Question How exactly are you supposed to say this?

Okay so there's this girl at my school who made this huge fuss over how to pronounce a certain character's name from Naruto. The character was Deidara, and she swears up and down that I pronounced it wrong. I pronounced it wrong twice and she flipped out at me, called me a weeboo (whatever that means), and held a grudge for like a month (I didn't really care since I don't really even like this girl, but I digress)

But now I'm curious, How do you really pronouce Deidara's name?

Deidara (Day-dar-ah) in some of the english dubs they pronounce it (Dee-dar-ah) but it's actually the first one, but it doesn't really matter

You may want to look into some translation websites on the internet through Google, often they will pronounce the words for you. But any way it's pronounced Deh E Da Rah.
The De makes the Deh sound, the romanji for 'i' sounds like the letter 'e' in English the da sounds like 'dah' and the ra makes the 'rah' sound. http://www.angelfire.com/anime4/minako134/romaji1.htm This website should provide a sufficient guide for your future pronunciation needs. Also a 'weeaboo' is a insult that came from the internet which generally means a westerner pretending to be Japanese, you should ignore such silly and rude comments.

That's what I said.
but she kept telling me that it was "Die-dar-a"
and she started to really get on my nerves during the aforementioned grudge

Pay no mind to it I say, unless she had factual evidence to support her claim which she clearly did not, she should not critique others foreign language abilities. With that being said you now clearly understand the proper way to pronounce it, and with that hold a certain proper bearing on future discussion of the similar.

But jerks will be jerks, you've just got to research and overcome.

I know this is wrong, but me and my friends pronounce it "Da-dre-uh". It should be pronounced more like "De-da-ruh". Or something. I'm not good at typing pronounceations.

Actually... I thought that it was pronounced "Dee-dar-uh". I heard Sasori say it in a sub so that was how they pronounced it in the raw, japanese version.

In the Japanese anime it's pronounced "day-dar-uh". If she held a grudge against you for a month over the pronunciation of a fictional characters name, I think she's a little obsessed with it.

...I know several people have already answered this, but hopefully my opinion can still help if someone's unsure. I think you pronounce it "Day-da-rah." ...Well, actually "Day-da-lah." The As are always pronounced like "aw" in Japanese...I think. And "ei" is always pronounced like the A in "make"...I think...and Rs always sound like Ls, but I don't pronounce the Rs like that, so...

"Die-da-rah" makes me think of a pirate...o.o
