Gen V Pokemon Games Speculation Thread

UPDATE: The new names have been revealed! They are

Pokemon White and Pokemon Black

According to some Pokemon fansites, the next issue of CoroCoro Magazine is going to reveal the new Gen V games on the 15th when it comes out (Though leaks apparently get out around the 11th). Which also means subsequent magazines will give more and more info on the new games.


What do you guys think the names will be? The Villainous teams' name(s) and goal? I know the latter won't be revealed until a few months from now, but still.


I assume the names will follow the tradition of being named after Metals/Gems. For some reason I expect one name to be Topaz or something. Maybe we'll get a Purple or Orange colored game this time.
Or they may go for something different, like just a color such as the Gen I games or something entirely different like named after Elements.

As for the evil group, I think it'll be hard for Game Freak to top Team Galactic. Or maybe there won't even be an evil group, but it just wouldn't be the same...

dunno much about Gen.5, but I sure would like they had 2 regions to explore instead of one, ala G/S/C/HG/SS

I wish they'd make a game where every single region was visitable and you could choose any region to start it and go to others with your strong teams after you've beaten a region. This idea actually inspired this rule in my RP thread.



But, what I want more than anything...

I would DIE if they made games where you could play as a Grunt of the evil teams and work your way up through the ranks, all while learning more information on each of the group's members and such. You'd have a rival in the team that would also be trying to get higher ranks, but for Team Magma/Aqua, you'd have 2 rivals, one in your group and one in the opposing group. That would be AWESOME!

Really, it'd be nice if we got more info on the groups and their members. Cyrus I think currently has the most background info, if not tied with Giovanni. But I want to learn about everyone else too.

that would rock too, but I can see that more as a side game than a main game.........unless they made some kind of deal where the main character were to temporarily join a evil team, to collect info so he/she can stop it

also, I sure hope, as it was rumored on Gen. 4, that they let Pokemon have more moves, I think for now, up to 6 moves would be ok

I would only expect it to be a side-game, even though it relates heavily to the main games.


That would just make battles both easier and harder. A lot of Pokemon would be abled to get moves to cover every type. Like Starmie would be abled to have Thunderbolt, Surf, Psychic, Ice Beam, Power Gem, and Shadow Ball. That's 12 types it'd have an advantage over!

yeah, would change battles a lot, but I do think eventually it'll have to be made

obviously sooner or later we'll get new types too..........

and maybe even Pokemon with 3 types instead of 2............

I saw two of the pokemon for the next games, they don't look too good.

I think HeartGold and SoulSilver will be the best ones for DS... But I can't say that until I beat the game.

Ah, so they went back to normal colors. Maybe it's to celebrate as an anniversary for Pokemon having made it to 5 Generations, all starting with Red & Green?

I can't wait to see the starters and the Evil Team. I bet they won't be as good as Team Galactic though, in plot too.

yeah, Team Galactic was pretty darn awesome, tough act to follow plot wise.....

I really hope they have different type of starters this time, I read once that for D/P/Pt, they wanted to do that (they would have been Dark, Psychic & I don't remember the third one lol)

and maybe now it's time to expand the Shadow type introduced in the Gamecube games, and have new types too

Dark, Psychic, and ? wouldn't really work, since Psychic can't hurt Dark at all, and that would be breaking the tradition a little. Or at least that's what more of the slightly bigger fans claim.

The third type would most likely be Fighting since Psychic>Fighting>Dark. Unless it was Bug, which wouldn't work since Bug> Dark&Psychic. Ghost be the same too.

Ice Rock and Ground is the only combo I can think of ATM that would work (With only Rock not being very effective against Ground), since Ice>Ground, Ground>Rock, and Rock>Ice. But nobody wants that for starters :\
