Chapter Thirteen - Ambush
Rasen, Tempest, Hikari and the new member of their group, Bella made their way towards mid-district, Hikari walking slightly ahead of the other three. As they walked, Rasen decided to find out more about their new ally.
"So, Bella, tell us abit about yourself." Rasen said.
Bella was silent for a moment, without looking at Rasen or Tempest, she started speaking. "My parents were killed in a kaijuu attack when I was eleven years old, after they died, I joined the Chikayo rangers and was assigned as a body guard for the head scientist of Biokasei. I spent five years protecting him from possible atttack. In that time, I never suspected what kind of experiments he was conducting, I had no idea that he was using humans as test subjects...."
"It's not your fault Bella, those experiments were top-secret, they were hidden from you on purpose." Tempest assured her.
"I suppose..." Bella trailed off into thought.
For a while, no-one spoke, then.
"He...he said, that he created Hikari...Tempest...Bella, do you see Hikari as a 'thing'?" Rasen asked suddenly.
Bella shook her head quickly, Tempest hesitated, then spoke, "Well...no, I..."
Rasen spoke again, "Tempest...you tried to tell me once, that this world we live in, is broken....this world...it won't save Hikari, but I want to help her."
After a moment, Tempest spoke again, "So..you want to leave this world, and look for the sky? Even though you don't know if such a thing really exists?" There was silence for a moment, then, "You're crazy Rasen, but that doesn't mean you're necessarily wrong. We'll do our best."
Rasen and Bella nodded in response.
After a while longer, the group reached a large room, there was a large empty space in the middle and a door in each of the four walls. Tempest spoke again.
"If we make it through here, we will be in the industrial zone, and that much closer to mid-district."
As the four walked into the centre of the room, suddenly, doors started opening on three of the walls, rangers began pouring out and surrounding the group on all sides.
"Damn it! An ambush!" Tempest exclaimed. Then the door leading forward opened, and out walked a familiar figure.
"Hello partner, you're not dead yet?" Maikeru asked sarcasticly. "How's your head feel? Hearing any voices lately?"
Rasen was stunned Maikeru knew about the voices.
"You're done for, you know that?" Maikeru goaded.
Just then, I final figure entered the room, and Rasen knew this would get ugly, Captain Kiseki slowly made her way towards him, stopping in front of Maikeru.
"Rasen .08, in the course of your mission at the Biokasei labs, you came into contact with a highly experimental test subject. As a result, you are having hallucinations." Kiseki spoke with authority.
Rasens' head pounded and the voice returned "Hallucinations?"
Kiseki was still talking, "Now, you co-operate with rebels and show an unusual attatchment to an experiment, all due, to your unstable state."
The voice was roaring in Rasens' head, "She lies!"
"Rasen, if you put down your weapon and come with us, we can help you."
"You still have time Rasen" Kiseki told him.
Rasen spoke for the first time, "Can't you just, let us go?"
Maikeru scoffed, "Are you serious? That experiment is top secret!" He said, pointing to Hikari, "Anyway, you're going to di-" Kiseki cut him off.
"We cannot allow you to leave, I'm sorry."
Rasen faced Kiseki, "Captain...we aren't going with you."
"Rasen...you know, it isn't you who wants this, don't you? This experiment has linked with you, and even now it infects your very will!"
"No...no I." Rasens' head was pounding, his body was beginning to ripple, just like on the freight station.
Kiseki sighed, "I'm sorry Rasen, but this is as far as you go."
And with that, she gave the order to attack, and the surrounding rangers began their assault.
