New PM Popup doesn't appear

Hey

I have the tickbox for the forum to make a popup box appear when I receive a new PM, but it doesn't actually show up. I assume that the code was removed or something? I used to receive it when I first joined, but don't anymore.

I noticed that too. I do it and then it doesn't work and then I look back and it's unchecked and I make sure to save my settings.

There's an option that allows it.

It was removed a while back. Why? I don't know. I thought removing it was kind of dumb.

Toma said it annoyed him and the admins cuz they get like 30 PMs a day.

There's a setting in your profile that enables this:
UserCP -> Edit Options -> Show New Private Message Notification Pop-up

Strange, seems weird to remove it, as now I don't really notice I have a new PM, unless I actually look at the Memberinfo block.

Then why couldn't they just uncheck that option instead of taking it away from the rest of us.

I agree, it seems strange that it should be removed from all users, when it's a configurable preference so if someone is being spammed 30 PM's a day, they can disable it for themselves.

It stays checked after I Save Changes, but it never actually pop ups a message.

I use an alternative like Msn Messenger Live, and know instantly when I recieve private messages, when a subscribed thread has a latest post or friend notifications.

@HN45: Yeah, the setting is there, but doesn't do anything as the code related to it was removed from the vB templates.

I don't particularly want to wake up in the morning to find 100's of emails from the forums about threads I've subscribed to. Not sure how that relates to a New PM Popup not appearing.

I don't check my email's though and only just for the Viz forums. Every once in awhile though, I go in there and cleanup a bit. I put other email's for different sites in other folders. It's just an alternative.

AFAIK, vBulletin forums don't send you a message if you've received a PM unless you've set the option for that to happen.

I don't check my emails often, and am more likely to notice a PM Popup as Chrome would direct me straight to the tab I have for these forums if I received one

I didn't remove it from everyone because it acts like a flashing strobe light every time I log into the forum, though it did. I did it to get rid of unnecessary queries when the servers were rocky, and kept it off because the majority of users I polled went to their inbox whether or not it went off to make sure no one had sent them anything anyway.

Even a fraction of a second off your mile time can matter if you're a runner running thousands of them a day, ya know?

True. But as I pointed out above, users can easily turn off the popup if they receive multitudes of PM's a day.

I don't frequent these forums and likely miss important PM's from users. Also, aren't the servers more stable now?
