May i also point out that brainstorming doesn't require anyone to vote?

What I'm looking for is feedback. Why is this a good idea? Could it work? Are there anything I can improve? etc.

This is an idea I'm thinking about, and I'm tossing it out there for other ideas or ways to improve my idea.

The only thing I worry here and not really worry but from what I have seen with member of the month that is.. is it dies quickly. So I dunno how to keep it up and going well. Frankly I would have to sit and think about that one. But I do like the idea. ^^

Well, I'm all for it, but I do not see a need for rep reqs. After all, this is about the best post of the month, not the best member. And quality posts should be honored regardless of poster.

In my opinion. Also, no problem I see in formulating a new council or at the very least a sub-committee of MotM. All good to me.

Good idea, but I think it would deem its own section.

It's definitely a good idea though, mainly because it's an incentive for users with low rep and high rep to make good posts. Competition is good with an incentive, and that's what people need in order to make good posts, or at least most of them.

It could definitely work if you had guidelines for HOW it's actually supposed to work, and certain limits, even though I could only think of a few. Probably something about the length of the post and a few other things.

The only thing that I see failing is that we'd have a bunch of posts about different things, so how do you scale the greatness of one post when it could be geared to something that's completely different?

In order to stop that, we could kinda put a category that each one has to fall into that month. Maybe one month it could be "informative" and another could be "helpful" or "kind" or "wise," just simple adjectives.

Other than that, it would be a good idea to run it like MotM since we know it works pretty well, right?

I think that giving out rep and custom titles should be fair enough, especially because out of thousands of posts made in a week, 1 post was actually chosen as "The Best Post." 1 in thousands. Pretty big number.

Another thing, if you're looking for something in specific, rather than the categories idea, each month, you'd probably need to specify what the post has to include or what it needs to be about, although I think that's a little too constrained.

This is a pretty active forum,to say the least and there are many many posts each day nevermind a whole month it will be difficult to find posts you wish to nominate and topics where they were because there's new threads constantly etc etc

I'm not sure how easy this would be to do but what about a button on each post? So that if you found a certain post worthy you could nominate it for post of the month
Could all go in to a database and then obviously the post with the highest number of votes wins
That way we could all voice our opinion(once) on which post is best and we wouldn't have spammers doing it for every post in a thread and being generaly annoying

But the more I think about it the more complicated it sounds, I'm more of an idea guy I have no idea how this would be set up other than what I've said(obviously welcome to change)

How would context posts be dealt with? As in, how would posts that are only great because of what they respond to get submitted? This is fixed if posts are submitted through links instead of quoting, but then that falls under organization.

How would links be organized? Would the posts be linked in words such as "Aurega's Post #1" or "Toma RNK's Post #2", or would they be classified by title, such as "Re: Post of the month?".

Also, would there be some sort of * marker for posts that exceed a certain length or posts that have been nominated multiple times?

Would anything special be done to the winning post itself where it resides, such as being given some sort of "Seal of Approval" at the bottom in a mod edit?

Would there be a limit to the number of nominated posts any person can have?

Would there be qualifications set in place for the posts nominated or the owners of said posts?

Would the council of people presiding over this have a leader in order to set straight any disagreements and create tie-breakers only in the event that the group itself fails?

Would the council be a permanent group, or could it work by randomly selecting 5-9 forumers to vote on the posts they like best each month?

If permanent, how would the members of said council be selected, and how many would there be?

Have I run out of legitimate questions to ask about this idea?

Length doesn't always equal quality. We might also have a requirement that says a post need to be nominated x amount of times before it will be considered. Especially if there are way too many posts that are nominated.

We would have a wall of honor with links to all previous winners. I guess a prize badge could also be added, but remember others can simply add the same seal to their posts.

Currently unknown. Council should be determined once this idea is finalized. I'm sure we have enough people anyways.

I'm aware. The suggestion was to keep people from accidentally stumbling on to walls of text as opposed to saying "these posts are the best cause they're long". The MotM identifies nominees who have a larger number of nominations.

True, but then the badges on each post could be linked to the list of winners, and most people can't edit posts beside their own, so stealing a badge runs same the risk of making yourself look bad.

I think one's too steep. It's true that people can simply run off and nominate the first post they like at all, without giving consideration, but in the course of several weeks there can be multiple high-quality posts made. I'd say we should allow three nominations per month, since there'd most likely be at least that many good posts, and particularly so if it's divided into categories.

As for that, I'm still not sure what kind of categories this thing would have, or whether they should be included.

Disagreed. As long as this is the idea, the means of deciding a winner is just as important as anything else. I don't care about who's on it, but if there's going to be any sort of council or decision-maker, the details should be worked out along with everything else as part of the creative process. Unless you just meant deciding who's on it. Anyways, I think there should be one person who picks the winning post in the event of a tie-breaker or disagreement, but at the same time this person won't be able to vote unless such a situation arises.

I think a permanent group will probably work best as well, since experience can add to decision-making, but I do think that we should be open to the idea of letting normal members vote in certain situations.

If we have a tie-breaker, the number of normal members should be even. If not, odd. At least 3, or else the council (or voters; Really might as well be called voters since I don't foresee the duties going far beyond that) will lose credibility.

I'll say it again; we give out custom avatar privileges out to winners of the MoTM contest. Custom avatar privileges, and more. Derpsayers got nothing on that.

Taking that into consideration, along with the fact that a large group of individuals posses custom titles already, such a reward is not nearly as overboard as you probably assume.

Then again, this is not the final decision. That is merely my two cents.

What happens if the same person keeps winning it over and over again. Maybe their should be a limit as to how many times a person can win. There would have to be a way to give everyone a chance at being the best post of the month. In fairness to everyone, some kind of limit or black-out period would have to be in place, in which, if someone wins, they have to wait a certain amount of time, before they can be nominated again.

Why should there be a limit of the amount of times someone wins? I'd rather have a winner over and over again that makes consistently good posts over having to make a half-assed nomination from someone who makes crappy posts. It's not like MotM where you should restrict the amount of consecutive wins, because it's a more general scope of all of the posts that the one user's making.

Everyone has a fair enough chance to win, if they make good enough posts. That's the good thing about this, too. It'll be an incentive for people to work hard and make contributory posts. Or any sort of good post. Plus, out of tens of thousands of posts made each month, you honestly think that one person is going to win over and over again? That's kind of absurd, and even if that DID happen, I'd probably be questioning personal bias among the council, considering the vast field of posts.

People will gravitate to the popular people ....some of the not so popular will be overlooked most likely, even though they make good posts. In MOTM, their is a peiod where a winner could not be nominated again. This is better since it gives all a true chance at the honor or it, versus a relative few.
