Chapter Seventy-Two: Battle in the Skies


Note: My winter school break had officially ended, as school for me has begun, unfortunately. This also means I'll have less time to post new chapters, but I'll try my best to do so. I'll at most will only be able to post 2-4 chapters a week now, but please continue supporting and reading my fic. Anyways, time to begin the chapter...!


Miranda's laughter echoed across the skyscraper in flames, which had devoured Rose from view. As the sounds of her majestic yet eerie wings flapping continued, Miranda's blood red eyes moved, darting from one inch of the burning skyscraper to the other in a matter of milliseconds as they searched for signs of an incoming attempted attack.

Ice Release: Crystal River, Rose thought weakly as she quickly formed a series of handsigns at a rapid speed. Quickly, as her forming of handsigns ceased, Rose held out her hands as the ignited flames around her slowly began to chill down, freezing bit by bit. As the flames froze, Rose glanced at her burned knee. She was on the heated glass; the fire had destroyed almost all of the glass skyscraper, what remaining only flames, heated glass, and burning debris. Rose's right knee having been severely burned, along with her right hand. Before the fire could have grown so massive, Rose had managed to shield herself with an Ice Ninjutsu technique, barely managing to further herself in injury anymore. Efficiently, Rose murmured, "Ice Release: Time Capsule."
Immediately on word, Rose's left hand glowed with a blue color; a sudden chill entered the area which helped dampen the heat from the fire. Quickly, as she glanced around, her view on Miranda who remained at her position in midair, Rose took her left hand and gently patted her right knee. All of a sudden, the area chilled even further as ice slowly spread from Rose's hand to the burned knee, freezing it bit by bit. As the ice froze on her knee, Rose then did the same with her right hand, freezing it as well. She then took a quick glance at her injuries, now frozen by solid ice, and then turned her direction to Miranda.

"My, my, you are so talented, dear." Miranda commented as she licked her fangs with her tongue. "Humph," Rose said simply, slowly standing up, now somewhat healed of her injuries.
"Ice Release: Partisan." Rose then muttered as she set into a stance, pulling her left hand back in a thrusting manner. Miranda's face curved into a smile as ice gradually began to form around Rose's left hand. After a manner of seconds, the ice had completed its transformation, as Rose was now wielding a spear. The spear seemed more like a pole arm, yet was still a spear. At two and a half meters of length and having a dangerously sharp point, it was entirely created out of ice. Several other spears of ice was around Rose, each precisely identical and somehow floating in midair.
Miranda said nothing, her eyes on Rose, who promptly threw the spear at her. Quick to reply, Miranda easily flew, spinning to the left with her aloft wings as the spear flew past to her right. Her smile remained intact, as Rose then took a step back, quickly performing handsigns while the floating spears of ice promptly flew, targeted at Miranda. There were seven spears of ice in total, and they were all heading to Miranda as Rose rapidly performed handsigns. Meanwhile, the spears had managed to cross the distance between Rose and Miranda in a matter of a couple of seconds, a precise distance of one hundred and fifty meters. Maintaining her amused smile, Miranda did nothing as all of a sudden, bursts of flames shot out from midair below each of the spears, obliterating each one to boiled water.
However, immediately as the spears were reduced to boiled water, Rose finished her string of handsigns, as she mumbled, "Wind Release: Sonic Boom!" Immediately after, Rose set into a stance, holding her two hands out, each two palms pointed behind her. Abruptly, highly-powered gusts of wind gathered in her two palms, as each released a high explosive of pressurized-wind, which quickly crumbled what left of the recently skyscraper to dust and debris. With a massive sonic boom, Rose, literally, flew, heading directly at Miranda.
Miranda's eyes, meanwhile, widened. She's moving faster...at the speed of Mach 17.4!
And Rose suddenly vanished, as she then suddenly appeared, now face-to-face with Miranda, whom's smile enlarged at the sight of her. Quickly, Rose attempted to land an uppetcut punch directed at Miranda's face, only to be intercepted by Miranda herself who had caught the punch with her hand effortlessly. Rose betrayed no emotion, immediately following up with a kick aimed precisely at Miranda's stomach.
The kick was barely evaded, as Miranda used a graceful back flip to once again cover distance between the two. "Brilliant, dear" she yelled, grinning in delight as she gazed at Rose who had began to lose her foothold from the Sonic Boom technique, now beginning to fall from the forces of gravity. "Why, thank you, Mistress Miranda." Rose replied softly, her soft playful smile yet to be removed as she performed another few handsigns. Amazing..her handsigns, they're moving fast at an extremely rapid state, at about Mach 32.08! Miranda pondered, her eyes on the handsigns. After a number of seconds, Rose halted, as she once again placed her hands behind herself, her palms pointed at the other direction, indicating for the next launch of the Sonic Boom technique.

"Here I go," she murmured to herself.
