Chapter 11: The Family Renunion

Driving was always one of those things that helped me cope with life. I don't know how that happens, but whenever I'm behind the wheel of a car my mind goes blank and I just focus on driving. It's like when someone just listens to music. Whatever the artist is; whether it's Daughtry, Eminem, or even The Beatles, there's always that one band that you listen to and the world makes sense. Even if the world is in chaos.
But driving this time not only brought relief to me, but also the sudden realization that no matter what happens tonight someone will not be able to come back from this alive. It's the feeling that a person gets when they see a new movie and they know there are more characters to be introduced, but you know that one of those new characters won't see the ending. The only question is, who the hell are the other unknown characters?
When I finally arrive at Will's Park and I notice the time is 10:45. It's alright pitch dark, with a few mindless streetlamps flickering on and off across the park. I get out of my car and make sure everything is in order. I check to see the Desert Eagle in the front of my pants and my Smith & Weston behind my pants.
After I check this out, I hear a little shuffle behind me. I quickly turn around with my Desert Eagle out in front of me and there's Rachel timidly walking towards me. I lower my gun and try to ask her what's happening now and before I know it there's Pride right behind her. I raise my gun again and Pride says:

"Now if you're as smart as you're supposed to be....you would at least lower your gun. Or else I'll stick this hunting knife in Rachel's liver."

I look at Pride and then look into Rachel's eyes. I could only tell that she is as confused as me and that she didn't do any of this to hurt me. After realizing this, I lower my gun and Pride goes on.

"Now that's a good Johnny-boy. Very good. Now I know you're wondering what you're doing here.....along with this wench, tonight. So let me go into another story for you.
I have been planning this moment for a very long time Johnny-boy. I have been planning this moment for a very long time......yet I'll be honest with how convenient that both of my master plans would become one."

With this I see something is more strange than before. I look at him and say:

"Look Pride, I don't know what is going on with you. But whatever it is it needs to stop tonight."
"Oh all of this will stop tonight Johnny-boy. All of this will end tonight, as I kill this untrusted little girl and when I kill the man that not only took this girl......but the man who is also related to me."

After Pride says this I'm utterly shocked at what has been said. I look at him with pure amazement and laugh.

"What do you find so funny? The fact that you'll die cause of me? Or how I just stated we're related?"
"From those two questions, both Pride. I knew you were crazy, but to say we're related takes everything to another level."
"How did I know you would say all of that? Or how did I know your parents are dead?"
"Maybe because you just looked up my living situation through the internet? Or just did your homework and saw the newspaper that covered my parents' death? There are so many ways you could have found out about that."
"That is true, yet I already knew your parents a long time ago. They were Ross and Anna Chang. Your father was an mechanical engineer at Coke and your mother was a secretary for the school system. Your father was great friends with Drew Kim through high school and college and your mother knew Wanda Kim through the school system since they went to the same college as well. Your parents met at a college party at Emory University. Your mom and Mrs. Kim were invited by a mutual friend that your father and Mr. Kim had at Emory. The list goes on with what I know about your family. Shall I go on?"

After all this has been said, I couldn't help but feel like balling up. All this being known by this dude is not right. How would he know this? How else would he know this without being a family member? With all these questions running through my head I hear Pride going on with something else:

"Now that we got the issue of me knowing a lot about your family, let me finish this off with story that will send you into misery."

I can't help but look up from my daise and see that smile that Pride wears. The smile that sends fear to the very bone of anyone looking at it.

"I just love how you wonder such things Johnny-boy. How you're wondering right now how all this is possible. How in this world I know about you, your family, and Rachel. Now I said earlier that I have been planning all this for a long time. And how I'm now surprised that two plans have now become one. Well you already know about my revenge with Rachel here, but you are also the second plan, Did you know that? So it's not only because you are Rachel's boyfriend........but because of something more. I also said we were family. That is true. Want to know why? It's actually simple really. You see the Desert Eagle pistol you have in your hands? What name is engraved on the side of it?"

I bring up the side of the pistol in the light and see the engraving "Chang" on the side.

"Simple, it says 'Chang' on the side. That's my name so it would have to be my father's pistol."
"Ah but that's where you're wrong Johnny-boy. Your father never served in the Army. He didn't have any affiliation with the Army what-so-ever. That would be my father's pistol right there."

Once this is said, I can't help but feel like the world around me just vanished and I'm back into that very world I was in when Pride talked to me the first night we met in the park.

"But.....but...that's impossible! Your last name isn't Pride!!"
"Whoever said it was legally Pride? I went by that last name so that no one would know who my family was. To prevent kids at school from giving me a hard time about who my parents were. The drunken father and the crack addict mother. I went by Pride cause it was only my pride alone that I had in this world to move on. But my last name.......my real last name......is Chang."

I fall on my knees when I hear this. How could this be possible? How am I related to this monster?

"The one thing you aught to know before this is all over is how hard it was to find your family, cause lets face it. Your father just dropped ties with the family after college. Now that's still a mystery to me, but the story of how we are family starts after my father came back from the service and was the alcoholic that he was. When I was about to get into middle school, I remember coming back from school seeing the house in more of a mess than usual and I just see this man come out with the box I knew my father kept his gun in. As he was walking out my father was ranting about something with money and I remember your father saying:

"You won't get any money from me you decieving piece of crap! But the one thing I will do for you is take care of your son until you and your wife are clean and can support yourselves."

"My father vehemently said no to your father's proposition. Thinking that your father was challenging his parenting......but even with all of this happening, the thing that made me realize who your dad was when he said:

"Well I'm sorry to hear you say that Edwin........but as this boy's uncle you know I can at least provide for him more than you can right now. I will do that to help out, but until you say yes, I won't take him."

"I looked at your father and couldn't say anything, but the look I had just said 'Please take me away from this place!!! Please just do it! I don't want to be here anymore!!!' But even though your father saw me look this way, he just turned around and took the box with him. I was guessing by him taking the gun he was going to protect me a little bit, but I completely ignored that and asked myself why didn't he do the right thing? Why didn't he try to do something to save me? I became furious and promised myself that I would find him and hurt his family someday. But I didn't have to do that since the man died in a car crash. So all that was left was you and that baby sister of yours. I believe her name is Evee. I wonder what I should do to her when I'm done with you."

I couldn't take it anymore. I couldn't take the lies that this monster was making. How he knew my family supposedly and just talked about how my parents deserved such deaths. I couldn't control my anger anymore and I just looked up and started to charge at my enemy. I knew Rachel was still in his grasps, but at the moment I knew I had to kill this monster myself. As soon as I charged at Pride, all I could see was this blinding light and my mind going blank.

Well here's chapter 11 and I strongly apologize for how late this chapter is. School for me has been hectic and I have been playing catch-up. But screw school for the moment and I hope you enjoyed chapter 11 in the series. Thank you for your patience.

OOO is well worth the wait great chapter and plot twist, but school is important too it can get hectic at times.

Chapter 12: Hope Comes Knocking.....

The one thing that I hate about life in general is how trouble always seems to knock twice. As if "Trouble" itself has to visit me in the same manner that I recieved it. I just never understood why I had this happen to me. Especially with the situation at hand. And another thing that I hate most is how you find yourself in the same place every now and then. I only say this cause after the blinding light came over me, I just remember waking up in the hospital again. It almost felt like the same room I was in earlier that week, but it just turned out to be another, ordinary hospital room. Just with the aura of death or bad news though.
Before I could think about what the hell happened, I recieve this glomp tackle that sent my body through pain.

"OH MY GAWD!!! OH MY GAWD I THOUGHT I LOST MY OTHER SOOOOOON!!!!! OH MY GOODNESS!!! DON'T YOU EVER DO THAT AGAIN JOHN!!! DO YOU HEAR?!?!?! PLEASE DON'T YOU EVER PUT ME THROUGH THAT EVER AGAIN!!!! OH MY GOODNESS!!!!"

I automatically knew that it was none other than Mrs. Kim glomp tackling me. When I recover from the surprised tackle, I look around the room to see everyone I know in the small hospital room they stuff all their patients in. Struggling to pull Mrs. Kim off of me was both Mr. Kim and Freddy. In the corner rocking in a chair was Mrs. Ellis with Evee in her arms. At the foot of the bed was the Mr. and Mrs. Duffy relieved to see me awake. And to my rght side was Rachel in one piece. Before I could ask what was happening again, Freddy couldn't help but interject:

"Now why the hell did you do that?!?! You know I would have gone with you to check everything out!!! Making sure nothing bad happened to you!!!! You put all of us through a scare man!!!"
"DON'T YELL AT JOHN LIKE THAT FREDDY!!!!! HE JUST WOKE UP!!!!!"

As Mrs. Kim says this, she just drop kicks Freddy as usual and instead of playing dead....Freddy jumps back up with a huge bump on his head staring at me as if I was the one who hit him.

"Well?! Explain yourself!!!!"
"I would love to explain what was going on in my head, but what the hell happened last night?"
"Arguably the best bust in Alpharetta history John. I forgot why you missed it though."
"Now what you mean son is how all of us busted the infamous Pride. It amazed even me how we were able to do it to be honest with you."
"Why do you say that Mr. Kim?"
"Now that is a story within itself good sir. I think it began with Mrs. Ellis calling our house to make sure you made it safely for your supposed 'Study Time' with Freddy over here. I told her that there was nothing like that to my knowledge but I knew something was up when Mrs. Ellis said you dropped off Evee and told her all that bull-"
"Honey watch the language."
"I apologize dear, but in essence told Mrs. Ellis all those lies. The next thing I knew I get a knock on my door as soon as I hear Mrs. Ellis tell me that something should be happened."
"And that's when we come in John. Right when we started to get worried with where Rachel was since she didn't come back from school we looked in her room to make sure that she didn't sneak in like she usually does and-"
"And we found this note on her bed that told us everything that was happening. Oh my goodness I was crying so hard I thought I was going to freak out Harold. But in the note it said that the best person to talk with is Freddy's family since they were close to you. So we came over and demanded to know what was happening."
"And of course I walk in from work and see my husband, the freaking best lawyer in the southeast, arguing about who's fault it was in this whole thing instead of just going to the park where you told us earlier."
"And so after that charade of 'Who's fault was Who?' we all got in one car and drove all the way to Will's Park as soon as we could. When we got close to the parking lot, we could already see you were talking with Pride for a long time and could see that he said something that made you scared. Almost as if he told you something that was really secretive and dark. But we could clearly see that he had Rachel with a knife behind her back, so we decided to park the car right behind him. As we crept up, we made sure that everyone was around you all to make sure that when Mrs. Duffy hit the high beams on the car, Pride wouldn't get away. When everyone was in place, Mrs. Duffy turned on the high beams and we tried making as much noise as possible. It was probably the worst idea since it blinded you and not Pride himself. Before we could at least make Pride give up, he just seemed to know that he lost. So in a last minute effort to maybe do something....he threw his knife at you John. When we got Pride restrained and when Mrs. Duffy called the police, I looked over and saw how the knife was in your chest. I thought you were gone again since there was so much blood. But we got the ambulance to come over as soon as possible and the doctor said that the knife went inside your chest about 4 inches and almost hit your heart and left lung. He said that it was a miracle that you are alive."

I look around and see how everyone is looking at me. It's the look you get when you haven't seen family in what seems like a life time. It's the look that doesn't need any verbal ties with it. The look that just says, "I love you." People have said they have seen this look before but no one has truly seen this unless they have a loving family to lean on. Feeling such a heart felt moment, I try to say something.....but I hear this voice that I haven't heard in what feels like forever.

"B-but the more important thing now is that we're all together and that you're alive right now John."

I slowly turn towards Rachel and she quickly turns away while blushing. I could tell that she went through a lot and that she hadn't slept at all. I just got the feeling that she was next to me through out the whole night. I hold her hand and quietly reply:

"That is very true, but the only reason why I'm alright is because I have a family like you guys. You are the reason why I'm alive cause God knows I wouldn't be here without y'all."

I look around again and see that I wouldn't be alone ever again. I just didn't have Evee anymore.......cause our family just got bigger.

So that is the latest chapter. Chapter 12!!! I apologize for it being late but life for me has been troublesome. I hope you enjoy it and who knows what happens next!!! XD

DON'T YOU EVER DO THAT AGAIN JOHN!!! DO YOU HEAR?!?!?! PLEASE DON'T YOU EVER PUT ME THROUGH THAT EVER AGAIN!!!! OH MY GOODNESS!!!!" I automatically knew that it was none other than Mrs. Kim glomp tackling me. When I recover from the surprised tackle, I look around the room to see everyone I know in the small hospital room they stuff all their patients in. Struggling to pull Mrs. Kim off of me was both Mr. Kim and Freddy. In the corner rocking in a chair was Mrs. Ellis with Evee in her arms. At the foot of the bed was the Mr. and Mrs. Duffy relieved to see me awake. And to my rght side was Rachel in one piece. Before I could ask what was happening again, Freddy couldn't help but interject: "Now why the hell did you do that?!?! You know I would have gone with you to check everything out!!! Making sure nothing bad happened to you!!!! You put all of us through a scare man!!!" "DON'T YELL AT JOHN LIKE THAT FREDDY!!!!! HE JUST WOKE UP!!!!!" As Mrs. Kim says this, she just drop kicks Freddy as usual and instead of playing dead....Freddy jumps back up with a huge bump on his head staring at me as if I was the one who hit him. "Well?! Explain yourself!!!!" "I would love to explain what was going on in my head, but what the hell happened last night?" "Arguably the best bust in Alpharetta history John. I forgot why you missed it though." "Now what you mean son is how all of us busted the infamous Pride. It amazed even me how we were able to do it to be honest with you." "Why do you say that Mr. Kim?" "Now that is a story within itself good sir. I think it began with Mrs. Ellis calling our house to make sure you made it safely for your supposed 'Study Time' with Freddy over here. I told her that there was nothing like that to my knowledge but I knew something was up when Mrs. Ellis said you dropped off Evee and told her all that bull-" "Honey watch the language." "I apologize dear, but in essence told Mrs. Ellis all those lies. The next thing I knew I get a knock on my door as soon as I hear Mrs. Ellis tell me that something should be happened." "And that's when we come in John. Right when we started to get worried with where Rachel was since she didn't come back from school we looked in her room to make sure that she didn't sneak in like she usually does and-" "And we found this note on her bed that told us everything that was happening. Oh my goodness I was crying so hard I thought I was going to freak out Harold. But in the note it said that the best person to talk with is Freddy's family since they were close to you. So we came over and demanded to know what was happening." "And of course I walk in from work and see my husband, the freaking best lawyer in the southeast, arguing about who's fault it was in this whole thing instead of just going to the park where you told us earlier." "And so after that charade of 'Who's fault was Who?' we all got in one car and drove all the way to Will's Park as soon as we could. When we got close to the parking lot, we could already see you were talking with Pride for a long time and could see that he said something that made you scared. Almost as if he told you something that was really secretive and dark. But we could clearly see that he had Rachel with a knife behind her back, so we decided to park the car right behind him. As we crept up, we made sure that everyone was around you all to make sure that when Mrs. Duffy hit the high beams on the car, Pride wouldn't get away. When everyone was in place, Mrs. Duffy turned on the high beams and we tried making as much noise as possible. It was probably the worst idea since it blinded you and not Pride himself. Before we could at least make Pride give up, he just seemed to know that he lost. So in a last minute effort to maybe do something....he threw his knife at you John. When we got Pride restrained and when Mrs. Duffy called the police, I looked over and saw how the knife was in your chest. I thought you were gone again since there was so much blood. But we got the ambulance to come over as soon as possible and the doctor said that the knife went inside your chest about 4 inches and almost hit your heart and left lung. He said that it was a miracle that you are alive." I look around and see how everyone is looking at me. It's the look you get when you haven't seen family in what seems like a life time. It's the look that doesn't need any verbal ties with it. The look that just says, "I love you." People have said they have seen this look before but no one has truly seen this unless they have a loving family to lean on. Feeling such a heart felt moment, I try to say something.....but I hear this voice that I haven't heard in what feels like forever. "B-but the more important thing now is that we're all together and that you're alive right now John." I slowly turn towards Rachel and she quickly turns away while blushing. I could tell that she went through a lot and that she hadn't slept at all. I just got the feeling that she was next to me through out the whole night. I hold her hand and quietly reply: "That is very true, but the only reason why I'm alright is because I have a family like you guys. You are the reason why I'm alive cause God knows I wouldn't be here without y'all." I look around again and see that I wouldn't be alone ever again. I just didn't have Evee anymore.......cause our family just got bigger. So that is the latest chapter. Chapter 12!!! I apologize for it being late but life for me has been troublesome.
