made a "medical" enhanced clone... I do not think that Madara would be happy with a split, where the two halves would have lost half of their power.
Remember that Orochimaru/Kabuto has been cooperating with Akatski in the old days.

There are lots of ideas about who Tobi could be... no matter who is right, am I looking very much forward to hear the troth

I'm leaning towards my theory where Izuna is Tobi

After reading some of the most recent manga's i have come to, two Theories of who "Tobi" is, shown below:

(Main) Izuna Uchiha: Due to the fact that, it is said that Madara and Izuna had very similar abilities, which may also explain Tobi's shock, when shown the coffin most likey containing Madara. Also Izuna may have foreseen this outcome from a young age at which he may explain why he "gave" (uncertain) Madara his eyes. But you may ask how come Madara was unable to foresee soo far in to the future, well it could be due to rage caused by the overshadowing of the Uchiha Clan in the Leaf. But this may not be true as it is said that Izuna had already past away.

(Second)Obitio Uchiha: As it is said that in the most recent manga that Madara had unlock the Rinnegan shortly before his death, which may mean to unlock the Rinnegan, you have to be close to death, which is how we left Obitio. You my ask how did he survive, well it could be with the rinnegan his will to live somehow made him survive.

I Tobi is Obito, he would be in his forties like Kakashi, then how can you explain Tobi's wrinkled face when Konan nearly kills him and broke part of his mask?

Madara might have clones but I don't think the writer would just resort to such a simple solution to Tobi's identity, I mean that there should be an explanation that could show how cool and intelligent the real Madara is.

When you say that Madara controlled Yagura, that should be from the scene when Kisame is recruited by Madara but don't you actually think that after Madara dies and Tobi appears as an Akatsuki replaceant, Kisame would have his doubts about being used? He joined Madara because the exact words of Madara was that he trusted Kisame.

Anyway we can't rule out the hunches that Izuna might be Tobi or he might just be a clone but we all know that from the Edo Madara's words that Tobi is an acquaintance of Madara.
