Disable Rep

Could this be implemented? I think I already made this thread before...

Like someone with a certain amount of rep could use it...

The mods can already disable the rep of certain users if they feel the need to

Do you mean turn of your rep display, or opt out of the rep system?

I originally meant turn off your rep display, like you could only give neutral rep or "post comments." But if opting out is possible then that would be okay too I guess.

If rep is disable you can't rep period :3
The rep icon vanishes so you can't even give out neutral rep

The option of disabling your rep display can be granted.

Right now we can remove peoples ability to give rep by forcing their rep power to 0 forever.

There is no present way to "opt out" of the rep system, though if an admin wanted they could disable your rep power and hide your rep score to accomplish the same, but the user couldn't do it themself.

It's very unlikely we'd let people freely 'opt out' of the reputation system themselves, since the desire only seems to show up when users start getting repped down, in most cases deservedly. It tends to be them having a negative response to the negative feedback red and down rep creates.

Everyone in bad standing on the site would instantly 'opt out' of having that fact stapled to every post and profile page they have on the site, which defeats alot of the point of it. It'd turn into a pointlessly bright sided system from then on out, in an "EVERYONE's GREAT AND SPECIAL! And if you're not, we'll keep it on the down low, no matter how much you suck" kind of way.

With negative rep, people can carry their shame with them everywhere they go. What's not to like about that? Absolutely, nothing.

Well what I meant was that you could disable it with a certain amount of rep...

As Toma said, in regards to some users that know someone with access to the rep system enough to make changes to it, there are cases were they requested their rep be turned off, and sometimes it was granted.

Not speaking to any of the users that have done it but to the act itself of having your own rep turned off, I've yet to see a case where it wasn't used as an "I'm too cool for rep" badge, despite any explanations given (prior to, during or preceding the change being made). Though In all of their cases, I don't think a single one had bad, or low, rep at the time.
