Shikamaru smart?

When Asuma died, team 10 decided to get revenge for their teacher. Before they left the village, Tsunade stops them. Shikamaru then tells Tsunade that he has a plan to beat Kakuzu and Hidan and that he has no intention of dying. Tsunade forbid them from leaving because of the 4 person per team thing. Kakashi then voluntered to be in their team so that he could watch over them. Was it really possible for Shikamaru, Ino and Choji to beat the "immortal duo" by themselves? In that case, did Kakashi joining the team really hindered Shikamaru's first plan?

no it wouldnt have worked since no matter how smart he was he didnt know about hidans hearts. so ino and choji would have died fighting all of kazukus hearts while shikamaru pssibly kills hidan

When Tsunade asked Shikamaru if his doing this for revenge, he replaied by saying no, and that his just setting things right. Do you think thats true or did he secretly want revenge?

now that i think about it, shikamaru was kinda selfish. if what you say is true, he would have killed ino and choji attempting to kill the immortal duo

shikamaru is sort of like at a cross roads of good ninja naruto and bad ninja danzo
he wanted to set things right
but really he wanted revenge and was actually risking ino and choujis life

Intelligence only gets you so far. Team 10's teamwork is almost flawless, but they're techniques simply aren't that offensive. They couldn't have beaten Hidan and Kakuzu by themselves. No way. Ino and Choji would've been killed quickly, thus ruining Shikamarus plan. He would've died soon after. They probably could've killed Hidan on his own though.

Even though Shikamaru had a plan, he still was up against uncertainty, he never learnt everything from the first encounter with Hidan and Kakuzu. Especially the secret behind how, Kakuzu was so strong and using various abilities. Though I am sure he thoroughly analyzed Hidan, considering that was Shikamaru's main target. He said he wanted to set things right, though as far as I am concerned that is the same thing as revenge, though a better way of putting it. Though even know he said he had a plan, his strategy was still based on ucertainty, since he never knew Kakuzu's abilities and the fact he had four different hearts. So considering this, I am sure that Shikamaru and his Squad would have struggle with that battle, and after Shikamaru dealt with Hidan, he would have had to go back and help out Ino and Choji indefinately. So without Kakashi I fear they would have had a very hard time with that Duo, so Kakashi going with them was fairly helpful to them.

I asked because i thought Shikamaru was kinda acting funny at that time. He isnt the time of person to under estimate his enemy yet he was so willing to fight them. I figured Shikimaru would realize that Choji and Ino really cant do anything against them so why did he risk their lives.. What he planned was just not smart at all.

If it went like before, minus Kakashi, Ino and Choji would be dead. Kakuza would of simply impaled them with threads, so Kakashi made a world of difference to team 10.

i think shikamaru's plan would have worked even without kakashi. but kakashi helped out so it was all good....

i highly doubt that .. in the fight ino and choji were basically useless.. so i think kakashi was more then just a help

I think Ino and Choji were the ones that asked Shikamaru to lead them. I think Shikamaru knew if he didn't go Ino and Choji would go and get killed. If Kakashi didn't go I think they would have killed Hidan but Kakuzu would have killed them.

Most people here would agree that shikamaru won because of plot.
