Madara "stole" Naruto because he wanted the Kyuubi. And Kushina's seal was broke too, so he was stealing/saving Naruto

We dont know whos behind the mask. its still stating the question "Whos behind the mask" if it was madara im sure they'd just say it. I bet that mask is passed down and like every owners knowledge is passed down to another person. including jutsus etc. some forbidden jutsu the uchiha clan only knows about.

That would be interesting. It'd also make sense that he'd know because his wife had spoken to her that day. It would also vindicate the claim that Itachi was a double spy.Good guess!

Man that chapter was so amazing!! I'm so glad Kishi is finally giving us all the info about what really happened 16 yrs ago. I'm surprised too that Madara would even know when the seal would be weak...he must have somehow infiltrated the Eddy village and gotten some info on their sealing techniques...the other option would be someone close to the Hokage level (Anbu or counselors) telling him about the previous Jinchurki's troubles at child birth.

I love that Kushina's story can only help strengthen Naruto's optimism even though he had a tough childhood and even though he's the Kyuubi's Jinchuriki. That being said Kushina and her predecessor did have it a little easier if you think Hashirama vs Madara happened away from the village and there were no casualties that we know of...on the other hand the Kyuubi attack 16 yrs ago was so close to the village and so many died it was expected that the next Jinchuriki wouldn't be "welcomed" or "accepted".

It was sad to see Sasuke's mom and Sasuke as a baby and Kushina expecting them to become friends and then to see the actual reality so far...

What can I say about Minato? He was awesome..supporting her all the way, then acting like a regular first-time dad and as Hokage all at the same time. Now that I think about it their story could even be a little bit more tragic than the Uchiha massacre IMO. They're both going to die on the same day they become parents....

I'm pretty sure it wasn't Itachi...he hadn't even entered the academy at the time.....Kakashi is a better choice and I've always felt that Kakashi did something important that night...otherwise howcome we never see him in the flashbacks from that night? Minato was his sensei so I'm sure somehow after Madara takes the Kyuubi Kakashi gets involved to help Minato.

The masked Man is Madara because
  1. Madara got control of the Kyuubi
  2. Kushina said it was Madara
  3. The Kyuubi said that Madara was the only one with strong enough eye's to control the Kyuubi
  4. It's not like you pass the kyuubi around like a pet.
  5. Madara's ANBU mask matches the one that he has all ready been shown
any so forth

3. Some one could be using madara's eyes.

Well Kushina and Minato have both referred to Madara as the "masked one" in Akatsuki or just the masked guy...so them not using his name all the time doesn't necessarily mean it's not Madara.

That's actually a good theory but at the time the Uchiha were still trusted (for the most part), they hadn't been moved to that secluded area in the village and just because you're an Uchiha doesn't mean you'll be able to control the Kyuubi. Madara is/was special just like Hashirama.

It is plausible that if it's Sasuke's dad behind the mask that the Uchiha weren't completely innocent that night and they they were working for/with Madara.

Either that or do we know Danzou's whereabouts at that precise time? because it could be him working with Madara....(I'm sure MrsSticky would like that )

I don't know. it'd be funny if its the thirds father. Sasukes father died though.

@ 3littlepigs, i was thinking it could be danzo as well.
It could even be shisui- he can control stuff. It could be his eyes that controlled the nine tails.(note he was not dead at this time. Madara coulda ordered him to get killed so he could take the eyes to actually control the nine tails at a later date.)

  1. Madara was the only one capable of control the Kyuubi, the Kyuubi said it him self. And it's not like any one else could. You need a special type of chakra and the EMS. Guess what Madara is the only one that fits the profile.

1) Yeah but who? the thing is the bijuus can't be tamed/controlled and the only way is to be "special" like Hashirama and Madara or be a Jinchuriki (and a good one at that)

3) Again who? if the real Madara did die in that battle with Hashirama then someone had to have been watching the battle very closely to actually pint point the place where Madara's boy lay....either that or Hashirama didn't check properly whether or not he was really dead and then he just left his enemy's body there (which would be stupid knowing Madara's powers and that anyone could just take his eyes)

4) I've already given up on that mask pattern...I'd just like to kind of think it varies with Kishi's mood
