I find it sad that it was necessary for you to post this. This made me realize just how tough, or rather annoying, your job can (and must) be at times. You have my sympathy.

Since this is my first time viewing this thread, I'll add a few other things as well:

First, I notice that most mods, temp. mods and admins have a title that announces, in some way, that they're a mod, temp. mod, or an admin. Honestly, looking for the title would be a good place to start when attempting to tell apart a normal user and a mod.

Secondly, while I have never actually witnesses someone pretending to be a mod, I have witnessed people pretending to be other people. Users pretending to be George Bush, Michael Jackson (which wouldn't work out so well now) or some other famous person are seriously cracked. Pretending to be something or someone you're not won't work for long, because "truth will out", as it were.

(And yes, I have seen someone on this site pretending to be George Bush. The Michael Jackson pretender was from another forum.)
