Yes! I definetly think so! Kakashi care's about him and doesn't want to see him get hurt. He want's to protect his student from the nine-tail's and do everything in his power to get rid of it if he could.

kakshi was roughly 12-13 when naruto was born do you really think you entrust such a responsbility to a child at that age?
and anyway they had jiraya what more did they need

I don't think they did ask Kakashi because they didn't know that they were going to die the same day of Naruto's birth. and Kakashi was still a kid at the time.

Kakashi did do it just not to the extent that they would've wanted

he knew he had to protect Naruto but he protected all of squad 7

and he didnt favor sasuke he just related more and knew sasuke had sharingan like him so sasuke would be easier to teach one on one (During chunin exams)

I don't think that they asked kakashi to care for naruto, because i don't think that they anticipated their deaths. Furthermore, kakashi was young (teen).
Also in the original series when he sees where naruto lives it seems like this is the first time he is seeing it. If he was supposed to have cared for naruto, why had he never seen his room.
