What has happened to Gaara?

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but I was going back and watching all the Naruto Shippuden episodes. I finished the part when Gaara was killed when the One-Tails was extracted from his body, then he was revived by Chiyo. My question is when Gaara was revived without the One-Tails inside of him what happens to his powers? Can he still do the same things as before; will the sand still protect him as the ultimate defense? I wanted to get others opinions on this.

he stiil has his sand powers but there not as powerful as before as seen in the kage summit arc

Ok Thank you I have not read any of the anime so they only way for me to catch up on whats is new in the Naruto world is by going off what is said in these forums and off the shows.

This seems like a bit of a slip up on Kishi's part. I was actually thinking about this a few days ago.

Fact: He is still able to use his ultimate defense.

But, origanally it was that the ultimate defense was something that the Shukaku was able to use to defend him, regardless of his own free will. With the Shukaku gone (logic as we've been presented it) it would make sense that that ability would also be gone. Though, Garra can still minipulate sand, would that make his sand manipulation ability a kekkei genkai? If it's not then Kishi backed himself into a corner with this one. Even if it was, it really would counter what was originally put out there, but it would be something.

I thought that he couldn't manipulate sand now that the Shukaku was drained.

he can still control sand, just cant use shukakus powers anymore.

Kishi sorta messed up with Gaara after he got Sukaku taken out of him. He still has his powers and Kishi never clarified if Gaara is able to sleep for once in his life. Oh well, it's not that huge of a deal, and I still love Gaara!

I love Gaara as well but like others I thought once Sukaku was taken out of him the ultimate defense would be gone, I can still see him having the ability to manipulate sand. It just blows my mind that the sand he used before would still protect him without him controling it is all, I too thought it was due to the one-tails inside him the untimate defense we there.
