Kunai, B'cause it can be used for two reasons, one it can be used as a melee weapon, and a projectile.

i have multiple of both in real life. I like throwing suriken better is always sticks and i can throw them uber straight.

as far as kunia better close up but not for throwing, i just havent train enough with them though.

Kunai, It can be used for all types of situations and ranges of combat.
It also provides both defense and offense something that the shuriken can't do.

Kuni, usualy, shuriken are used as a distraction. You can defend, attack, and use kuni as a distraction.

In real life the shuriken can also be used as a short range blade, the kunai as someone else already said is hard to throw with if you dont have the right kind ,in the anime saskue used a really big one and used it to trap people, but then agian the kunai can have paper bombs soooo I have to say........ummmm...lets say... in the real world shuriken in anime kunai,

It all depends on what you would want to do with them.
Shruiken in the time of real ninja were used mainly as a destraction, or were poisoned to immbolize or kill an enemy. Often times a ninja would throw a shruiken as a diversion, and esape.
Kunai on the other hand are mor elike knives, yes, they can be thrown but they wouldn't reall be used in escaping, because they are bigger and more noticable and harder to conceal.
It all depends on what you would do with the weapon.
