To add a little to my previous wall:
All rep systems truly are is a way for a site to gain more hits and use from it's members. Using the materialistic tendencies of people to coax them into spending more time on the forum to get a higher amount of rep. Rep which is then used as a stepping stone on the social and status ladder (even if this isn't the point of the rep system, this is what it eventually becomes), thus the appeal to gain more of it and thus increased traffic on the site. Most major forums don't have rep systems like these because it's nothing other than basic common sense that these kind of things happen with them. They also don't need such a system to draw in traffic, as the site generates it on it's own.

Of course it's no surprise to me that the rep system has become essentially corrupted. Given the elitist set-up the forums has, this and all of the other problems we are having were bound to happen, only someone with no common sense or foresight would of been blind to such an eventual outcome. Or someone that wanted it to happen. But that's a different debate for another time when the forum can actually handle the repercussions.

Indeed it was, and it will keep happening unless drastic measures are taken, at which point I have to wonder why even bother having the system anymore.

Nor do I really, personal rep will always be better than green blocks to me. I'm just explaining the situation. It's irritating seeing people ignore the problem because they are a part of it, yet complain about it.

Jonesy, if there were more blocks, and more titles, then those within the friendship circles and getting repped by people with 35 rep power every day would have their rep skyrocket all the way to the last one pretty fast, while those with small rep would have even a MORE difficult time trying to catch up.

Disabling an inherently flawed system which is based on an idealized concept is the only way to fix it. But of course that won't happen. Too many people like rep, and rep increases traffic for the site.

I really don't care one way or the other, just explaining the situation as it is, since no one else is apparently willing to do so.
