In combat against a large quantity of vehicles, few weapons in the world was as effective as the Alexshinian MG53. A heavy auto cannon with armor-piercing firepower that used several muzzles to gain a rate comparable to a fully automatic weapon. Every shot was of 20mm caliber and contained explosive materials that was more than powerful enough to penetrate the armor of common WWII tanks, such as the M2 Sherman.
Even during WWII, it was still effective, which was proven during the battle of Fort Alexander in 1944. A quad of three MG53s had destroyed an US armored division of 20 tanks.
Large and heavy, the MG53 was almost immobile on the battlefield. Despite attached to two large wheels, it should not be moved during battles as it cannot fire simultaneous with movement nor change its firing direction at an instant. Because of this great immobility, the MG53s were ofte deployed in long lines in an environment that reduced the risk of being outflanked, such as between cliff passages or inside bunkers.
During WWI, when it was first used, there was no armored vehicles and the MG53 was only good because of the firepower - a shot would most likely penetrate the hit soldier's body and pierce through the entire formation, killing dozens of enemies with one bullet. On impact with impenetrable objects, such as bunker walls or heavy armor, it would explode and cause collateral damage to anything within a 1.4 meter radius. Though inaccurate, it is powerful and effective even during WWII.
The German 18mm field gun attempted to be a counter of the Alexshinian Imperial Army's MG53, but failed as it couldn't possibly win a contest of either rate nor firepower. The only weakness of the MG53 was its poor mobility. The reload time was fast and the range further than most other auto cannons of the time.
