Soon enough, everyone released all of the second forms. Some of the scythes turned into flails, shot lasers, became katanas, and destroyed all of the BDs in sight. However, some Reapers got impaled, pummeled, and blasted away. We ran straight through enemy lines, destroying all of them. My fingertips inflated as I pointed towards a group of enemies. They exploded and regenerated as air bullets riddled their chests.
Thomas pointed his fingers at the enemies and dark chains wrapped around them. Suddenly, a light descended from the top of the cavern and caused the group to explode. Chase swung around Rosae, stabbing, gouging, and smashing everything around him. Roy still didn’t show his powers as he moved at blinding speeds, slashing and hitting everything he saw.
Schmidt moved at insane speeds and started punching Reapers in the gut, making them fly away. The Black Dawn Colonels dodged most attacks that came towards them. The giant, woman, and hooded fellow conjured a spiked club, a knife, and a sword, respectively. Each of them tore through our defenses. I rolled behind the hooded one and shot at it in the calf. He spun around and dodged it, as he slashed down at me.
I conjured an air blade, and parried his attack. He jumped back and disappeared. I looked around as I saw him five feet away, but as I struck, he moved his feet and disappeared again. He was moving at fast speeds, just like Schmidt and Roy! Before I could react, he slashed my back downwards. Luckily, the wound wasn’t deep as I moved forward at the last second. I turned around and pointed my blade at him, which exploded into a high-pressured air blast.
He pointed his left palm towards me, as I saw some stitches snap. An opening ruptured in the middle of the palm, as it sucked my air blast in. He pointed his katana at me as a blast of dark energy shot out. I couldn’t dodge it as it hit me square in the chest.
I flew back into a wall, as everything got blurry. Some thugs ran up to me with axes and clubs, as they tried to kill me. I didn’t have time to rest. I got up and spun kicked one of them in the chest. I used that momentum to jump into the air and swung my arm, making multiple air blades fly down and kill them.
The Colonel rushed towards me again, but Chase intercepted him. He looked back and smirked. He jumped into the air as he started swinging the flail. The hood man blocked the first one, dodged the second and parried the third. Suddenly, Chase pulled Rosae, who had been coiling around the hood man’s feet, and tied him up.
“Body control…” said the man’s raspy voice. Suddenly, dark energy gathered around the hood man. He tugged on Rosae once more, and spikes appeared on the string. However, the ones that were supposed to stab the Colonel shattered. His right hand grabbed a part of Rosae as it glowed. He pushed down and his hand went straight through the rope.
He rushed towards Chase as he disappeared and reappeared with speed behind him. Chase, now holding a scythe, parried the katana as a bunch of air filled up my right index finger. He saw what I was doing as he fended the enemy off. I appeared to the side of the hooded fellow and punched, sending out a few blasts of air that he absorbed with his left hand. The energy emerged from his right hand and covered the katana.
He sliced at Chase, who barely dodged the swing, and instead cut a boulder in half. The shadow katana would slice through anything it touched. Soon, it lost its aura as he approached me again. I knew that the energy he gained was from his left, and gets transferred to the right, so the only solution was to destroy the left hand.
However, Chase was taking care of that. He went into level two once again, and even though Rosae was broken, it still remained its shape. It just wouldn’t extend until it healed. He gestured his hand and all of the shattered thorns rose up into the air and combined into an energy arrow that he shot straight at the hooded figure. It sucked in the arrow, but suddenly, its arm exploded after all of the thorns rematerialized.
At first, I thought black blood came out, but I realized that it was the power of the shadow. While it was stunned, my fully blown up fingertip exploded and shot out an air bullet moving at approximately 200 mph. “Body control…” it murmured again. The bullet collided with its chest as it was blown back into a wall, making a giant hole, causing more rocks to fall down on him.
Suddenly, the rocks exploded as he busted out. “Hmm… It looks like he managed to burst through the rocks with some of the energy from my Rosae arrow. I thought he’d be dead before he could utilize it, but I guess not. These guys are pretty tough… I don’t think he’s an Umbra, though,”
“What? He’s not an Umbra?” I asked.
“No, his abilities rely on absorbing and countering. Umbra powers are more straightforward,”
Suddenly, he stabbed himself with his own katana. He started growing thinner as his left arm started regenerating. We looked alarmed as we rushed towards him. I tried to slash him, but he parried and dodged my strikes. He tried absorbing my wind blade, but doing so somehow hurt him instead. Suddenly, it hit me. “Chase, he can only absorb attacks weaker than him! I think I’ve got this!”
Chase nodded and went to fight some more soldiers in the vicinity. The hooded man said, “Body control… Legs…” His legs glowed with energy as he disappeared and was nowhere to be found. He appeared behind me and roundhouse kicked me into a wall. He bounced from the ground like a frog and attempted to drop kick me, but I dodged, just in time, only hurt by the shockwave of the impact.
He raised himself back up and side-kicked me into a wall. He flew at me with a flying back kick, a spinning heel kick while jumping. My reflexes kicked in as I managed to dodge it. Time slowed down even more as I conjured an air blade. I stuck it to the side as I jumped forward, slicing his right calf muscle.
He fell down and propelled himself up with his hands as he tried to hit me with a spinning hook kick with his left foot, while doing a handstand. I jumped onto the leg and bounced off it. He went back to his foot and blocked my downward strike. I used that opportunity to press my weight on the other side, making him collapse.
I continued my strike as I slashed him straight across the chest. He tried to regain his footing, but I rolled to the back of his legs, and sliced off his left leg from the knee. He fell down as I delivered the final blow to his heart. He exploded in a puff of dark energy as I walked onto the next battle.
Roy approached me as he said, “Good job killing that shadow soldier. We just named them as we observed the fight. They’re not Umbras, but manifestations of shadow that absorb and redirect weaker energy,”
“Yeah, I kind of figured that out,” I laughed as we tore through groups of enemies.
“However, the report, it was stated that there are three Umbras, and I don’t see the other one,” Roy said.
We looked around until we noticed that Reapers were randomly dropping. At first, I thought it was the super speed until I noticed rocks slowly being kicked and dirt slowly moving. Roy looked at me and said, “I’ve got this,” He closed his eyes and reopened them as he spun his scythe and it started smoking and suddenly ignited and disappeared in a wave of fire.
