Angry Who is making English subtitles for Naruto?

I don't know who makes subtile for Naruto but his translation really sucks. Maybe no one cares about translation as long as there are fightings going on but come on, ALL the awesome techniques are written in Japanese Romanised alphabets and no one understand what technique it is, apart from Japanese apparently. I strongly recommand Naruto tranlation team to translate the techniques literally cos the spells have brilliant names, such as the spell the Third used to seal Orichimaru's hands are literally called "the dead demon's complete seal" not just some simple alphabets!

Default Re: Who is making English subtitles for Naruto?

Why do you care? Translation isn't a perfect art, so you can't do it correctly. As long as it gets the main points of what they are saying across, then it's fine. And I have not seen one single episode where the technique name is not translated.

And funny how you just registered to moan about subtitles and how you generalise that everyone can't understand it. I can tell you that you are a minority here, and that a lot of people can understand it by simply using the Narutopedia Wiki, which has all the information and translation of techniques.

If you think the translations are poor, then just go find another anime site and watch it there, there's thousands of them.

Viz subs and dubs the show (well at least subs for this website), so actually the dub should be almost exactly what the subs are....modified a bit for lip sync.

So you can't hate on the dub accuracy without hating on Viz's sub, and this forum is Viz's official Naruto forum, so.... if you hate Viz you shouldn't be here in the first place >o>

Man, although i preffer dubbed Naruto. Still the Japanese Naruto has a better feeling to him and subs always come out before dubbed so if it comes to chose who's best. It's Sub all the way (mostly because i get to watch the thing sooner )

So you tell me what was the technique danzo used to make him temporally invincible? The one using all the eyes on his arm... I thought that one wasn't translated.

Wait, you're mad because some techniques are written in Romaji in the subtitles instead of their translations?

...Okay?

So you'd rather Sharingan be called Copy Wheel Eye? Yea, I'd definitely rather see Kakashi talk about how he overused his Copy Wheel Eye.

I assume things like Izanagi aren't translated because it's the name of a deity. Things like Sharingan because it's not something like 'water' that has a true equivalent in English, it's just a given name. Not to mention how stupid they'd sound.

Gotta love the sarcasm here, but it's completely true. That'd be hilarious:
"Kakashi: I must have overused my Copy Wheel Eye"
"Sakura, Naruto, et al.: What?"

It's just wrong to translate everything, some stuff is best kept untranslated (I'd really laugh if the Byakugan was suddenly being called White Eyes). And anyway, certain words have the translation in brackets at the top of the episode (eg Byakugan = White Eyes), incase your wondering what it is.

@Haochen: Yes, I know what it is, it's Izanagi. It even says that in the anime. You don't need it translated to work it out (and it would sound REALLY wrong if Izanagi was being called by the translated version)

Every jutsu I've seen translated by Viz was in no way Romanized but completely translated.

I suppose one of the few exceptions might be Asakujaku, but that sounds better than "Morning Peacock" even though the translation describes what the technique looks like.
