Friends Stopped Liking An Anime Because It Got Popular?

Have any of you ever been stuck in this scenario? You and your group of friends all really like a certain anime. Y'all read the manga, watch the anime, talk about it frequently, debate about it, etc. The anime isn't very popular yet, or maybe y'all just read the manga and watch the episodes in Japanese because it isn't dubbed yet. Then one day it becomes popular. Everyone in the anime community can't stop talking about it. Maybe the show aired on tv which caused its sudden popularity. For a while, your group of friends still love that certain anime, but then you notice that your friends like it less and less to the point where they claim they hate it. Why does this happen? Because it got popular. Is there any stupider reason to stop liking an anime?! That's like reading a book halfway through and refusing to read the rest! This is what happened to me and my friends with Naruto except I started liking it when it aired on Toonami for the first time (when it wasn't so very popular). Now I'm the only one left of my group (although I'm not even friends with certain members anymore) who still follows Naruto.

Your friends are pretty lame seeing as Naruto was really popular even before it started airing on toonami

My ex friend is the worst offender when it comes to this sort of thing. She used to LOVE Naruto, and she stopped liking it soon after it got really popular with it being on Toonami for a while. She also used to love Death Note, InuYasha and other anime. After a couple years, she stopped liking ALL anime. Sold all her anime and manga; she didn't even give me anything for free because she wanted to make a profit! Any of you guys had friends do this to you?

My frien conner is like that. He used to like naruto, now he says that it is gay. He also used to like bleach but now he says that it is over rated.

^ What he said. In my school there used to be people who really loved Naruto, Bleach and a whole lot of another anime and then after a while they were like its all over-rated and they just stopped. They even make fun of me for still watching it.

I have never had someone actually stop liking an anime based off of it getting popular, however that has always had something to do with it. As an anime gets more popular, the creator of it will want to milk it for all that it is worth. This means that the story, power upgrades, etc will most likely become more and more "tacked on". So the appeal of the uniqueness, story, etc may be lost (see DBZ) which means that the old fans begin to dislike it.

At least that is how I feel about it.
