Ino has a great surveillance and infiltration jutsu - Mind Transfer. She can heal too, and it's not on Sakura's level, but it's still pretty good. That makes Ino a good support type, but she's not the type for close combat.

I think those are skills. And Ino's ability would match a rl ninja.

Genin level? I don't think so. If she was a Genin level ninja, how could she possibly have passed the Chunin exams fairly? Obviously she has some skill, but Kishimoto hasn't shown it so far in Shippuden, just like with most of the other Konoha 11.

The only issue is that Naruto is shounen material so the female characters almost always take the supporting roles, even the main girls. I sometimes question if Kishimoto even likes his female characters, he did say once that he never intended to even have a "heroine." Do you honestly think a worthless character could make it to chuunin? I think not, those exams were difficult.

well i personally think she's worthless because she's a terrible ninja. i mean she lasted like approximately 11 seconds against kakuza and hidan. they didn't even have to do anything. she just like tried to attack and knocked herself out. it was so pathetic. and her healing abilities are borderline elementary. nothing special. and to be honest, i don't know how she became a chunin. but i honestly can't picture her winning a battle unless she fought tenten or something--in which case they would both just spontaneously combust from patheticism. and no it's not obvious that she has some skill. no offense, but it sounds like you're just going on assumptions. like 'she's a chunin so she must be skilled.' well--has it ever occurred to you that maybe kishi just made it that way so he didn't have to spend time on ino's background story because he didn't want to tortue his audience? it's a possibility.

"Filler character"? I'm guessing that you don't know what a "filler character" is. Those are characters like Matsuri and Shion. Ino may not be a main character, but she's a pivotal supporting character. She is constantly linked to the plot, she just needs more screentime. Like most of the kunoichi.

I honestly have no opinion on her. She's a good ninja, Kishi probably just doesn't have time to make more character developments without having them ruin the whole story. The rest of the K8 aren't shown because they're side characters, meaning they don't have a lot of screentime. That's exactly what Ino is; a side supporting character.

She has potential, we just don't see her enough for her to show it.

well yeah of course shikamaru would prevent her from doing the mind transfer jutsu. because unlike ino, shikamaru has a brain and he knows that it would be as effective as trying to defeat kakuzu with jelly beans. and i disagree that all of team 10 was outclassed. shikamaru defeated hidan on his own. and i'm assuming her skills are mediocre because she's a mediocre person and a less than mediocre ninja. chakra control takes a long time? well it's not like she has anything else to do.

and the reason i'm talking about ino instead of choji and tenten and other unsaid ninjas is because this thread is ABOUT ino. give me a thread about choji and i'll say the same thing. however, i wouldn't count kiba, neji, shino, and lee in the same group as ino, choji, and tenten. the disparity in skills is astronomical...

Ino is selfish and a bit egoistic, but she's still passionate and cares about her teammates and fellow ninja. She's worked hard and is more annoying than hateful. Sure, she's not the strongest kunoichi and cares about looks and appearances, falls for cute/hot guys, but at least she's not evil and only teases Sakura in jest (almost). They don't actually HATE each other.

If Ino didn't have a brain, she wouldn't be alive -_- Besides, they could've made a trap with Mind Transfer. It just didn't go well with the plan Shikamaru already had in mind. Ino's also shown she can be clever at times, like with the chakra hair trap she used on Sakura. It's not Shikamaru-level thinking, but then again Shika outclasses many characters in terms of intelligence.

Shika beat Hidan, but he had tons of prep time, knowledge of Hidan's abilities, and plot on his side, so it wasn't a fair fight. If it was fair, Hidan and Kakuzu would stomp any of the Team 10 members - Asuma, Choji, Ino, and Shikamaru.

You assume her skills are mediocre, but you have no proof for it, only using biased assumptions. And Ino has work at the flower shop too, so she has to balance that along with being a ninja, a medical one at that.

Then how did she become such a smart ninja.CHUNiN. Shikamaru only got all the fighting scenes and things going on because Masashi-Sama wanted to give the Shikamaru fans some time with their charater.
And no one knows if her skills are mediocre or not. Because she hasn't had much screen time and Masashi-Sama needs to give her more screen time.

i assume ino's skills are mediocre because she hasn't proved otherwise. i mean, where's your proof that her skills aren't elementary? and yeah my assumptions are biased but so are yours. you seem to like ino, whereas i don't particularly care for her--so naturally, our inclinations affect our opinons of her. i perceive her as glass half empty and you seem to see her as a glass that's half full.

and no the same does not go for kiba, neji, and shino because we've seen them fight relatively tough opponents. we've seen their jutsus and their improvement over time whereas ino seems to be perpetually stagnant. other than gaining some basic medical ninja skills, what has she done?
