Default How not to use reputation.
Ok here is a day in the life of someone with a little power. You log in, and have about 50 PM's from people complaining about rep abuse. You scan through them and one stands out. So you decide to investigate. After a little hunting you stumble onto this:




I'd like to point out a few "do's and don'ts" about rep.

1: DO leave a reason when you uprep or downrep.
2: DO sign your name when downrepping, uprepping is more optional.
3: DO NOT downrep someone and pretend to be someone else.
4: DO NOT up or down rep people just so you can up/down rep someone again.

The user above failed in all of these simple recommendations.

As a result, I left him alone with the rep eating monster for a few minutes and he can no longer use reputation for a period of between 3 months and forever.

This is the stuff we crack down on. Use the rep system, don't be a dink.

This punishment was issued without warning because some things don't need warning like "warning do not use on genitals" on a chainsaw.

Stuff like this makes me want to look around and find more people, and none of us want that, so play nice.

This is good, however, I don't believe that a poster should always leave their name when they downrep. Some users will automatically retaliate by downrepping the person in question, and it would just lead to a chain of abuse.

Can Herr SRhyse and Frau Muffintop please remove my staff "powers"? The Mod Rules are a joke and everybody knows it lol I don't follow that last rule well enough, and I don't want to endanger the Communist Rule of the People's Republic of NDF. Thanks.

I agree with this. People should not down rep people and leaving a comment saying profanity.

If you ask me, I think Admins should have the ability to know who down reps who and see if there's any profanity or if the reason for the down repping is stupid and then correct it, but that's just me.

It would be an all time job, but maybe something can be set up where if certain words were to "pop" in repping then the rep wouldn't count regardless if it were down or up...like our posts whenever we type certain words.
