I suppose that makes sense since gold is a limited resource. The less gold
there is out there for the taking the greater the value of the gold you have. Whereas with cash there is never a scarcity issue. If there's too little money in circulation than more money is printed increasing inflation and weakening the value of the dollar. If inflation is greater than the interest rates at the bank, then putting money in the bank may be pointless.

The duel would be over before we even begin. I fail at economics.

I wasn't being serious.Another reason to perfer a bank is because the government protects your money up to 250 thousand dollars.

The main point is the security you get. As long as the United states exists, you have that money secured. A mattress can burn,get wet or be stolen etc. xD
