I'm sorry, Itachi is a good guy? (spoilers)

from what i recall lets move a few thousand years before itachi and the clan

uchiha ancestor and senju ancestor
the uchiha believed in hatred
and the senju believed in peace or somthing like that so technically thats why the uchiha were so hard headed and the uchiha and senju ancestors were rivals so of course the uchiha were going to take over the village why? because the senju were always the hokages and because their ancestors were like that of course the nows are

The whole Uchihas have hatred and the Senju have peace is a belief held by Madara. I am still holding out for Sasuke turning good at the end so I do not subscribe to that philosophy. And even if someone did, does that mean that just because some outdated, thousand year old fairy tale justifies murdering an entire clan? If all Uchihas are just full of hatred and evil, why did Itachi spare Sasuke? And for that matter, if all Uchiha are supposed to be evil, why wasn't Itachi? He was sure pacifistic and "nice."

Thanks! I'm relatively new to the series (only about 2 or 3 months) and I guess the fangirls set the Itachi standard too high for me with all of their "R.I.P. Itachi the Hero" stuff. But I was serious when I said that I REALLY like Itachi's character! I don't want to think I'm anti- Itachi!

the character itachi was made so much better with the realization that he wanted peace so badly he'd kill his own flesh and blood to get it.

I really want to know more about the disease he was afflicted with though

Wanted peace so badly he'd kill? Isn't fighting for peace the same as screwing for abstinence?

OK, how is he a good guy? I never saw him trying to reason with his clan. Like maybe if he had gone to one of their clan meetings, he could've spoken up against the coup, no? Not to mention that despite him being a pacifist, he was pretty easily convinced to just slaughter his whole family minus Sasuke. Even the mom. And the mom wasn't even that bad! Then the whole murdering Shisui thing. He did that before the massacre. He did that willingly, of his own accord, just to get the Mangekyou.
If he'd spoken up and protested the coup, he'd be seen as a traitor and be tailed after in everything he did. Don't forget that he was suspected by most of clan members since he joined ANBU.
Mikoto was also a jounin and it was very likelihood of her to have taken part in, or at least support the coup.
I understand that he's not a completely ruthless villain, and it did show how conflicted he was because of what he did. But can someone explain to me what all of this Itachi= hero stuff is about?
Its about someone who accepts to live a tearful and misunderstood life, receiving the of opposite of what he deserves in order to bring a little more peace to the world.

Again, Itachi didn't kill Shisui or anyone for his own sake. The whole incident was Shisui's own will, he entrusted his eye 2 Itachi then killed himself.

Itachi was a hero sure.

But only to Konoha.

Itachi is really the tragic hero of Konoha. The pain he had to go through to ensure the peace of Konoha is huge, probably as huge as Naruto's burden of being Kurama's jinchuriki.

Shisui is another Uchiha like Itachi who was free from the Curse of Hatred. Shisui wholeheartedly gave his life for Konoha and so that Itachi could carry out his final mission.

The Uchiha Clan's involvement in Kurama's attack on Konoha is pretty much shrouded in mystery. To say that Mikoto was "innocent" is an understatement. She disappeared with Fugaku and the rest of the clan when Kurama attacked. If I was a Konoha shinobi, I would be pretty curios as to where they were and why they were not helping in defending Konoha

itachi did what he did because he favored the peace of the village above anything else. in his mind, a peaceful village meant a "safe" sasuke but his plan obviously did not work out the way he wanted. In the world of shinobi, taking lives is just another common day in one's life. What's the big deal if he killed to preserve peace? it happens in the real world, just watch the news.
