Controversial - Very. Mugetsu was able to heavily injure Aizen but only to the point Aizen retracted back to his other forms. Notice not back to his Shinigami state. So Mugetsu wasn't even close to killing Aizen. The only reason Ichigo lived was because of Prep Kisuke.

Also the sword thing. This one is up in the air because Ichigo said Aizen may have wanted his sword and powers regress. So we can't confirm that Aizen was so injured that his sword and powers decline so much until we hear it from him.

Final Form Aizen vs. FGT Ichigo = Winner Final Form Aizen given Ichigo best move couldn't injure Aizen enough to bring him back to his Shinigami state.

- Blitzed Aizen on 2 seperate occasions
- Blocked a sword strike from Aizen with his bare hand
- Effortlessly defeated a fully chanted level 90 Hado by Butterfly Aizen
- Blocked Aizen's most powerful known attack of the series (Cero-like energy blast) and sustained only moderate wounds on one arm
- Stated to have destroyed a mountain (Although likely not the size of an actual mountain, it was much larger than anything Aizen's destroyed)

FGT Ichigo probably could've won without Mugetsu. Ichigo still could've won if he'd dealt the finishing blow in the final seconds of FGT, but it was more plot than anything that Aizen wasn't dead by the time Ichigo lost his powers.

Your first 3 and last points in the first paragraph was used on Butterfly Aizen. The only thing Ichigo has over Final Form Aizen is that he tanked a cero like blast from ONE of the hollow-snake things on Final Form Aizen. If Aizen would of used more than one Ichigo tanking it like that wouldn't have happened.

FGT was owning until Aizen matched him in Final Form. Mugetsu FGT's strongest attack wasn't enough to kill or let alone injure Aizen enough that his forms would have gone away.

Actually, if you'd look at later in that same chapter, Aizen gathers energy from every single one of the hollow-heads on his body and forms a ring of energy around Ichigo while he has Ichigo restrained. IIRC, Ichigo then easily breaks free and disperses the energy, or does whatever to it to make it go away. That's Aizen using all of them. Ichigo still had the advantage against Aizen's final form.

Ripping open Aizen's back and causing him to nearly die is more of an indication of injury than causing Aizen's forms to receed, which normal damage couldn't do anyways. Aizen merely lost appearance from the damage done by Mugetsu. He still had all his power, as far as we know. According to Urahara, he lost his power because the Hogyoku no longer saw him as its master.

And again, in the last few seconds of FGT, Ichigo could've finished off Aizen before he healed and that would've been the end of it.
