Shouldn't guests be able to post on the technical issues area only?

I would find it pointless to have to make an account in order to ask for help.

Like if one of the videos isnt loading, or they are having some sort of issue, couldn't there be a link directing them to a 'Technical issues' thread? From there even us users can help them if an Admin isnt available.

Because spambots would easily be able to abuse the feature and spam the forum ?

Besides, it only takes two minutes, and on a lot of forums, guest posting is disabled because of spambots, since the usual measures cannot be used.

Yeah but with the help of users, wouldnt we be able to just report them?
Our spam bot rates have seemed to decrease as well.

Well, why not? Spam bots isn't a legitimate reason not to. Sure, they can be annoying but they can also be banned easily & quickly. Surely that's why the mods are there, to keep the forum operating fully functionally.

In theory, yes. But what if it happens when no one is around but regular users? We would have to tolerate it until someone was available to deal with it.

If anything, give the 'guests' an email addy to post queries direct to those in charge...a generic one...For when videos don't work and such.

As it is, is it really bad if they have to make an account here? They may choose to stay...and then there's another person making threads and responding to threads..o.0

I am confident that it won't be made possible, chances are if someone is having a problem on the forums who isn't a member, either it's a problem with their computer/browser/internet connection or an existing member will be having the same problem.

On top of that, the last thing the mods/admins want is the possibility of random spammers posting ads/etc in the technical issues area with no way to ban or stop them them seeing as they are only guests and not members. Short of making guests posting impossible again.

Yeah, this would open up a new world of troublemakers. Those being troublemakers who look at the forum and don't sign up, or are spammers. If they are having issues, it only takes a few minutes to sign up and post.

Why would anyone help someone who doesn't have the time to sign up? Because if they didn't,chances are the problem wasn't important.

You can't ban spambots if they are not registered. If you allow guest posting, the whole forum where it is allowed will be filled with tons and tons of spam and no way to stop them, except delete the posts. Too much work and I agree with Rasen_Chidori and Maik as they get what I mean.

I've run a forum before, and guest posting = a ton of spam and nothing to stop it.

Yep, completely agree here. Guest posting is only good on General Discussion forums or sites where spamming is encouraged and I'm sure spamming is not encouraged here.

Indeed. I wouldn't have any idea who I'm helping if they weren't registered. For all I know, it could be some automated script.

It's also just less likely to happen on here than other forums. We already have to have certain rules in place to keep Viz lawfully safe.

Probably not, mainly because of the fact that reports won't actually do anything, and it could take hours to actually see a report that was put in by a user, because it's in your email, and unless you're using a smartphone, you're probably not checking your email every time you think you got one.

Because they can't edit their profiles. They're probably still signing up, but we pay them not attention because more times than not, all they do is edit their signature with a link and maybe a couple ads. It's not actually because they're decreasing. There are other factors, but that's the main one, basically.

Not to mention people can sign up and troll the tech issues section. Viz has a contact us thing, if you don't wanna sign up for the forum, so that you can email Viz representatives if you have an issue, suggestion, etc.

If you've ever run a forum, you would know that it totally sucks to have to moderate over 100 threads a day worth of spam. It's work, and it's the really annoying type of work. Trust me, it's totally a legit reason.

Unlikely. 99% of the time, an Admin, Quasi-Admins, SMod, or Mod is watching the forum. I know lately I've been lurking over the forums, though I plan to post more now again, and I'm just pointing out that's an unlikely situation, although, it could very well happen.
