well wat he did was the right thing to do it was either that or war because then the whole village wouldve probobaly died as well as for sasuke and itachi cared for his brother so he slaughterd the clan saving the village from mere desrtuction so basically hes sort of a hero who really deserves to become hokage if he told sasuke the truth sooner

Then they would have never met sasuke for the first time when he went to Orochimaru. and didn't he save someone in that maze battle thing, I can't remeber. Also some missions may have failed because he was usaly the lookout with his bird and mice. He saved Sakura in the maze battle thing too.
