I got some pizza today and of course they have that little tip amount on the receipt they give you. This is after the "delivery charge" of course. It just got me to think, why should I tip someone who is just doing their job?
I think it is a dumb idea. Waiters sometimes get paid less then minimum wage because it's a given that they will be tipped. But what if they are not tipped at all? They can't rely on people to give tips all the time. It should be regular pay at all times. That way they are bringing steady income in. I know there's people out there that want to tip for whatever reason they deem necessary (maybe they are rich), those are the people who ruin it for everyone else. If people want to tip, then that money should be going to the company and distributed out evenly to employees for Christmas bonus or whatever the occasion. What do you think?

Well when I worked at Pizza Hut as a teenager, I got paid 2.15 an hr and was expected to make the rest in tips. But by law if you do not make enough in tips to equal minimum wage amounts they have to pay it to you. And if that starts happening enough they will fire your butt.
Honestly I have always said, I would rather pay an extra .50 per menu item to cover full pay for the servers then be expected to add their salary to the end of my bill. While we are on this rant. Let me give you this little gem. I went out with my girlfriends the other night to a little Bistro for dinner. There were 8 of us. You know what that means. Gratuity was automatically added to my bill. A full $7 just for me alone. 20%. Good grief! Multiply that by 8. That man made $56 off our one table alone. This was not because we all thought he was awesome and thought he deserved it (don't get me wrong he was great) but because we had hit their magic number that automatically forces you to pay gratuity. Call me cheap but I think the tipping thing is getting a little ridiculous. |
