True Musical Talent?

Now that music can be edited to sound a certain way or for the artist's voice to sound a certain way, do you think the music industry has lost its credibility for finding "true" musical talent. Or, do you think the artist you listen to who alters their voice digitally isn't a music artist anymore? Discuss.

Sometimes it is not the sound that makes music good, it is the lyrics and meaning behind them. True music have meaning.

Has the music industry lost it's creditability? I'll say no, but i barely have an opinion in music. But for the music industry to produce true talent...well somewhat yes. "True" musical art is deteriorating, it's all about profit, appearance or looks and pop-culture, in other words the being "bad" image they created for attention. Over shadowing true talent.

Success in this world in the entertainment industry has changed. Im not suggesting that there are no talent or ture artist or true good music, but i'm merely suggesting the fact that they are becoming less apparent to the world of today. "less apparent" I'm not giving an opinion to which degree, as i don't actually care very much about music.

This is really just a matter of opinion. It can't be stated for a fact that it has or hasn't lost credibility. There are some artists that have incredible musical talent, like Paramore or Lady Gaga. However, each are very different. Lady Gaga is an Electronic/Dance/Pop artist, and she edits her music to sound electronic, but despite that, she's a classically trained pianist and amazing vocalist. Paramore, on the other hand, doesn't edit Hayley Williams' voice at all, and she arguably has one of, if not the, greatest singing voice in music right now. Just because music is edited doesn't mean it's not truly good. It just means that the person uses computers to improve what they themselves lack to make the music the best that it can be.

However, I think that if all you use is computers, and don't use anything but, that it's debatable. Kanye West is a good lyricist, sure, but when it comes to music, all he uses is computers. I'd sooner call his work poetry with a beat before I called it music.

I understand what you both are saying and you're both right to a point. Lady Gaga isn't a good example because she is a good vocalist and has musical talent when it comes to instruments. She was accepted into the best musical school at the age of 14. That's true musical talent right there.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is for the artists that do a "live" concert and don't even sound like they do on a "edited" song, do you think they shouldn't be considered artists? Justin Bieber for example, when he did a live show he just sounded not good.

Performance =/= Music.

If you suck at performing, that doesn't mean you're a bad musician. Not necessarily, anyway. If someone writes music, and what's to record it with their voice, but doesn't sing well, I don't see why they shouldn't be able to just adjust their voice, I guess. If you're just a horrible singer and use other people's music, then you're not really an artist in my opinion.

I can understand that. I guess a live performance gone "wrong" can be forgiven more easily than an Asheley Simpson moment, right? XDDD

Well, when you mention who sings good live, first person that comes to mind is Adam Lambert. He is AMAZING live. Theres lazers, dancers, its fun. He also gets amazing reviews. Oh, also he aces the songs, and its really obvious he doesn't lipsynch. I think American Idol struck gold by finding him.

Edit: Even if you dont like screamo, you have to admit, it'd probably be hard to scream like that for several minutes. Lady gaga is good. The singer from paramore is pretty good too. Same with Bill kaulitz, from tokio hotel.

But it could be one of those 'artists' can't sing at all LMAO.
