Official Reputation Guidelines

This is the official guideline on reputation as quoted by Viz administrator SRhyse. Be aware that going against these guidelines may result in a infraction or the inability to give rep. This thread is official by SRhyse's approval of officialness.

Part of what makes the reputation system work is that it's subjective to the users as to why they rep. The main rules I suppose are what NOT to do, which are growing and being clarified as we go-

Don't farm rep
Don't be like 'narutox1billion is gaaaay sux!!1!' If you really think narutox1billion is 'gaaaay' or 'sux' based on something they posted, do them the favor of pointing out why in the rep comment. Be as specific as you can.
Don't down rep for reasons that are dumb, which the above example largely represents.
Try not to up rep for dumb reasons as well
No Rep trading
No false accusations

When we moderate this stuff, it'll be based on the comment, the users it was between, and the specific post it was on. So if someone didn't leave a comment but it was a generally positive or good post in some manner, it'd fly. We'd mainly be watching when things become an issue, like in the farming and flaming scenarios, though the latter would be a little more laxed because it's so much more subjective.

While it will ideally fit with the reputation system thread, I am against it because,
1. It will become hidden and harder to find.
2. Because it's new, people will not know this was added to the reputation system thread and will likely not read it.
3. Something this important is deserving of it's own thread because of the controversy surrounding it (at least for now).

This is the official rep guidelines. This thread isn't about how I think rep guidelines should work, this is straight from the admins. This section of the forums was made in order to provide answers to people not to count how many "guides" there were. Though some guides are unnecessary, this is not one of them.

Well, what I was thinking since you said new members won't have a chance to read this guideline of yours which I totally agree. But, you can post a link on your sig to lead it to the reputation system thread once you update it there. And then post a notice on the reputation system thread saying that you have updated a guide line into the thread.

But its up to you. I am just giving you a suggestion.

I personally think we should sticky this one. If we add it to any other guide then new/veterans won't read it, as the veterans won't just read guides when they'r bored or something so. xD And the new would skip due to its length.

I think this topic deserves its own thread, and we should sticky this as this topic is currently very big.

I'l sticky it if I get the permission to.
