Re: The Book Review!
Day of Tears- Julius Lester.
About slavery, basically. A master has to sell his slaves to pay off his debt from playing cards. It was one of the biggest slave auction ever; it lasted for 3 days.
But when the auction started, so did a down fall of rain that never ended until the slave auction was over.
However, the slaves' master said he wasn't going to sell 3 slaves, a family and main characters. But A mistress came along and offered a price to high to say no to for one of the slaves the master wasn't going to give up on. A little girl who takes care of the master's two girls.
A little after, maybe a year, the young girl and another slave sold by the master, run away to the North for freedom. Except to find that a new law was passed that if any white man were to find or see any runaway slaves, they were to return them to their masters or mistresses. But, the young boy and girl's old master's wife, found a way for them to be definitely free from slavery.
Although they were free in Canada, the young boy, now old, wanted to serve in the war to help free other slaves. But he died in the war.
I found this to be a fantastic book, I loved it.
All these masks we wore
We never knew what we had in store..
The storm is rolling in,
The thunders loud,
it hurts my ears..
I'm paying for my sins,
And it's gonna rain for years and years..
