Sasuke, as far as we know, is off in the deep end.
He's betrayed his teammates, taken his brother's eyes, and killed many in cold blood. However. I think there is something more than just that going on.
Surely, Sasuke was shaken upon discovering the truth behind Itachi, that he was a Martyr to the Leaf Village. While listening to Madara's story, Sasuke noted something. On page 174 of Volume 43 of Naruto, panels two and three. Look at them. Sasuke noticed that when Madara spoke of his brother "Izuna Uchiha", Madara gripped his own arm, revealing that it was a sore subject for Madara to talk of his own brother. Madara even went so far as to show emotion toward his own brother's death.

Sasuke, having lost someone important to him (that person being Itachi.) awoke his Mangekyo Sharingan.

Now take a look at Chapter 480 of Naruto. (Page 66 in Shonen Jump.)
Danzo has taken Sasuke's teammate Karin hostage.
Look at panels 4 and 5. They are of Sasuke "hesitating". Ultimately, Sasuke decides to stab through Karin to kill Danzo. But I think those panels were more of Sasuke waiting... watching. Looking for the perfect moment to strike, missing Karin's vital spot and hitting Danzo's. He even told Karin; "Don't move, Karin." And then struck. This is where we assume Sasuke has become entirely villainous. But it may not be that way exactly.

A Ninja of Sasuke's caliber would obviously be able to sense approaching Shinobi, correct? And on top of that, his Sharingan is able to see other people's chakra as colors.

I think he knew Sakura was in the area. I think he was waiting for her to show up, so she could heal Karin. And then, we see Sasuke attempt to kill Sakura.
If Sasuke could sense Sakura in the area, he could most certainly sense Kakashi's presence as well, could he not?

I totally agree with you till this point. Yes, its possible that Sasuke might have sensed Sakura's chakra and tried to miss Karin's vital point so that she stayed mendable. And even the chidori at that moment was probably a play to fool Kakashi. But I have a question, with one like Kakashi, is is possible for him not be able to distinguish the real intention to kill and the faked one? Maybe all he did was just to bring Kakashi out.

I think that Sasuke somehow fed the information on Madara's brother to Kabuto, so that Kabuto would be able to use it against Madara.

Can you explain more abt the relation between these 2 deductions of yours? What does Kabuto's showing up "out of nowhere" have to do with Sasuke's having Itachi's eyes? Plus, having known Kabuto's personality, imo, I think he wouldnt be affected by Orochimaru's death in the way that he could be manipulated. If you can make these point clear, the rest is awesome.

Sasuke intentionally missing Karin's vital spot is one of my favorite part of your deductions.

this got my attention very quickly in this whole theory. I think that this is very well thought out and could possibly happen.

The part in which Kabuto showed up out of nowhere happened just after Sasuke transplanted Itachi's eyes. This kinda played into the "Sasuke getting stronger" part of the theory.

wow never thought of it that way but had suspicions, mine was when sasuke actually waited to talk to naruto. and now that i think danzo told sasuke the ninjas do what itachi did all the time and they go unspoken. but your so right this is a sasuke itachi thing just roles reversed and think about it if sasuke wanted to kill sakura he could have he had her by the neck had a kunai as a ninja his caliber it should have taken him point 5 second to kill her, on top of that since sakura is dear to naruto that would make him seek revenge on him their it is the never ending cycle of hate.nice thread though i wanna see how the story turns out now.

To add to your theory I just watched Episode 89 of Naruto Shippuden & from 1:45 - 1:58 Kakashi says this "Can you sense it?... You're the one who's always before his eyes.. Inspiring him.. It's you who makes him strong. You know that, don't you Sasuke."

This could also be a hint that Sasuke is doing this for Naruto.
