Background Info.
History:
Jiraiya (自来也) was one of the legendary Sannin, along with Tsunade and Orochimaru, who was trained by the Third Hokage. He was a self-proclaimed super-pervert, and wrote a popular adult fiction book series, called Icha Icha--a favorite of Kakashi Hatake. He was also known as the Toad Sage (蝦蟇仙人, Gama Sennin), because of his signature toad summonings. Jiraiya had the kanji character for 'Oil' (油, Abura) on his customized forehead protector.
When Jiraiya was younger, he was told a prophesy that one day he would train a child and that child would have the power to change the world for better or worse. After concidering the prophesy for a long time, Jiraiya set off to travel the world in search of this child and to right books such as his autobiography where the main character is called Naruto.
After travelling the world for a few years he returned to fight for his village in the great ninja war alongside Orochimaru (his best friend) and Tsunade (his friend who he also loved alot). In the war, he and his friends encountered the great hanzo and fought a long hard battle which in the end was declared as a draw, as a reward, he, Orochimaru and Tsunade were named as the sannin and became well known and heard of all around. After this fight, Jiraiya and co were going to return to the village but on the way they ran into some orphans who looked starved and unable to look after themselves, and so Jiraiya decided to stay behind and teach these children how to take care of them selves as he believed maybe one of this children may be a child of the prophesy he was once told.

Minato Namikaze, perhaps better known as the Yondaime Hokage was known throughout the ninja world as one of the most powerful shinobi ever – a genius who sacrificed his own life for the sake of his village and all the people he loved.
After graduating from the Ninja Academy at the age of 10, he and two other unnamed teammates went under the study of Jiraiya, one of the Sannin or legendary Konoha Three. While possessing great intelligence and also a good personality, he was also very self-driven, with fierce guts and a strong desire to succeed.
It is unknown at what age he became a chuunin and later a jounin, but at some time during his status as a jounin, he was the sensei or teacher of Hatake Kakashi, Uchiha Obito, and Rin – and in some time from period which the Kakashi Gaiden took place (Kakashi was 13 at the time) and the birth of Naruto Uzumaki a year later, he became the Yondaime Hokage of Konohagakure.
Very deep into the story, it is revealed that he had a child with a ninja of the former Whirlpool Country, Kushina Uzumaki, and sealed the Kyuubi no Youko, or Nine-Tailed Demon Fox, inside of his infant son. Before passing, he told the Sandaime Hokage that he wanted his son, Naruto Uzumaki, to be seen as a hero – a ninja whose life was to act as a sacrificial container of the Nine Tails

Personality:

Hidan was one of the most foul-mouthed, disrespectful characters in the series; he frequently sweared, cursed, and complained at allies and opponents alike. He rarely used honorifics when speaking, and even then, usually as a form of sarcasm. He was the only member of Akatsuki who did not respect their leader, Pain, and openly declared his willingness to kill him around others. The only respect he ever seemed to give was to his god, and even then, he was quite willing to use his name as an insult. He openly held his partner, Kakuzu, in contempt for his habit of blasphemy, love of money, and Kakuzu's frequent ridicule of Hidan's religion and battle style. Despite this, whenever Hidan was in the mood to kill, the two worked together flawlessly in battle.

Hidan had absolutely no moral restraints regarding who he killed. He considered slaughter a religious calling, and often took considerable pleasure in making his opponents' deaths as painful as possible. Given the requirements of his voodoo-like curse ritual, he was quite willing to inflict pain and injuries on himself, and openly relished the shared pain between him and the cursed victim. Despite this, he reacted "normally" (that is, he didn't enjoy the pain) to being injured by someone else, or when the opponent didn't share the pain.

Hidan was shown to be a sadist, particularly during his ceremony, taking sincere pleasure in the pain he caused his victims. His behavior in the anime bordered on insanity; he was frequently heard shrieking loudly while attacking and laughed maniacally when he was about to kill Asuma. Hidan also appeared to be quite spiteful towards his enemies (and nearly everyone else), even commenting to Shikamaru that "I've been waiting for this." ("this" referring to using his ceremony to kill Shikamaru).

However, his immortality had made him very arrogant (though not quite stupid), and he frequently engaged opponents with no regard for strategy, save to acquire some of their blood. Although ridiculed for his foolishness by Kakuzu and Shikamaru alike, and being obviously inferior in tactical genius to either of them, he was able to analyze the nature and limits of Shikamaru's Shadow Imitation Technique and conducted battle accordingly (though he retains his arrogant attitude even under these circumstances). Interestingly, he seemed to panic when Shikamaru took control of his body, shouting at Kakuzu to do something in a rather frantic voice. He didn't particularly like it when Kakuzu assisted in his battles, and only called for his help when he decided he needed it. Kakuzu tended to return the favor by coming in "late" and letting Hidan "die" as punishment for his arrogance.

Immortality: Hidan's primary ability was his complete inability to die, a result of extensive experimenting with the Jashin religion's various jutsu. Although, in one of the Databooks it was stated that in order for Hidan to remain immortal he must to continue to kill others, presumably with his special seal that links his body with their's. His immortality allowed him to survive numerous fatal injuries, and almost any form of dismemberment; he even retained his ability to speak after having his head cut off. However, his head still needed to be connected to his body in order to control it, so Kakuzu apparently helped reattach it and other body parts when needed. This inability to die was the primary reason for his partnership with Kakuzu. Since Kakuzu could not kill him, Kakuzu did not need to find new partners after his fits of rage. Although the two disliked working together, this advantage made them the ideal team. Furthermore, while capable of surviving injuries that would otherwise be fatal, Hidan was still not immune to pain (though he seemed to get over it very quickly, partly because of his masochistic nature).
Triple-Bladed Scythe and Agility: In battle, Hidan wielded a large crimson triple-bladed scythe that he used as a multipurpose attack; he wielded it as a short to long-range weapon. He controls it with a long rope that was connected to a coil hidden under his robe. He is very skilled using it, capable of deflecting a swarm of shuriken thrown at close range and keep Kakashi on the defensive, who is also skilled at taijutsu. Hidan claimed that the large size inhibited his attack speed. He even openly declared himself as Akatsuki's member with the slowest attacking speed. Shikamaru also speculated that the weapon was more designed to draw blood instead of dealing major damage. Though he claims to have the slowest attacking speed in the Akatsuki and because of this he can't hit anything, Hidan is extremely agile. He has tremendous acrobatic prowess and dexterity as he was able to dodge Shikamaru shadows while having the upperhand in a fight with an experience jonin, Asuma.
Jashin Ritual and Curse: Using a weapon, Hidan makes every attempt to acquire an opponent's blood, where upon consuming it he drew the Jashin symbol on the ground. This process somehow "linked" his body with his opponents. Once this link was established, Hidan took on a grim reaper-like appearance with black skin and white bone-like markings. In this state, he was essentially a voodoo doll for his opponent (any damage that was done to him was also inflicted on the opponent). Hidan referred to this as his "curse", and he was fond of toying with his victims by inflicting nonfatal injuries with his pike. He took obvious pleasure in their shared pain.[ Once he was done toying with the opponent, or if he wanted to kill them quickly, he impaled himself through the heart, killing them and relishing in intense satisfaction.

Despite its effectiveness, the curse had many requirements and could be a slow technique to employ. The curse may be avoided if the opponent happened to know what to look for and knew of Hidan's inability to die. So far only Shikamaru was able to counter this technique much to the surprise of even Kakuzu. The link between Hidan's curse and his opponent could be broken prematurely if Hidan was removed from the symbol; however, Hidan would remain in his transformed state, allowing the curse to be easily re-established by him simply entering the symbol's borders once more.

Background Info.
History:
Hidan hailed from Yugakure. After Yugakure deteriorated from a shinobi village to a tourist site, Hidan became infuriated with how things were turning out. He believed that the shinobi that resided there were meant to kill, and thus slaughtered his neighbors before leaving Yugakure and joining the cult-like faith known as Jashin (ジャシン, lit. Evil God), a religion that worshiped a deity of the same name. The primary teaching of this faith appears to be outright slaughter, where anything less than utter destruction is considered a sin. The amulet around his neck is a symbol of Jashin and he used it to pray to his god before battling, requesting a good kill, or (when he was not allowed to) for forgiveness. After a fight, should he have time, Hidan performed a thirty-minute ritual consisting of lying within a Jashin symbol inscribed on the ground with a pike impaled through his chest. Hidan claimed to be very devout to his faith, refusing to battle Yugito Nii without praying, and often claiming to be bringing his god's judgment down on his opponents.



Itachi:

Uchiha Itachi is an S-Level criminal and a Konoha Missing-nin. He graduated at the top of his Academy class at 7, had mastered the Sharingan by age 8, became a Chuunin at 10 and was previously a Black Ops (ANBU in the Japanese versions) captain at the age of only 13. At 18, he was even feared by Orochimaru. He left Konoha some years ago, after killing his whole clan except for Uchiha Sasuke, his brother. He is currently associated with Akatsuki. Orochimaru had planned to use Itachi's body as a new container, but seeing as Itachi is powerful to such a degree that even Orochimaru fears him, it's easy to see why Orochimaru decided to leave Akatsuki and try his luck with Sasuke instead.
The reason Itachi killed his clan, and the reason he left Sasuke alive only to physically and mentally abuse him, still remains a mystery. When asked why by Sasuke, he replied "To see what I am capable of." He was until recently the sole person who possessed the Mangekyō Sharingan as revealed in the manga. Hatake Kakashi has somehow developed a new kind of Mangekyō Sharingan in the manga. Kakashi's Mangekyō Sharingan appears different compared to Itachi's, and the similarity in power of both Mangekyō Sharingan is still unknown.
Itachi has told Sasuke that if Sasuke were to obtain the Mangekyō Sharingan, the people able to use it will total at three. It is unknown whom the third person Itachi is referring to.
Trivia
- The name "Itachi" means "Weasel" (Note that in Japanese mythology, weasels are a bad omen, signifying bad luck and deaths).
- While it is generally agreed on by fans that Uchiha Itachi became an ANBU captain and massacred his clan at age 13, quite a few of them seem to be confused about when he graduated from the academy, mastered the Sharingan, and became Chūnin. The events are often misinterpreted as having happened one or two years earlier than they did.



Shino:

Aburame Shino is one of the series more mysterious characters. At birth, he entered into a symbiotic relationship with a breed of insect know as the “Kikaichu” or Destruction Bug, as all his clan did. In exchange for feeding on his chakra, the bugs serve multiple purposes for their host. Shino’s clothing covers much of his face, opting for circular black sunglasses to cover his eyes and a high-necked jacket to conceal his lower face. Later, his jacket includes a hood which covers even more of himself and even Naruto has difficulty recognizing him.

Shino was assigned along with Hyuuga Hinata and Inuzaka Kiba to the tutelage of Yuuhi Kurenai. Even to his own team, he remained much of an enigma. His true abilities were first seen in the Chuunin Exam when he faced Zaku. A hole opened up in Shino’s face and to the disgust of most watching, hordes of bugs began to crawl all over his skin. Shino revealed to his opponent that the bugs would eat his chakra, rendering him too weak to move. Trapping Zaku between himself and his army, Shino demanded surrender. When Zaku threatened to attack both of them simultaneously, Shino revealed that he had a hidden surprise, sending his bugs inside Zaku’s weapon to jam it. Because Zaku’s weapons were integrated into his physical arms, they were damaged beyond repair. Shino explains that having a “trump card” or “ace in the hole” is vital in battle.

Because of his victory, Shino advanced to the finals of the exam, slated to face Kankurou. However, when their match was to take place, Kankurou instantly gave in. The reason, it was later revealed, was to prevent anyone seeing his hidden techniques with his puppet, Karasu. Gaara’s instability then caused the premature plan of the combined Sand and Sound invasion. Shino watched as Kankurou and his siblings retreated to help Gaara, following them in secret. As Kankurou prepared to take on Sasuke to slow him down, Shino stepped in and demanded the match he had been deprived of.

Demonstrating some of the Destruction Bugs’ more unusual abilities, Shino used them to make a decoy of himself, while moving close to Kankurou to strike at him. While Shino’s hand-to-hand skills were none too impressive, he had deliberately made a feint to plant a female bug on Kankurou, giving the rest of his bugs a permanent target to chase after. Despite Kankurou managing to catch Shino with a poison gas bomb, Shino forced the stalemate as his bugs tracked Kankurou down and left him paralyzed after eating all his chakra. Shino’s father later appeared and saved his life, injecting him with his own bugs that ate away the poison. Later, Shino would be absent from the mission to rescue Sasuke, on a mission with his father. Over the next few years Shino would again take the Chuunin Exam and finally be promoted to Chuunin.

Upon Naruto's return to the village, Shino was hurt that he was not quickly recognized. Some weeks later, Team 8 under the leadership of Kakashi joined with Team 7 to hunt down Uchiha Itachi in the hopes of finding Sasuke. The team set out and managed to locate Akatsuki member Tobi. Shino tried to use his bugs, but Tobi's ability to phase through matter and transport himself allowed him to avoid harm. When the team eventually tracked down Sasuke's location, they came upon the ruins of Sasuke and Itachi's fight. Both brothers were gone, leaving the teams empty handed, so they returned to Konoha.

Hatake Kakashi (Kakashi Hatake in the English anime) is a character in the anime and manga Naruto. The surname "Hatake" means "farmland" and "Kakashi" means "a scarecrow".
Copy Ninja Kakashi
Kakashi is the Konohagakure Jounin assigned in the beginning of the manga and anime to train and look after Team 7, including Uzumaki Naruto, Uchiha Sasuke, and Haruno Sakura. He is also known as Copy Ninja Kakashi (Kopī Ninja no Kakashi) or Kakashi of the Sharingan (Sharingan no Kakashi).
These aliases refer to the fact he copied more than a thousand jutsu (ninja techniques) using his left eye, which possesses the Sharingan, an advanced bloodline trait found only in some members of the nearly defunct Uchiha clan. The three comma-like marks aligned in a wheel in the pupil of his left Sharingan-activated eye indicate that it is fully developed for a normal Sharingan, with only one more level -- Mangekyō Sharingan. However, he is not a real Uchiha, and in fact receives the Sharingan eye from a dying Uchiha Obito, his teammate, during his first mission as a Jōnin. During that mission, Kakashi injured his left eye in a battle trying to protect Obito, leaving behind the scar (which has nothing to do with the transplant operation). The scar comes from a slash that destroyed his original eye. Recently, in chapter 277 of the manga, it was revealed that Kakashi evolved his Sharingan to the Mangekyou...with a twist. His Mangekyou Sharingan can distort time and space...the full extent of its abilities have not been revealed yet.

His history
Chronically tardy, Kakashi initially appears to be flaky and unreliable. He is, however, an exceptionally skillful ninja, a child prodigy who attained Chuunin rank at the age of 6 and became a Jounin at age 13. His father was Hatake Sakumo, known as the "White Fang" of Konoha (Konoha no Shiroi Kiba) and a genius ninja on par with the Legendary Sannin (famous students of the Sandaime Hokage : Orochimaru, Jiraiya, and Tsunade).
Kakashi Gaiden (sidestory), which began with chapter 239, entitled Gaiden 1: Mission Start...!, introduces the other two members of Kakashi's Genin team, shown in a team portrait in the conclusion of the Chuunin exam arc of the manga. The sensei or teacher in charge of Kakashi's team was the Fourth Hokage, while his teammates were Rin, a girl trained as a medic ninja, and Uchiha Obito, Kakashi's teammate who wears goggles in the team portrait from flashbacks at the conclusion of the Chuunin Exam arc. The gaiden begins on the eve of Kakashi's promotion to Jounin and team leader and the beginning of a mission to the battlefront in the middle of a conflict between Iwagakure (Hidden Rock) and the Konohagakure (Hidden Leaf).
Obito, mentioned by Kakashi several times earlier in the series, is revealed to be a member of the Uchiha clan. But, unlike other noteworthy Uchiha including Sasuke and Itachi, Obito initially appears to be like Naruto in behavior, personality and ninja ability, while Kakashi is the acknowledged genius and leader of the group. Obito initially appears without the Sharingan ability. He manages to awaken the Sharingan in battle in chapter 242.
The gaiden also explains the origin of the scar on Kakashi's left eye. In the earlier arcs, it was believed that Kakashi's left eye scar came from the surgical implantation of the Sharingan eye. However, in chapter 242 of the Naruto manga, entitled Gaiden Chapter 4: Crybaby Ninja, the scar on Kakashi's left eye appears now to have come from a battle with a Rock ninja. Kakashi detects a Rock ninja, and yells his warning at his teammate, Uchiha Obito, who is too slow to react. Kakashi jumps in front of Obito to save him from the enemy's kunai and thus Kakashi's left eye is slashed to form the scar that Kakashi still has today, blinding him in the left side.
In chapter 243, named Present, the mission to rescue Rin from the Rock ninja continues. When Obito throws Kakashi out of the way of a falling rock, caused by a Iwa ninja's Doton: Iwayado Kuzushi (Earth Release: Rock Lodging Destruction), his entire right side is crushed from that falling rock. Mortally wounded, he offers Kakashi his Sharingan-capable, intact left eye as a belated promotion present and final gift to Kakashi. Rin successfully transplants Obito's left eye, replacing Kakashi's useless left eye. Obito's Sharingan eye only has two tomoe, suggesting that Kakashi succeeds in fully evolving the eye to its third stage at a latter time.
Following the war, Kakashi earned renowned fame for his use of the Sharingan and developed a reputation for failing every potential Genin team that took the Survival Training Exam he proctored. Like the Sandaime Hokage, and probably Jiraiya and the Fourth Hokage, Kakashi uses the infamous "Bell Test" to test his potential students. Ostensibly a training exercise with Kakashi, the three Academy graduates each have to take a bell from Kakashi, however there are only two bells. The ultimate goal of the Bell Test is to test the potential Genin's teamwork and self sacrifice. This test is what Kakashi uses as the real Genin graduation exam, weeding out potential Genin selected by their passing of the Ninja Academy's graduation exam with a failure rate of more than 66%. While his exam is generally considered to be more exacting and stringent than those of other Jōnin, the Third Hokage believes that his decisions to fail previous teams ultimately proved to be correct and wise. Team 7 became the first Genin team to pass Kakashi's exam.

Kakashi and Team 7
The initial results of the Survival Training Exam for Team 7 were unpromising. Naruto's impulsiveness, Sakura's tunnel vision focus on Sasuke and Sasuke's arrogant superiority and lone-wolf attitude resulted in a lack of teamwork, which led them to fail the Survival Training Exam. Given a second chance, an uncharacteristic display of teamwork impressed Kakashi enough to pass the team, the first Genin team he had ever passed.
The team improved their skills under Kakashi's training, which included the tree-walking exercise seen in the anime and manga. This exercise, which involves the use of chakra to walk up trees with feet alone, greatly improved the chakra control abilities of the team as they prepared for a final battle in the Nami no Kuni (Land of Waves) against Momochi Zabuza and his student, Haku.
Kakashi's controversial decision to permit Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura to take the Chūnin exam surprised many, who believed that Kakashi should have given the team another year to prepare. Yet, through this decision, the team begins to truly realize their potential to be ninja. By the end of the second stage, the three exhibit signs of extensive growth from their extreme ordeals.
Kakashi, during the tree-walking exercise, is the first one to recognize Naruto's potential to surpass Sasuke and Kakashi in Chakra capacity. Initially considered to be weak and untalented, Naruto's growth as a ninja early in the series is attributed to Kakashi's training and influence. Naruto, in his fight against Inuzuka Kiba, quotes Kakashi's earlier admonition to him: "Use your techniques carefully, after giving some thought to what you're doing! Or it'll be used to the other person's advantage, stupid!"
Through the Survival Training Exam, Kakashi recognizes Sakura's faculty with Genjutsu.
However, despite the training that Kakashi has given to Naruto and Sakura, the one he has spent the most time in training with is Sasuke. After the second stage of the Chūnin exam until Sasuke's defection to Orochimaru, Kakashi takes an active role in training Sasuke, teaching him Chidori and how to use his Sharingan, as well as attempting to seal the effects of Sasuke's Cursed Seal. Kakashi, like Sasuke, has lost many important people in his life including Obito, whose grave he appears to visit frequently. Sasuke's and Obito's relation, plus Sasuke's Sharingan ability and natural talent, lead Kakashi to train Sasuke for the third portion of the Chūnin exam, much to Naruto's disappointment, believing that Kakashi is playing favorites with Sasuke. Kakashi's intention was for Sasuke to learn to use the Chidori to focus on protecting the important friends he has made in the present, rather than seeking vengeance for the loss of his family.
With Akatsuki seeking to capture Naruto, Jiraiya appropriates responsibility for Naruto and his training from Kakashi, while they agree that Sasuke should develop his Sharingan under Kakashi's guidance.
Following his recovery after a confrontation with Uchiha Itachi and his Mangekyō Sharingan, Kakashi awakes to find that much has changed. Sasuke's frustration at his inability to kill Itachi and his growing envy of Naruto's recent growth and success leads him to demand a fight against Naruto in order to prove his superiority. The fight quickly gets out of hand and Kakashi is forced to intervene to protect Sakura from accidental harm.
Despite Kakashi's admonishment about Chidori and his need to end his quest for revenge, Sasuke's frustration and his need for revenge against Itachi lead him to leave the village and seek Orochimaru and his offer of power. Knowing that Naruto and Sasuke have the potential to kill each other, Kakashi attempts to intervene but arrives too late, finding Naruto seriously injured and Sasuke gone, having succeeded in his defection to Orochimaru.
With Kakashi now called on by the village to take more A and S level missions due to the current manpower shortage, Sasuke's defection to Orochimaru, Naruto's three year apprenticeship to Jiraiya, and Sakura's medical apprenticeship to Tsunade, the Fifth Hokage, it seems that Team 7 is currently defunct.
Yet, after two and a half years, Naruto and Jiraiya return to the village earlier than expected because of the impatience of Akatsuki at capturing Naruto for his Kyūbi no Yōko (Nine-Tails Fox Demon). Kakashi forms a team with Naruto and Sakura again. However, the relationship between the three is no longer master and students, but equal teammates.
Kakashi decides to test Naruto and Sakura's skills with another bell exercise, identical to the one they underwent with Sasuke when they first met Kakashi. The exercise reveals that Naruto and Sakura's skills and abilities had improved over the years. However, Naruto and Sakura manage to finally retrieve the two bells by preying upon Kakashi's addiction to the "Icha Icha" ("Make-out") series of books written by Jiraiya, by trying to spoil the ending of the latest volume, Make-out Tactics, which Naruto gave Kakashi, but hasn't finished yet.

His jutsu
In terms of the three main classifications of jutsu: Genjutsu, Ninjutsu, and Taijutsu, Kakashi appears to be balanced in his abilities, as demonstrated in the survival exam. Kakashi is a former member of Anbu (Black Ops in the English version).
His Kuchiyose no Jutsu (Summoning Technique) involves a blood contract with a pack of Ninken (Ninja Dogs) used for searching and tracking, among other purposes, as seen in his battle with Momochi Zabuza. He has a special Kuchiyose called Kuchiyose: Doton: Tsuiga no Jutsu (Summoning: Earth Release: Tracking Fang Technique)
His signature, and only original, jutsu is the Raikiri (Lightning Blade). Another name for it is Chidori (meaning, "A Thousand Birds"), due to the fact that the sound emitted from the chakra is similar to that of the chirping of a thousand birds. Doing the jutsu, he concentrates chakra into his right hand until it becomes visible. At high speed, this jutsu can cut through anything; thus, it serves as an effective assassination technique. Charging at an opponent, the chakra in his hand grows stronger from body activation, while the sound emitted by the chakra begins to resemble the chirping of a thousand birds. Because the jutsu involves a high speed, linear stab, the Sharingan is needed for the technique to be effective and to avoid enemy countermeasures. Developing Chidori before acquiring his Sharingan eye, he is nearly impaled by an enemy countermeasure, and is injured. As a result, the Fourth Hokage forbids Kakashi to use Chidori again. Kakashi resumes his use of Chidori after receiving the Sharingan eye. Kakashi is believed to have been able to use this jutsu to cut through a lightning bolt, which is why his nickname for the jutsu is Raikiri. There is a distinct difference between Raikiri and Chidori. While Chidori is A-rank (an ultra high level jutsu), Raikiri is S-rank (extreme level jutsu). This is due to Kakashi cutting a lightning bolt with it. Uchiha Sasuke, the only other person able to do this jutsu, is still only at A-rank level, thus he still calls it Chidori.
Another famous "jutsu" of his, is the Konohagakure Hiden: Taijutsu no Ōgi: Sennen Goroshi (Hidden Leaf Secret: Taijutsu Supreme Technique: A Thousand Years of Death) (kancho), a verbose title for an extremely sharp, simple poke to the rectal region of an opponent with the index and middle fingers of both hands, launching him into midair with humiliating pain. This is first demonstrated by Kakashi on Naruto during the Survival Training Exam. Naruto "inherits" this jutsu and uses it in modified form later in the series.
In addition to the three main types of techniques, Kakashi had been developing faculty with seals. This is seen in Kakashi's ability to restrain the effects of Orochimaru's Cursed Seal on Sasuke with the Fūja Hōin (Evil Sealing Method). Because of Kakashi's current skill level with seals, the seal's power to restrain the Cursed Seal depended on Sasuke's willpower and determination to forsake it and control his emotions. Otherwise, the seal is rendered ineffective.

In serious confrontations, however, Kakashi uncovers and uses his Sharingan eye. With the Sharingan, he is able to use its various abilities, which extend beyond its notorious copy ability, as demonstrated in his fight against Zabuza early in the series. Although not a member of the Uchiha clan, we see in chapter 142, entitled Kakashi vs. Itachi, that Kakashi's ability to use the Sharingan is nearly as skillful as Uchiha Itachi, who mastered the normal capabilities of the Sharingan at a very early age. Since Kakashi is not a Uchiha clan member, he should not be able to develop the Mangekyō Sharingan and thus cannot counter it. However, after the time skip, Kakashi is able to use the Mangekyo Sharingan, though his looks different from Itachi's. Also, Kakashi receives more adverse effects from prolonged use of the Sharingan as it drains more chakra energy from him then from an Uchiha. Additionally, he cannot activate or deactivate it at will. The result is Kakashi normally appearing with his forehead protector covering the left eye, to avoid activating the Sharingan in order to conserve chakra.
In Part II, Kakashi reveals he has developed a kind of Mangekyo Sharingan, although it looks different from Itachi's Mangekyō Sharingan. With it, he can manipulate space-time, even to a focus, and utilize it to conduct long range attack. In the jutsu's premiere, he managed to destroy Deidara's right arm. Later on, when Deidara's Bunshin attempted to blow himself up and take everyone around with him, he used the Mangekyo Sharingan to banish him out of existence.

His emphasis
Kakashi is also a stickler for teamwork, as seen in his design of the survival exam for Team 7. Based on Kakashi Gaiden, Kakashi appears to have been a stickler to ninja rules and regulations, because of his father's suicide over guilt of breaking village rules to save his teammates, which lead to the failure of a vital mission. He seems to have mellowed out a bit, however; apparently with some help from the 4th Hokage and Obito.
The letter, disagreeing to Kakashi's previous inflexible attitude towards rules and regulations, says to Kakashi:

Ninja no sekai de rūru ya okite o yaburu yatsu wa kuzu yobawari sareru...
Kedona... nakama o taisetsu ni shinai yatsu wa sore ijō no kuzu da
"In the world of the ninja those who violate the rules and laws are called trash
However... those who don't take care of their comrades are worse than trash" (Original Japanese version)
or
"In the world of ninja, those who don't follow the rules are scum, that's true. But, those who abandon their friends are worse than scum." (Adapted US anime version)
Kakashi, who has taken these words to heart in the following years, repeats these words to Team 7 after they pass the survival training, becoming the only Genin team to pass survival training with Kakashi as their proctor.

His life
Kakashi has an ongoing rivalry with Maito Gai; Kakashi's current record stands at 49 wins, 50 losses. It is later revealed that these battles are diverse in nature, including sprints and Rock, Paper, Scissors. Gai serves as a perfect antithesis for Kakashi in personality, appearance and in technique. Unlike Kakashi, Gai has had to work hard to achieve success as a ninja and mainly uses taijutsu, which is the natural counter to the Sharingan.
Another ninja has proven to be a match for Hatake Kakashi: Yakushi Kabuto, Orochimaru's spy, lieutenant and medical ninja, who manages to elude Kakashi in several confrontations. Initially posing as an undistinguished Konoha genin, he proves to be a Jōnin level ninja with skills and abilities on par with Kakashi. His encounter with Uchiha Itachi demonstrated that while Kakashi has one Sharingan eye, he may not be able to match the eyes of a natural Sharingan user. While he could resist the Mangekyō Sharingan, it was the Tsukuyomi technique that ended up not only defeating Kakashi, but rendering him unable to fight for a very long time.
Kakashi's personal life appears to be as much of a mystery as the face behind the mask he has worn for most of his ninja career. He has no living family, or at least none he cares to acknowledge (telling Sasuke in chapter 177 that everyone he loves is already dead), though he is immediately recognizable as the son of (or mistaken for) the 'White Fang' of Konoha, Hatake Sakumo. Whether the mask he wears is because of this resemblence or for some other reason is unknown. However, despite Naruto's theories to the contrary, the special chapter "At the Ichiraku Ramen" implies that he is in fact quite handsome.
Though he reportedly has many hobbies, the one pastime most seen in the series is his reading of Icha Icha Paradise (Icha Icha Paradaisu, "Make-out Paradise"), the adult, probably pornographic novel authored by Jiraiya that is a runaway best seller in the Naruto mythology. He reads this book when testing Naruto , Sasuke and Sakura. In the first Naruto movie the new daimyo of the Snow country, Fujikaze Yukie, tells team Kakashi that she can be both the Snow Country's monarch and an actress. The fact that she's holding Icha Icha paradise while saying this probably means she'll be playing in an Icha Icha Paradise movie. Later on in the series, Kakashi is reading the second volume of the Icha Icha series, "Icha Icha Violence" ( Icha Icha Baiorensu, "Make-out Violence"). In episode 101, Kakashi sees an advertisement for a movie under that same title. The picture shows a woman kicking a man. With the beginning of Part 2 of the Naruto manga, Kakashi receives the third installment of the Icha Icha series, "Icha Icha Tactics" ( Icha Icha Takutikusu, "Make-out Tactics"), which has yet to be released in the Naruto world. He has also been reading Icha Icha Violence. Otherwise, Kakashi visits Konoha's memorial site, where the dead heroic ninja are remembered. In particular, he visits for Obito's sake.
One past manga arc, Kakashi Gaiden, is a side-story, which focuses on Kakashi's past, his relationship with Obito and answers many of the mysteries of Kakashi's life, most notably the origins of his trademark Sharingan eye and Raikiri attack.

Madara Uchiha




At the beginning posing as Tobi in the Akatsuki, formerly appeared to be Zetsu's subordinate. Madara, as Tobi, became a full Akatsuki member after Sasoris death. He later wore Sasori's ring having recovered it after his death and took his place as Deidara's partner. After Deidara's death, he revealed his real name and that he had been the one giving Pain orders, making him the true leader of the Akatsuki. Only Pain, Konan, Zetsu, Itachi Uchiha, and Kisame Hoshigaki (who recognized him as the former Mizukage) know his true identity. He is one of five people who can use the Mangekyo Sharingan, the other four being his clanmates Izuna Uchiha (his younger brother-dead-), Itachi Uchiha(-dead-), and Sasuke Uchiha, along with an unrelated Kakashi Hatake.
According to Madara, eighty years ago when shinobi were battling as individual clans, not as villages, among a countless number of them, two clans emerged as the strongest: the Uchiha clan and the Senju clan. Madara was also the first to activate the Mangekyo Sharingan.

He had a younger brother named Izuna who was equal to him in every way and also awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan. Together they ruled over the Uchiha clan, with Madara taking the role as leader. But eventually Madara went blind, due to side effects of the Mangekyo Sharingan. During the final fight of Itachi and Sasuke, it is revealed that Madara took away his brothers eyes which killed his brother. Contrarily to what many believed, Madara claimed that his younger brother gave him the eyes voluntarily to protect the Uchiha clan. At some point in Madara's early life, by the decision of the entire Uchiha clan except for him, he formed an alliance with the Senju clan, Hashirama Senju's clan, and together with its leader, the future First Hokage, Madara founded Konoha.
However, when Hashirama was chosen to be the First Hokage of Konoha, Madara feared that the Uchiha clan would lose supremacy and he sought the help of the Uchiha in his challenge for leadership. The Uchiha clan, however, refused, believing he was greedy. None of the Uchiha would help Madara, and he decided to leave the village. Feeling hurt and betrayed, he came back and wanted revenge against Konoha which led to a legendary battle at the Valley of the End against Hashirama. During the battle, Madara used his Mangekyo Sharingan to take control of the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox and used it in a desperate attempt to kill Hashirama. Madara, however, was ultimately defeated and was presumed by most to have died after the battle. Madara fled, and was never seen or heard of again out in the public for decades. To commemorate the battle, two statues, one of Madara and the other of the Hashirama, were carved into the earth around the waterfall. It is for this reason that Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke's fight at that location was noted to be ironic.





Madara created the criminal organization known as the Akatsuki to look over problems. He hid behind the shadows and placed Pain as the figure-head leader, with Madara giving Pain orders from the background. Besides Pain, the only members who are shown knowing Madara's position as the true leader are Konan, Itachi, Zetsu, and Kisame.

Itachi, Jiraya and Minato believe, it was Madara himself that controlled the demon fox to attack Konoha, though Madara denies this, saying that the demon fox was a natural disaster. Nevertheless, when he came to destroy the entire village of Konoha in revenge, he met up with Itachi, who had already been assigned his mission to kill his clan. Itachi successfully talked Madara into only killing the Uchiha clan as long as he left the rest of the village alone. Madara also taught Itachi about the Mangekyo Sharingan, helping him by teaching him how to unlock its true power. After Itachi killed off the Uchiha clan because of orders from Konoha, Madara let Itachi into Akatsuki for unknown reasons.


Tobi




To keep in Akatsuki's shadow, Madara eventually took on the disguise of Tobi and was placed within Akatsuki as Zetsu's subordinate. As Tobi, Madara wears an orange mask, with swirls focused around the right eye, which covers his entire face outside of his right eye. Before wearing the swirl mask, Madara wore a similar mask, with markings across it which resembled the Hidden Mist Village's ANBU mask, covering his entire face but the right eye. However, the mask does not bear the symbol of the Hidden Mist Village.



Furthermore, Tobi has several bolts or pins present on the arms of his uniform, obscured by his Akatsuki cloak. While acting as Tobi, unlike others within Akatsuki, Tobi is carefree and goofy, but Madara uses a very formal and correct manner of speech.
While Tobi greatly respects his other members, referring to Deidara as "senpai", most of the other members tend to get easily annoyed by him. Deidara, who believes all within Akatsuki should be serious and calm, is not pleased with Tobi's childish personality, and frequently attacks the latter in a comedic fashion when annoyed. Kisame and Zetsu, on the other hand, somewhat appreciate Tobi's ability to brighten up a gloomy organization such as theirs.
As Tobi, Madara has not been seen wearing a forehead protector, probably to conceal his identity, though he already has a mask covering his forehead, so this could also be why it is not visible. Although, it stands to reason that since Madara hates Konoha, he probably refuses to wear the headband anyway, like Orochimaru and Sasuke.


Three-Tails Capture






Tobi, who by now has successfully joined Akatsuki, is sent to collect the Three-Tailed Beast with Deidara. After Deidara reveals that this is Tobi's mission, Tobi, panicking, is seen only running away from the Three-Tails in a comic fashion. After the battle, which goes mostly unwitnessed (to further add mystery to Tobi's identity), Tobi triumphantly claims to have defeated Three-Tails in a single blow, though Deidara disagrees. Tobi later falls asleep atop the Three-Tails after making another cheeky comment, much to the anger of Deidara, who "wakes him up" by detonating a clay bomb next to him

Looks: Kimimaro was characterised by his pale skin, vivid green eyes, masculine facial features, and shoulder-length white hair, which he wore divided down the middle on his head distinguished by an zig-zag hair parting with two separate partings on either side of his face. As a child, Kimimaro wore his hair longer, tied in a loose pony-tail near the middle of his back, though the initial style was very similar to his current one. Under the wing of Orochimaru, Kimimaro wore a specialised version of the traditional Sound-nin ensemble, consisting of a light lavender, loose-fitting, long-sleeved, zip-up shirt, black pants cut off around mid-calf, bandages wrapped around his ankles, traditional shinobi sandals, and a purple, rope-like belt tied in an inverted bow around his waist. He also wore two red, tube-like hair ornaments; one on either side of his head, securing two locks of his silvery-white hair. He did not wear a Sound headband, despite his extreme loyalty to Orochimaru.

Personality: Kimimaro had a strong devotion towards Orochimaru, bordering on religious zealotry, or considering him a father figure, as Orochimaru was the only person to seemingly care for and inspire him. On his way to Kirigakure, he encountered Zabuza Momochi and Haku, apparently shortly after they met each other. Kimimaro's relationship with Orochimaru was similar to Haku's relationship with Zabuza, both having similar backgrounds, and both found a purpose in living for their respective master. His dedication to Orochimaru was so great, that, despite his body's failing strength, he was able to will himself into battle, and still proved himself as an extremely dangerous opponent for the likes of Naruto Uzumaki, Rock Lee and Gaara.

Kimimaro demonstrated extreme distaste for "trash" ninja, as he put it. He generally attempted to "clean it up", by killing the people who were "trash", even if they were his allies. Despite his verbal disrespect of his opponents, Kimimaro had been shown to have a sense of honour in battle, as demonstrated when he stopped the battle to allow Rock Lee to take his "medicine". The most notable trait that separated him from his four colleagues was that he rarely showed emotions, other than surprise, until Gaara insulted his faith in Orochimaru, causing him to become enraged before his death. It was also shown that Kimimaro was crying when he discovered he was no longer useful to Orochimaru.

Kimimaro's abilities came from his Kekkei Genkai, Shikotsumyaku, which allowed the user to manipulate their own skeletal structure as a means of combat. Specifically, it allowed Kimimaro to combine his chakra with calcium, making his bones flexible. Kimimaro also stated that his bones were stronger than steel. Kimimaro used this ability to wield his bones as weapons in battle, and could use them in the forms of taijutsu attacks (which he called dances) to give him a variety of abilities.




Taijutsu


Kimimaro's abilities made him well suited for close-range combat fighting, demonstrating tremendous taijutsu skills combined with equally impressive speed, agility, and dexterity. He was able to defeat several hundred of Naruto's Nine-Tails-enhanced shadow clones effortlessly without breaking a sweat, at the same time not allowing himself to be struck. Kimimaro combines his Shikotsumyaku and taijutsu capabilities to form many deadly "dances".




Cursed Seal

Like many others of Orochimaru's closest followers, Kimimaro was given a Cursed Seal, which granted him tremendous power. He bore the Cursed Seal of Earth, which is said to be equal in power to the Cursed Seal of Heaven. When in his Level 2 form, his appearance was similar to that of a dinosaur, with dark grey skin, six large bone spines protruding out of his back, and a long bone-spiked tail.

Background Info.
History: Kimimaro was the sole survivor of the Kaguya clan, who were battle-loving barbarians. Being a rare owner of the Kekkei Genkai, Shikotsumyaku, Kimimaro's father, fearing his son's abilities, locked him up in a cage for most of his life, releasing him only when he was needed to fight for the clan. The Kaguya clan was wiped out when they attacked Kirigakure, seemingly for no reason other than the desire to kill. Having underestimated their opponent's defenses, they were slaughtered, with only Kimimaro surviving. With nowhere to go, Kimimaro was eventually found by Orochimaru, and was recruited as one of his most loyal ninja. While belonging to a clan that loved killing, murder, and slaughter, and being the most powerful of this clan, Kimimaro was not truly violent, because he never really knew the outside world. Thus, the only reason he fought was because his clan needed him to do so, and being needed by someone was the one thing he truly desired. However, when he met Orochimaru, his desires changed to serve him, and to ensure the continuation of his master's dreams and ambitions. Kimimaro was selected to be one of Orochimaru's next bodies, primarily because of the rare Kekkei Genkai he possessed. However, Kimimaro was unfortunately afflicted by an unknown disease, and hence, was no longer useful to Orochimaru. Kimimaro was a close friend of Jugo, one of Orochimaru's test subjects, and was the only person capable of suppressing Jugo's killing instincts. After hearing that Kimimaro had died in Part I to ensure Sasuke Uchiha reached Orochimaru, Jugo believed that Kimimaro's spirit continued to live on in Sasuke.

History
Temari is the daughter of the Fourth Kazekage, as well as being teammate and sister to Gaara and Kankuro. She carries a giant, Tessen (iron fan) on her back, which she uses as a powerful ninja tool; she specializes in long-range combat, and has demonstrated herself to be a keen analyst (although not of the same caliber as Nara Shikamaru).Temari is generally caring, if crude, toward her siblings and cohorts, but has a tendency to be quite cruel to her opponents in battle. She is more demonstrative with her feelings than Kankuro when dealing with Gaara and somewhat less afraid of him. Shikamaru, after witnessing her fighting style first-hand, has stated that she is more terrifying than his own mother.
Temari basically fights using her fan. Her fan has three purple circles, which she calls stars, and each star revealed increases her fan's power greatly. She usually starts fighting with it closed, and then opens it up, revealing each star one by one until the third star is shown. Finally, she will finish her opponent using her main jutsu, Kamatachi no Jutsu (Cutting Whirlwind Technique), as it shown in her fight against Tenten. Temari also uses her fan as a thrusting tool or club, as in her fight against Nara Shikamaru.
Temari mainly uses her fan to create a large wind gust to cut her opponents apart or force them back. She can also create whirlwinds and tornadoes.

Sasuke Retrieval arc
When the situation looked hopeless for Shikamaru in his fight against Tayuya during the failed mission to retrieve the renegade Uchiha Sasuke, Temari came to his rescue. Her fan was able to reflect the sound waves right back to their caster. Her Kuchiyose: Kirikiri Mai (Summoning: Quick Beheading Dance) to summon Kamatari (a Kamaitachi or "Sickle Weasel"), tore up and devastated an entire forest, defeating Tayuya's strategy to hide and attack from a far distance.

Naruto Part II
Temari makes her Naruto II debut in Chapter 247. During Naruto's two and a half year absence, she has advanced to the level of Jounin. Temari is now acting as a liaison between Sunagakure and Konohagakure as they prepare for the new round of Chuunin examinations.
Upon hearing that Gaara had been kidnapped, she joins Team Kakashi and rushes back to the Hidden Sand. Upon reaching Sunagakure, Temari learns that Kankurō had been poisoned by Sasori as well. Sakura arrives in time and is able to heal him. As a result, Temari plans to join Team Kakashi in fighting Akatsuki However, Chiyo goes in her place, and Temari is left to see to the defense of Sunagakure instead. Later, Temari and a recovered Kankuro catch up to Naruto just as Chiyo performs her life-giving jutsu on Gaara, with the help of Naruto's chakra.

- A "Temari" is a traditional ball of wound thread that kids use to bounce and dribble. They can be highly elaborate, and some consider weaving them to be an art form.

Karasu (烏; Literally meaning "Crow") - The first of Kankuro's puppets to make an appearance, Karasu resembles a three-eyed, four-armed humanoid with jagged teeth and a spiky black hairstyle protruding from the top of its head and framing the sides. In Part I, Kankuro typically keeps Karasu wrapped in bandages on his back, and he is able to switch places with it at will using the Body Replacement Technique. Because of Kankuro's enjoyment in installing mechanisms into his puppets, Karasu is very offensive, having numerous concealed weapons, including poison-tipped darts and smokescreens in order to blind its opponents. The smokescreens can be made up of poisonous gas to serve a secondary purpose. Karasu is also able to detach any of its body parts for separate attacks. In the video games, Karasu is shown to be armed with a special flight mechanism that enables it to maneuver high into the air, where it could bomb targets from above.
Kuroari (黒蟻; Literally meaning "Black Ant") - The second of Kankuro's puppets to make an appearance, Kuroari has a much longer head than Karasu, with a bucket-shaped face sporting two red horns and six arms; its facial features include three eyes similar to Karasu and a dark, disheveled hairstyle. Its overall body frame somewhat resembles a large barrel. While Kuroari does not contain as many hidden weapons as Karasu, each of its arm segments contain a hidden saw-blade, which can be used to inflict large slicing wounds to opponents. Kuroari's primary function is to trap opponents within itself, while weapons enter the slots along its body to puncture the opponent. Like Karasu, Kuroari is able to detach any of its body parts for separate attacks.
Sanshōuo (山椒魚; Literally meaning "Salamander") - The third of Kankuro's puppets to make an appearance, Sanshōuo, unlike Kankuro's other puppets, stays true to its name and resembles a salamander. Its abilities are unseen in the manga, but in the anime, Sanshōuo is shown to have incredible defensive power: It has a frill that swings up to defend against attacks from the front, as well as the tail being able to tuck up to reach the frill and guard the rear, followed by an iron cloak immediately covering all sides, and a hollow body Kankuro and up to two other people can take cover in to defend against attacks coming from other directions.

Sasori (サソリ) - During the summit of the Five Kage and the following battle with Sasuke, Kankuro is seen wielding Sasori's puppet body donning a cloak. Kankuro has apparently modified the puppet, removing Sasori's heart container, the cable wound around its stomach, and the blades on its back. The flamethrower jets are still present in its palms. After detaching Sasori's head, Kankuro can fire knives from the neck, but it is unclear if this is a new feature.

Haruno Sakura (Sakura Haruno in the English anime) is a character in the manga and anime Naruto. In the beginning of the manga, she is a Genin student of Hatake Kakashi's, but she later becomes a Chuunin under Tsunade's guidance.
Sakura has a crush on Uchiha Sasuke. This appears to be her main characteristic up until advanced stages of the series. She's often self-conscious about the size of her forehead and got teased by being called "forehead girl" at school (Yamanaka Ino, Sakura's childhood friend and now rival for Sasuke's affections, continues this honourable tradition). During the Chūnin exam, Sakura realizes that in her infatuation with Sasuke, she has neglected her duties as a team member - this coincides with her chopping off most of her hair (which she grew long because she thinks Sasuke likes long hair), which an attacking Otogakure shinobi, Kin Tsuchi, used to hold her by, thus symbolically freeing herself from her previous restraining tunnel vision. She still has a way to go before she fully deals with and reconciles her infatuation, however. Sakura starts out extremely disliking Uzumaki Naruto (who has a crush on her much like her own crush on Sasuke), but slowly starts respecting him over the course of their being a team.
In her early school years, Sakura was timid and was occasionally made fun of and bullied. That was until the popular Ino approached her and became her friend. Sakura looked up to Ino's looks and ability a lot; while she appreciated Ino's friendship, she couldn't help the feelings of inferiority she induced in her, as if Ino was a fully-bloomed flower and Sakura only a bud. Their friendship continued until it became clear that both of them liked Sasuke, and Sakura felt that she could never equal Ino, let alone surpass her at anything, while she was trapping herself as Ino's mere sidekick in her mind. She handed Ino her ribbon back and proclaimed that they were rivals from that point on.
And bitter rivals they were, until the second stage of the Chūnin exam, where Ino witnessed Sakura cut her own hair - even though it was "known" (or rather believed by the girls) that Sasuke liked girls with long hair - to set herself free from her captor. It was the moment that both of them were simultaneously stricken with the fact that there are more important things than teenage romance. Later, when they tied on their battle in the third stage preliminaries, Ino told Sakura that she finally had blossomed, and- each acknowledging the other as her equal- they became friends again, although they snap into (mild) rivalry mode again whenever Sasuke is mentioned.
Sakura's main strengths are her intelligence and her great chakra control. She was able to climb trees using her chakra while it took days of constant training for Sasuke and Naruto to manage it. However, Sakura's weakness lies in her lack of stamina and overall talent. She has only used a few skills over the course of the series, the most advanced of which is Kai (Or Cancel, for dispelling Genjutsu). On the other hand, Kakashi does note at one point in the story, that Sakura has a talent for Genjutsu.
In the first stage of the Chūnin exam, she knew the answers to a test designed specifically to be so difficult for Genin to accomplish that they would have to cheat.
Inside Sakura resides the "Inner Sakura", which ridiculously seems to be much more mean-tempered than Naruto's Kyubi. "Inner Sakura" seems to represent an assertive part of her personality and serves mostly comedy purposes as Sakura's typical gentle responses are juxtaposed with the inner Sakura's constant Shannaro, which doesn't mean anything but is usually translated as "Hell yeah", "Hell no" or "Damn it" depending on the situation. Sakura's having 'two minds' actually came in handy when Ino hit her with the Shintenshin no Jutsu ("Art of the Valentine" or literally "Body Mind Switch Technique"), Inner Sakura combating Ino's spirit where in the case of a regular person there would be no resistance. The same occurs in the manga after one of Naruto's inspirational comments causes Sakura's inner self to awaken and subsequently defeat the Art of the Valentine.
Currently, she is training under the Godaime Hokage Tsunade, as a ninja medic. This means that each of Team Seven (Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke) are now training with each of the legendary Sannin (Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru). This causes some to speculate that the three young ninjas will become the successors to the old Sannin.
Sakura, being trained by Tsunade, has learnt the Fifth Hokage's well-known "monstrous strength". After three months of training Sakura's progress makes Tsunade think that Sakura has the greatest talent in Medical ninjutsu she's seen since Shizune. Sakura's talent in medical ninjutsu and genjutsu and her amazing strength and progress in taijutsu and ninjutsu makes Kakashi think she might even surpass Tsunade. She is currently a Chūnin.
In the Naruto II arc, Sakura's skill and personality are shown to have changed drastically. She has developed an antidote for Sasori's poison which she used to save Kankurō's life, and which proved vital during the battle with Sasori.

Trivia
- The name "Haruno" means "spring field". A spring field can be cultivated and orderly or it can be wild, like how Sakura's personality is. "Sakura" means "cherry blossom", which represents loyalty, love, and samurai, in addition to being the national flower of Japan.
- Sakura Haruno shares the same name as Wandaba Style's bratty nursery rhyme singer.

Uzumaki Naruto (Naruto Uzumaki in the English anime) is the main character of the manga and anime series Naruto. He is a student of Hatake Kakashi's and later of Jiraiya.
History
Little is known about Naruto's birth or parentage, and it is very probable that he has no living relatives at all. What is known, however, is that around the time his mother was about to give birth to him, the Nine-tails Demon Fox, or Kyūbi no Yōko, attacked his village, Konohagakure (Hidden Leaf) and the Yondaime Hokage (Fourth Hokage) decided to seal the demon away with a forbidden technique inside him, sacrificing his life in the process. Yondaime's wish was for Naruto to be remembered as a hero by the people of the village.

Things, unfortunately for him, definitely did not turn out that way. The people of the village needed something to blame and channel their bitterness and loss onto, and he was the perfect candidate. The adults of the village, without known exceptions, knew him and treated him as nothing more than the demon fox that has attacked the village; As a result he grew up alone and isolated. It is implied in the manga that he went through very difficult emotional times and often shed many tears, but kept reprimanding himself for doing so and telling himself nothing would be achieved by crying. Eventually he developed into the loudmouth, hyperactive prankster he was at the start of the manga, though as the Third Hokage (Sandaime) observed (and even Naruto himself, in a moment of rare enlightenment, once admitted this), it is only an act to cover up for his deep insecurity in a desperate plight for recognition.

By chance or fate, Umino Iruka, who had felt much of the same desperation as Naruto in his younger years, was Naruto's teacher, and he was the first person to recognize Naruto as a human being and ninja, and not just as a stupid screwup or the Nine-Tails. Naruto, at one point, says that when he is with Iruka, he often wonders whether that is what being with a father is like.

Personality and characteristics
Naruto is very determined and has very strong values that he never once fails to act by, even in hopeless situations. His dream is to become Hokage, as it is the epitome of his ambitions to have the village acknowledge him and live for the sake of protecting his important people.
Naruto has a knack for inspiring people to realise their potentials and resolve to work harder or change their ways for the better; his determination and resolve often earn him sympathy from other characters. One early example of this is Konohamaru, the grandson of the third Hokage, who was inspired by Naruto to stop trying to find shortcuts to becoming Hokage, as there are no shortcuts and the only way is paved with plenty of hard work. Another is Inari, whom Naruto helped by making him see that anyone can make a difference and by confronting him about his refusal to come to terms with his painful past (as Naruto's past was similarly tragic). Both of them have gotten very attached to Naruto and have taken to calling him Onii-chan (big brother).
Though he is naturally impetuous, hyperactive and tends to rush into combat without thinking, Naruto is capable of devising some quite clever plans by creative usage of his jutsu. He has more than once upstaged what looked like a superior opponent by exploiting the element of surprise an unconventional usage of a technique entails; Kakashi even dubs him the "number one ninja in surprising people". Another main driving force behind his otherwise average Taijutsu and Ninjutsu abilities is the huge power and chakra reserves of the Kyūbi. Kyūbi is by no stretch of the imagination a particularly pleasant character, but nevertheless does everything in his power to help Naruto - lending chakra as requested, healing Naruto with his extreme healing ability and so forth - if only for the fact that Naruto's death would apparently mean the Kyūbi's death as well.
There are downsides to the huge chakra load that is Kyūbi; like most of the biggest weapons, it can't be lifted, let alone wielded, with ease. Naruto is a relatively small container that cannot quite handle the whole of Kyūbi's chakra, which might account for Naruto's inability to control and focus chakra consistently for jutsu during his days at the academy. Even later, when Naruto learns to better control his chakra, any technique relying on Kyūbi's chakra to work properly runs a chance of failing, as it takes great conviction or control on Naruto's part to draw Kyūbi's chakra effectively. However, Naruto's Chakra and Kyūbi's chakra are slowly fusing and are expected to eventually become one, which is bound to drastically change this status-quo.

Ninja academy
Up to his academy graduation, Naruto has precious little of the acknowledgement and empathy he seeks. His sensei, Umino Iruka, and to a lesser extent the Third Hokage, are the only positive influence on him in that respect (though Hyūga Hinata thinks very highly of him as well she never actually gathers the courage to address him). He neglects his academy studies so much that he repeatedly fails to graduate (though the Bunshin no Jutsu, the one he is worst at, being the final test every year doesn't help much). That is until he is manipulated to steal the scroll of seals (a scroll belonging to the village containing forbidden techniques) by Mizuki. During the short conflict between Mizuki and Iruka, Naruto acquires his signature technique, Kage Bunshin no Jutsu, by learning it from the scroll. When he demonstrates usage of this technique, Iruka passes him and congratulates him on graduating.
While labeled as dumb at the academy, Naruto shows surprising talent in unexpected areas and often comes up with inventive solutions and strategies. Later in the series, Naruto manages to learn the Rasengan, a technique that took the fourth Hokage three years to develop, in just a month (he takes a couple of days for the first step, three weeks for the second, and one week for the third). An example of Naruto's inventiveness is shown here -- he lacks the chakra control required to execute the technique using only one hand, but he settles for an inferior delivery method which is slower and requires another hand (either by occupying his other one or using a kage bunshin). While not on par with the original, Naruto's version is still very effective.
Later in the manga, Naruto is seen to be able to use Rasengan with only one hand (though this might be a misinterpretation due to the graphic limitations of manga). Early in the Naruto II arc while out to rescue Gaara, Naruto uses a new version of Rasengan called Odama Rasengan- essentially two combined Rasengan spheres from him and a clone requiring only one hand of each, again suggesting that he is now capable of executing Rasengan as originally intended.

Team 7
In order to become a genin, in addition to graduating from the Ninja Academy, one must first undergo an evaluation with a Jōnin; if one passes, they will be assigned to that Jonin for training. Naruto, Haruno Sakura (his crush) and Uchiha Sasuke (her crush) are assigned to Team 7 under the leadership of Hatake Kakashi. The evaluation test is simple. There are three members and two bells: the two who manage to put their hands on a bell win and are awarded with food, and the one who is left out remains hungry. Kakashi easily defends himself from all three, and after a while calls a break and points out their flaws in teamwork; he lets Sakura and Sasuke eat so they can all try again later, but forbids them to feed Naruto, who is also tied to a log for good measure. Sakura and Sasuke decide to go against Kakashi's words and feed Naruto anyway, figuring that if the problem is their teamwork this would be a good way to start working on it; Team 7 thus becomes the first group that Kakashi ever passed to be Genin, as this is exactly the message he was trying to get across - caring for your friends is more important than "the rules".
Though Genin are only supposed to go on D-Rank missions, Naruto insists on doing something more exciting and the Sandaime Hokage agrees to send them on a C-Rank mission to escort a client. During their mission, the team is attacked by two enemy Chūnin- something that is definitely not supposed to happen on C-Rank missions- and Naruto panics and freezes; Sasuke however deals with the attackers quite efficiently. Sasuke rubs his one-upping Naruto in by calling him a "Scaredy-cat"; this name-calling, which Naruto would imitate many times later in the series, is a defining moment in the Naruto-Sasuke rivalry. Team 7 also undergoes chakra training in this arc of the manga, another point of rivalry between the two ninja, as they constantly challenge themselves to try to outdo each other, but instead end up helping and motivating each other to succeed.

Naruto's "hidden power" is also revealed in this arc. In a particularly ferocious battle in which he believes Sasuke has been killed, Naruto loses control and is consumed by Kyūbi's chakra. Its power is so immense that the chakra is visible, all of Naruto's wounds heal near-instantaneously, and Naruto's appearance changes. He completely overwhelms his enemy with this power and speed. Although the power of the Kyūbi is introduced at this point, the full extent of it is not shown yet. Naruto has not communicated with the Demon Fox inside of him; he only subconsciously calls upon this power.
After his graduation, Naruto gradually becomes more acknowledged and appreciated, as more and more people come in contact with the real Naruto behind the "demon" and "idiot prankster" stigmas. From his previous state of isolation he develops friendships with all sorts of people; his relationship with Sasuke grows into a mix of friendship and rivalry, eventually escalating into very strong friendship and a rivalry of epic proportions, while Haruno Sakura's role slowly develops from that of Naruto's mere crush into that of his important friend.

Chuunin exam
Team 7 returns to Konoha to continue with their lives as regular Genin, accomplishing menial missions. Eventually, whilst playing with Konohamaru and his friends, Naruto meets with two of the three Genin from Sunagakure (Hidden Sand), Kankurō and Temari and shortly learns the reason for their presence; Chūnin Selection Exams are in effect. Naruto is thrilled about the possibility of becoming a Chūnin, and though he fails to, various events during the exams drastically affect his ability and enrich his social relations (much later in the manga, when Naruto reminisces on how he was alone but slowly more and more people became his friends, we see a growing line which first contains Iruka, Kakashi, Sasuke and Sakura, and later expands to include people he met on the Chūnin exam).
During the exam, Naruto finds himself for the first time in a truly desperate situation, up against Orochimaru - an S-ranked criminal so powerful that the third Hokage later mentions that there is nobody in the hidden Leaf Village that can fight him equally (even he himself, he admits, cannot). Naruto and Sasuke's reactions to the situation are a complete reversal of what happened in their previous mission - Sasuke is paralyzed with panic while Naruto fights on fearlessly, at one point stopping Orochimaru's huge summoned snake in its tracks on his own, and muttering to Sasuke, in a a moment of glorious comeuppance that marks another milestone in their rivalry, "are you all right... scaredy-cat?". Naruto eventually snaps Sasuke out of his panic, and when Naruto is knocked out Sasuke continues to fight Orochimaru.

Naruto vastly improves in ability during the three stages of the Chuunin exam; beside winning his first true fight (against Kiba) by having shadow replications perform a combo attack, he improves his chakra control by practicing walking on water, learns how to call upon Kyūbi's energy at will and how to use the summoning technique to call a toad to his aid (the former skill essential for the usability of the latter, as without Kyūbi's chakra his summons are generally not much more than tadpoles). He uses these skills to a powerful effect in later battles, and at the climax of the arc triumphs against Gaara, an opponent Sasuke could not face equally, thus reversing their roles and inducing in Sasuke deep feelings of inferiority - though Sasuke still attempts to maintain the same attitude in front of Naruto, in an attempt to cling to his former superiority. At an early point Naruto tells Sasuke that he wants to fight him during the exam; Sasuke acknowledges Naruto in his own way later on when he tells him that he wants to fight him as well.
In the month between the third stage preliminary matches and the third stage main matches, Naruto meets Jiraiya - one of Konoha's legendary three - for the first time. Jiraiya agrees to be his sensei and is the one who teaches him most of the advanced techniques he learns during that time. He also undergoes a brief training period under Ebisu, who earlier saw him as nothing more than the container of the demon fox but after spending some time with him decides that he is indeed a true ninja of the leaf.
Naruto's defining trait of being extremely spirited and never giving up is further emphasised in this arc. During the written test part, when given a choice between taking a question or not taking a question - when not taking it would mean failing the exam, and taking it but not answering correctly would mean failing and staying a genin forever - he not only chooses to take the question but proclaims his resolve to will himself to be Hokage even if he stays a genin forever loudly, inspiring many people in the room to do the same (in a twist, it later turns out that the whole point of the "question" was to see who was fit and who wasn't fit for being a chūnin, an occupation in which one does not have a choice of whether to undertake missions which risk everything or not, and Naruto has answered correctly by merely deciding to confront it). He also faces up with determination to Hyūga Neji and Gaara - Two opponents that, he frankly admits to himself often at various points during the arc, terrify him.
Naruto's encounters during the Chūnin exam arc are characterized by Naruto relating to or opposing to sentiments and outlooks on life, and it is through this relation that he makes many new friends (and on three different occasions, by defeating an enemy). He gradually bonds with Rock Lee, a Taijutsu expert, who represents the ideal of hard work prevailing against all odds and stands up against the much more powerful Gaara during the third stage preliminary exams even while unconscious. Naruto deeply identifies with Lee and feels very sorry for him when Gaara beats him (since he does such a thorough job as to, according to the doctors' first impressions, permanently cripple Lee.)
Another contrast that deeply affects Naruto is the clash between Hyūga Hinata, the forsaken heir of the Hyūga clan head house, and Hyūga Neji, her cousin, who is much stronger but will never be the heir because he is a part of the branch house. Naruto watches the start of the fight with little knowledge of either fighters (apart from that Hinata is a nice person, as she offered to let him copy off of her paper in the written test stage and offered him medicine immediately after his fight with Inuzuka Kiba); however about a minute later, after Hinata mumbles quietly that she just wanted to change herself and Neji lectures her about the supreme rule of destiny and how people cannot change, Naruto is already shouting into the stadium for Hinata to stand up for herself. She loses the fight, much like Lee loses his own fight with Gaara - still standing at a point where she should technically be dead; when she finally goes down, Naruto is so overwhelmed with sympathy for her predicament and antagonism for Neji's attitude that he closes his punch around her overflowing blood and flings it at Neji, promising to her that he will beat the Hyūga prodigy himself.

Naruto's fight with Neji a month later is a very dramatic one. As techniques are used and advantages are gained and nullified, Neji lectures Naruto much like he did earlier with Hinata, telling him that dropouts remain dropouts and cannot change. Naruto suffers somewhat of an emotional impact when Neji gives him a speech about the Hokages being people who were destined to become ones, and how one cannot become one just because they want to; Ultimately, however, he would have none of it and keeps confronting Neji about his attitude, until Neji tells him of the tragedy of his father's death and the Hyūga fate of hatred. Naruto eventually wins the battle through sheer motivation and believing in victory, and in the process changes Neji's outlook on life one-hundred and eighty degrees, inspiring him to create his own fate and forming another important bond ("Stop talking about fate and how it can't be changed," says Naruto sardonically, "you're not like me. You're not a dropout.")
The climax of the arc is Naruto's battle with Gaara. Gaara represents the opposite reaction to Naruto's very predicament than the one Naruto had; Naruto looked for acknowledgement and attention to form his identity, while Gaara built more and more walls around himself, eventually concluding that his purpose in life was to kill everybody that was not him. At first Naruto is clearly outpowered, but later in the fight he gains more ground by using clever tactics and employing the techniques Jiraiya taught him. Most of all what enables him to triumph is his devotion to his important people, which turns out to be a source of much greater strength of Gaara's hatred, contrary to Naruto's first impression that Gaara's state of mind makes him somebody he could not possibly face.
After the battle ends, Gaara wonders whether he'd be able to love again, and appears later in the series as a positive character and another important friend Naruto has made during this arc.

Sasuke arc
Naruto's influence on Sasuke, though profound, is powerless to prevent Sasuke from deciding to become a Nukenin (Missing-nin) and leaving the leaf to receive training from Orochimaru. Sasuke's decision to leave is the result of a chain of events that rekindles his hatred and desire to avenge his clan so much that it overshadows all other influences in his life. This experience is traumatic to Naruto, as he has promised Sakura to bring Sasuke back and this is the first time he is unable to live up to something he promised to an important person. Unlike Jiraiya, however, who from his own experience with Orochimaru believes that Sasuke is too far gone and that Naruto should forget about him and concentrate on his own survival, Naruto believes that there is hope for Sasuke yet. He tells Sakura that he will, one day, bring Sasuke back to the village and live up to his promise.

Naruto II arc
After this failed attempt to retrieve Sasuke, Naruto learns that circumstances have granted him a 3-year window to prepare himself for when the time comes to face Orochimaru (who has switched bodies prematurely and now has to wait 3 years before executing his original plan of transferring into Sasuke) and defend himself against additional kidnap attempts from the shady organisation Akatsuki (who, according to Jiraiya's information sources and for reasons unknown, halt their plans to attempt capturing Naruto for three years). Naruto takes this opportunity for intensive training under Jiraiya, as does Sakura under Tsunade. As Jiraiya was the Fourth's sensei, this places Naruto in a very good position to actually fulfill his dream to become Hokage or at least a ninja of great renown, as most legendary ninjas and hokages are closely tied to one another through student-teacher relations (though she does not tell him this, Tsunade is already certain he will grow up to become Hokage).
When Naruto returns to the village two and a half years later he finds out, much to his chagrin, that he is the only one of his former-Genin social circle (known as the "Rookie 9") who is still a Genin. During his absence, the rest have become Chūnin (and Hyūga Neji even made Jōnin).
In this new arc of the story, dubbed Naruto II, we see the growth of all of the characters, including Naruto. Naruto shows physical growth, sports a new outfit, and appears to not only have increased in strength and techniques, but intelligence as well (the pervertedness of his Sensei also seems to have slightly rubbed off on him). He has little time, however, to wander the village and greet all his old friends, as the Hokage sends him, Sakura and Kakashi on yet another rescue mission, this time to retrieve the helpless Gaara (who, to Naruto's utter awe, has become the fifth Kazekage during his absence) from the hands of Akatsuki, who plan to extract the sealed demon from him for purposes yet unknown. Jiraiya's information sources indicate that Akatsuki has been growing impatient with their lack of success capturing Naruto, and thus this clash with Akatsuki seems to have been inevitable.

Naruto, along with Sakura, Kakashi, Team Gai, and Chiyo, go on a mission to rescue the recently-captured Gaara from the Akatsuki. They are first confronted by Itachi and Kisame, who turn out to be body substitutes by means of Shoten no Jutsu (Shapeshifting Technique), and defeat them. Upon arrival at the grotto where Gaara is being held, the group figures out that a barrier jutsu seals off the entrance. To facilitate entry, Team Gai goes to remove four seals scattered in the area; doing so creates clones of them which copy their every movement. Meanwhile, Naruto and Kakashi decide to confront Deidara while Chiyo and Sakura face Sasori. Both pairs defeat the Akatsuki members, and Gai and company defeat their clones, with help from Neji.
Upon retrieving Gaara from Deidara's clay bird, Naruto undergoes the second-stage Kyūbi transformation, which he used against Sasuke. Because Kakashi knew how to contain Naruto's further transformation using a special seal he received from Jiraiya, it has been implied that Jiraiya also witnessed Naruto's transformation during the last three years.

Trivia
- The surname "Uzumaki" translates to "spiral". The Konoha leaf symbol is drawn with an arrow attached to a spiral, the seal on his abdomen is a spiral, and one of his attacks is Rasengan which means "Spiralling Sphere". One wonders if the spirals surrounding Naruto are a reflection of the main character, or if Naruto's last name is a reflection of the spirals of his village. For Uzumaki may be a generic last name representing the village given to those without a family name.
- "Uzumaki" can also mean "whirlpool". The Naruto whirlpool, named after the city of Naruto, lies between said city and Awaji Island.
- Naruto can mean "maelstrom", and is also the name for a sliced stick of Kamaboko with a pink whirlpool design in the middle which is used as a topping for Ramen (Naruto's favorite food). The Japanese sometimes use it as a nickname for the commercial at (@).
- The Kitsune is a well-known character in Japanese myth, and the influence behind not only the Demon Fox a.k.a. the Kyūbi but many other reincarnations in modern Japanese culture. It likes to play tricks and pranks on people, and on occasions transforms itself into a beautiful woman and seduces a man (obviously the inspiration for Ninja Centerfold (Oiroke no Jutsu, literally Sexy Technique), which is often called "Sexy no Jutsu" by people in the North American Naruto fanbase). Foxes are also known to be especially fierce and resourceful when pushed into a corner, and can even kill a hound or other powerful animals, something which also reflects Naruto's determination. It should also be noted that every time Naruto loses control and is overwhelmed by the Kyuubi's chakra, he seemingly gains another "tail" of chakra. This stems from the Japanese myth that when kitsune reach 100 years, they gain an additional tail, as well as increased powers and intelligence; their powers and number of tails continue to grow every 100 years until the age of 1000 when they receive the ninth and final tail and incredible powers which in some versions even reach up to immortality. The Kyuubi's powers are limited to seep through to how much Naruto can take, though it seems that this limit is severely stretched the older Naruto gets, and will probably be broken altogether when their chakra finishes melding.
- October 10, Naruto's birthday, was "Taiiku no hi" (Health and Sports Day) in Japan when his character was conceived - a holiday full of physical activity fit for a hyperactive kid. The holiday, however, was moved to the second Monday of October during 1999.
- According to the Game Boy Advance game Naruto: Konoha Senki one of Naruto's hobbies is gardening and he is the one who gives Kakashi Mr Ukki, the plant seen on Kakashi's windowsill. According to the official databooks his hobbies are playing pranks and watering plants.

Gaara is a character in the manga and anime Naruto. He is known as Gaara of the Sand in the Viz translation, and Sabaku no Gaara (Gaara of the Desert) in the original Japanese.

Biography
Gaara is the youngest son of the Fourth Kazekage, thus having Temari and Kankuro as his older siblings. Because of Sunagakures weakened state, the Fourth Kazekage ordered one of Suna’s elders, Chiyo, to use a possession jutsu to seal the Ichibi Shukaku into Gaara. Because of this possession, Gaara’s mother, Karura, died while giving birth. Before she died, Karura cursed Suna, hoping Gaara would avenge her death.
Gaara was raised mainly by his uncle, Yashamaru. For six years, Gaara, being feared by his family and the other villagers, believed Yashamaru was the only one who loved him. However, when Gaara was six years old, Yashamaru was ordered to assassinate Gaara by Gaara’s father the Kazekage. However, Gaara killed the assassin before he knew the assassin was in fact Yashamaru. Before he died, Yashamaru revealed to Gaara that he never did love him. In fact, Yashamaru always resented Gaara for taking away the life of his beloved sister and Gaara’s mother, Karura. Yashamaru also reveals Gaara's namesake: a demon that fought only for himself. Gaara's mother had resented the village for using her and her son as a sacrifice for a weapon, and wished that Gaara would live, for nothing else but to curse the village that had created him. After realizing nobody loved him, Gaara used his sand to create the tattoo on his forehead, (ai, "love"), as a symbol of a "demon loving only himself." For the next 6 years, Gaara has been the victim of almost constant assassination attempts, all ordered by his father.
Gaara was to play a major part in the attack on Konohagakure (Konoha), which was engineered by Orochimaru. The plan was to release Shukaku inside Konoha simultaneously with Orochimaru's giant snakes spearheading an attack from outside, but Shukaku proved to be too unpredictable. He was then defeated in battle by Uzumaki Naruto. Naruto puzzled Gaara by fighting for those he cared about. While the battle technically ended in a draw, what surprised Gaara was Naruto's undying devotion to his friends. Upon witnessing Naruto literally inch and crawl his way to make sure Gaara is defeated while they were both on the ground, Gaara realized that Naruto's strength comes from the desire to protect his precious friends. As Gaara and his siblings fled, Gaara apologized to them, which brought out surprised looks from each.
Gaara later appeared as an ally, after the Fifth Hokage asked them to assist the team sent to retrieve Uchiha Sasuke. Gaara arrived in time to rescue Rock Lee from Kimimaro. After the mission ended in failure, Gaara and his siblings returned home to Sunagakure.
When Uzumaki Naruto returned to Konohagakure after his two and a half year training under Jiraiya, he was shocked to find that Gaara had become Kazekage. Gaara defended his village from an attack by Akatsuki who were actually after the Shukaku. Gaara was defeated by Deidara, captured and Shukaku was extracted from his body. This led to his death, but Chiyo was able to use her life-restoring technique (and the help of Naruto's chakra) to bring Gaara back to life at the cost of her own. It has been comfirmed that he can still control sand and use sand-based attacks, but his fighting strength sans-Shukaku remains untested.
In the manga, Gaara seems to have fangirls (shown after his resurrection), much to the chagrin of Naruto.

Personality and Ability
Because of the demon inside of him, Gaara is feared and hated by his entire village. This in turn has made Gaara hate everybody but himself. Gaara had lost all emotion years ago and filled the gap with the unrelenting goal of killing anybody in the world that was not himself. To Gaara, killing is the only way he can verify his existence. His insomnia, forced upon him by the fact that the demon inside him would eat away at his personality if he were to fall asleep, made his personality further unstable.
In fact, the main problem Gaara faces in life is almost idetical to Naruto's, albeid a more unfortunate one. Loneliness and the desire to be liked, loved and to be acknowledged as an individual(this means they want to be free of prejudices - they are themselves, not the demons they were forced to "contain") drives both into a desperate state, where Naruto develops the misconception of the need of mischiefs to draw attention(more precisely: recognition), and at the same time Gaara comes to the conclusion, that if people don't care about him, there is the way of murdering everybody he comes across to verify his own existence as a human being. Before that, they both tried to show their good side, being cheerful(in NAruto's case over-energetic), kind and caring, with absolutely no success. Gaara was rejected when he wanted to play with other children, and hurt one of the girls unintentionally with the sand(he didn't want to be left alone, that's why he grabbed them unconsciously). Later, ha was again rejected when he wanted to help the girl heal - he bought oinment, but she slammed the door and called Gaara "bakemono". Such bitter experiences were common. In the end, both Naruto and Gaara turned to the better, if not the best(Naruto with the help of Iruka Sensei and the Team 7, Gaara with the unintentional help of Naruto).

Thanks to Shukaku, Gaara has the ability to control sand. The sand also protects him from harm, even against his will, using Suna no Tate (Shield of Sand). This makes Gaara almost unable to use Taijutsu. Gaara almost always carries a gourd on his back. However, instead of water being carried in it, the gourd contains sand soaked in the blood of his enemies and enhanced with chakra. Although Gaara can control any sand, and can even make sand himself, using the minerals in the ground, he can control the sand in his gourd best. With this sand, not only does Gaara always have his own sand supply, his attacks also increase in both speed and power.
Gaara's jutsu are all sand-based and, although most are simple offensive and defensive jutsu, can be used for a variety of purposes, including floating in the air (Sabaku Fuyū (Desert Suspension)) and spying (Daisan no Me (Third Eye)). While fighting, Gaara often uses a combination of Sabakukyu (The Coffin of Crushing Sand) followed by Sabakusoso (Imploding Sand Funeral). Although most of his attacks are small scale, Gaara can wreak havoc with his Ryusa Bakuryū (Quicksand in the Style of a Waterfall).
Gaara's main defense is his Suna no Tate (Shield of Sand). This shield protects Gaara from all harm, even against his will, but can still be defeated with great enough speed and strength. If his Suna no Tate fails, Gaara still has his Suna no Yoroi (Armour of Sand). This is a layer of highly compacted sand, wrapped around Gaara's body. Although it gives Gaara an almost ultimate defense, it takes a large toll on Gaara's chakra and stamina, and it also slows Gaara down.

Trivia
- The name "Gaara" is made up of three Kanji, "Ga" (meaning I or me), "A" (more commonly "Ai" meaning love), and "Ra" (used here to mean a demon). Added together, they can mean, "I only love myself. I'm a demon." which really explains what kind of character he is.
- The Viz English manga misspelled his name as "Gara" when the character first appeared in the pages of the United States Shonen Jump. This error has been corrected in the graphic novels.
- Gaara is a Persian word for an extremely sour confection. Though Iran also happens to be very arid, it's just an interesting coincidence.

As a Genin, Shikamaru Nara was the sort of unenthusiastic kid who liked to watch clouds. He preferred not to get involved in "troublesome" activities, pretending to be busy to avoid responsibility. He is fully aware of this side of his personality. He even named himself "the number one at running away" or "the number one coward". In fact, his most commonly used phrase is "how troublesome" in the Japanese version, and "what a drag" in the English version.

However, when duty calls, Shikamaru has a strong moral compass and sense of commitment to his comrades. Even though, by his own testimony, he lacks bravery, he will sacrifice himself and face almost certain death for the sake of his friends or villagers without a second thought. Because of his raw leadership skill, he was the first Genin from the rookie 9 to become a Chūnin. The weight of the decisions he must make as a Chūnin and, thus, team leader have caused Shikamaru to mature rapidly. This was most evident after the death of Asuma. He vowed to protect and later mentor Asuma's unborn child, so that he could grow up to be a "cool adult" like Asuma. Shikamaru's sense of duty and commitment to the future of his village is also reflected in his willingness to enforce Konoha 11's recent decision to stop Sasuke at all costs, even in the face of potential objections on behalf of the original members of Team 7.

Shikamaru loves to play thinking games that older men are usually into, such as Shogi and Go (His teacher, Asuma, even said at one point "That kid is like an old man. He likes to take things slowly"). He is a brilliant strategist. The Hokage often seeks his advice on defense strategies. Although his former sensei, Asuma Sarutobi, often played against Shikamaru, Asuma had never actually managed to beat him. Asuma became suspicious upon realizing that Shikamaru was so good at board games, despite his abysmal grades. As a result, Asuma administered an IQ test disguised as a game to Shikamaru, which revealed that Shikamaru was beyond a genius, with an IQ of over 200. Sakura once states Shikamaru as being the smartest person in the Fire Country. During the Chūnin exams, even the Daimyo was impressed by his intelligence and offered him a position as his personal guard.

Shikamaru's most distinctive character trait is that he considers most women bossy and "troublesome", particularly Temari, his mother, and Ino. He usually defines them as aggressive, demanding, and sometimes even scary. Given his mother's tyrannical personality, this isn't too surprising. However, his father shares the exact same attitude, even though he married Yoshino in the first place. When Shikamaru questioned his father about why he would marry such a domineering woman, his father responded that even the toughest woman will show her gentle side to the man she loves. Nevertheless, Shikamaru is generally courteous to women, doing them favors and avoiding fights with them. He feels that men, like him, should be the ones protecting them and not the other way around. Despite the latter point, he exclusively fought against women during Part I of the manga.

He has expressed a notably mature interest in marriage and raising a family. He hopes to "marry a regular girl who isn't too ugly and not too pretty. Have two children, first a girl, then a boy. Retire after my daughter is married and my son becomes a successful ninja, and spend the rest of my life playing Shogi or Go. Then die of old age before my wife."

Shikamaru has shown a little devious sign. When he gets food for Chōji while he's in the hospital during the Chunin exams, the nurse tells him that Chōji has indigestion and that he can't have food. So, Shikamaru goes to Naruto's room to give him the food. When Naruto tells Shikamaru he wants to eat it in front of Chōji to annoy him Shikamaru states "evil... I like it."

HISTORY

Shikamaru has a long-standing friendship with Chōji Akimichi. They met even before joining the Ninja Academy. When others ridiculed Chōji for his weight, Shikamaru instead chose to recognize his strength and worth as a person. Because of the kindness Shikamaru has always shown him, Chōji is unquestioningly loyal to him, and will gladly give his life for Shikamaru.

Once they entered the Academy, Shikamaru and Chōji were, among their classes, "dead-lasts", along with Kiba Inuzuka and Naruto Uzumaki, spending their day pursuing more interesting pastimes. In Shikamaru's case, he would spend all day sleeping; to Shikamaru, even the very effort of putting pen-to-paper was just too much effort for him to put into it unless he had to. Iruka, their instructor, would give them all the same condemnation.

Nara Shikamaru is your typical laid-back and easy-going ninja, who loves to sleep, go cloud-watching or enjoys a game of ’shougi’. However first impressions aside, Nara Shikamaru is not your average ninja to be underestimated.

Hello, I'm doing individual character biographies. As most of you know, I hate the living crap out of Sasuke, so I'll eliminate the worst character in the series so I never have to think about him ever again.

Uchiha Sasuke (Sasuke Uchiha in the English anime) is a character in the manga and anime Naruto.
A Genin level Ninja, Sasuke is the natural genius offspring of the once powerful Uchiha Clan. One of the most outstanding clans in Konohagakure, the Uchiha Family was known for its Bloodline Limit ability, the Sharingan, and formed much of the Konohagakure's village police force. Sasuke along with his brother Itachi are the only two known remaining survivors of the clan.
Early Childhood
The second son of a Konohagakure police captain, Sasuke grew up in the shadow of his older brother, Itachi, who was acknowledged as a prodigy, mastering the Sharingan by the age of 8, attaining Chūnin rank at the age of 10, and becoming an ANBU captain at the age of 13. As a result, the Uchiha clan took great pride and interest in Itachi and viewed him as a genius whose work will further strengthen the bonds between the village and the clan. In particular, Sasuke's father took an active interest in Itachi's career and his entry into ANBU, largely neglecting Sasuke, the younger son, aside from cursory inquiries into Sasuke's school life. While Sasuke looked up to his brother, aspiring to become a prodigy ninja also acknowledged by the clan and his father, Itachi seemed friendly yet distant. Despite his promises to Sasuke to spend quality time, his work seemed to cause him to break his promises.
After an incident between Itachi and other Uchiha clan members, relations between Itachi and Sasuke's father deteriorate. Itachi's behavior becomes increasingly bizarre, estranging him further from other members of the Uchiha clan. During this time, Sasuke's father, on a whim, decides to spend time with Sasuke, teaching him Katon: Gōkakyu no Jutsu (Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique). Sasuke eventually succeeds in performing the jutsu in front of his father, surprising him. At that moment, Sasuke finally receives his father's recognition and the right to wear the clan's emblem on his back, a sign of adulthood. He also receives a stern warning not to follow in Itachi's footsteps.
One day, on the way home from shuriken practice, Sasuke is horrified to find his entire clan massacred by Itachi, who wanted to test his "capacity". Confronting Itachi in their home, his broken, sobbing self is further subjected to intense psychological torture by Mangekyo Sharingan. Itachi tells him to use his hatred of him to grow stronger: "If you wish to kill me, hate me, detest me, and survive in an unsightly way. Run, run and cling to life. And one day, when you have the same eyes as me, come before me."

At the Ninja Academy
Driven to match Itachi and later to kill him, Sasuke excelled in every field of study at the Ninja academy, becoming the #1 Academy ninja and the #1 Rookie Genin of that year. Handsome, extremely talented and from a pedigree background, Sasuke is the most popular student in his class, especially among the girls. However, he is admired from afar and he seems not to have had any personal relationships or any close friends in his Academy years, nor was he interested in these relationships to begin with. Even his relationship with Naruto at that stage is merely that of plain dislike, with nothing more than seeds of slight rivalry, intrigue and identification.

His ambitions
The two things he is interested as explained in his introduction to his Genin team are the resurrection of his clan and the killing of "a certain man", his brother, Itachi, in a hardly unjustified plight for vengeance. These ambitions under the shadow of his trauma and the endless admiration showered upon him had largely forged his character: arrogant, even-minded, apathetic to human inquiry and fixated on revenge at all costs. It is not until his prolonged exposure to Naruto's comradeship that this disposition changes.

Sasuke and Naruto
Naruto and Sasuke are forced to cooperate against their will when they were both put in Team 7 together with Haruno Sakura, who has a huge crush on Sasuke. Naruto initially has a one-sided rivalry with Sasuke, because Naruto aspires to be what Sasuke appears to be, but Naruto was unable to obtain during his time at the Ninja Academy; Unlike Naruto, Sasuke has received recognition for his talent, popularity and admiration while Naruto received ridicule for his apparent lack of ninja talent, and was shunned or scorned otherwise. Sasuke initially looks upon Naruto and his admirer, Sakura, with an equal smug distaste, viewing them as annoyances who would only get in the way. His loner attitude is one of the negative factors responsible for Team 7's initial state of borderline non-existent teamwork, which Kakashi notes and berates him for; however, their relationship slowly shifts from an incompatible mix of frustration and dislike into a mutually positive rivalry. While Sasuke appears to always be one step ahead to Naruto, Sasuke sees Naruto as constantly gaining ground each moment, which results in a state where they push and motivate each other to improve.

Sasuke makes it a point to taunt Naruto on occasion, goading and egging on Naruto with his air of superiority. However, a bond between the two and Sakura forms and Sasuke gradually learns the value of teamwork. As he does, he eventually begins to learn to trust and pushes his thoughts of revenge into the recesses of his mind.
This does not please Orochimaru, who is interested in Sasuke as his potential next body, or more specifically the Sharingan Sasuke has. He decides that it is imperative to somehow counter Naruto's influence on Sasuke and "dye him his own color". To advance this cause he puts his curse seal on Sasuke during the second stage of the Chūnin exam; Sasuke turns out to be strong enough to survive the nine out of ten chance of immediate death and regains consciousness, but the influence of the curse seal is far from over. Just by releasing Chakra the curse becomes active and forcibly pulls out more Chakra, corroding his body and his free will. At this point the small mark on the neck grows to wrap around Sasuke's whole body, like a strange black rash.
Sasuke's willpower is surprisingly strong enough to hold back this curse and after Hatake Kakashi, the ninja who is assigned to train him, performs his Evil Sealing Method on him, it becomes even easier for him to control it and use his Chakra normally. However, a series of events unfolds that change his attitude towards Orochimaru - and everybody else, for that matter. His brother arrives in Konoha, searching for Naruto - and when Sasuke challenges him, he gets such a horrid beating that his already manifesting inferiority complex seizes his whole mind and he sets his mind on only one thing, finding more power. For this cause he decides to take the curse seal into the next level instead of attempting to contain it, and turn his back on village without permission to train with Orochimaru, betraying Team 7 in the process. A genin team consisting of Naruto, Inuzuka Kiba, Hyūga Neji and Akimichi Chōji and led by Nara Shikamaru is sent to retrieve Sasuke, but encounter opposition from Orochimaru's "Sound Four".
Naruto manages to reach Sasuke on his own. It is then revealed that in his famous speech after slaughtering the Uchiha clan, Itachi did not only tell Sasuke to "run, run and cling desperately to life", but also that he will only be able to match him in battle when he has the same eyes as him, the Mangekyō Sharingan - which can only be attained by killing one's best friend. This was not revealed the first time Sasuke is forced to recall this scene, which suggests that he refused to remember until this moment in time. He realizes that without a family, he can only exist in rivalry with another, and through that, although he hates Naruto with a passion, he is also his best friend.

Naruto refuses to accept Sasuke's decision, as by his own admission Sasuke is like a brother to him and he can't bear to lose him to the twisted path of self-destruction he has chosen. They therefore engage in battle, and Sasuke soon realizes that the Sharingan he has is not enough to follow Naruto's movements. Forcing premature development of his Sharingan by force of will, Sasuke is able to analyze the tension in Naruto's body in order to predict what Naruto's next move will be. However, that is not enough to win conclusively, so Sasuke resorts to activating Orochimaru's cursed seal.
When Naruto witnesses Sasuke's body deform as a result of the activation of the cursed seal, he realizes that Sasuke has seriously turned his back on not only Team 7 but Konohagakure and, by proxy, Hi no Kuni, solely so he can achieve the ambition of killing his brother Itachi. His disbelief is what allows Sasuke to knock Naruto unconscious.
Witnessing Naruto's body, Sasuke recalls Itachi's words. He is ready to kill Naruto in order to gain the Mangekyō Sharingan, but then realizes that if he does, he and Itachi would be in essence the same person. He desires to kill Itachi in his own way, and not simply use Itachi's own techniques against him. So he chooses to leave Naruto alive, and heads towards the Village of Sound where he is greeted by Orochimaru.

Sasuke has always been able to grasp most ninja abilities with ease. When Naruto begins Sasuke is highly proficient with the Uchiha clan's signature fire-breathing and weapon-based techniques, talents he continues to hone throughout the series. Of the abilities gained through his Uchiha lineage, Sasuke most commonly uses the Sharingan, an ability manifested through the eyes and allows the user to see a small amount into the future. Sasuke's Sharingan develops for the duration of Part I, first only allowing him to track fast-moving objects and steal jutsu, culminating with his ability to predict the movements of others. In Part II he starts to use his Sharingan to cast illusions, allowing him to manipulate and confuse others. Sasuke's Sharingan reaches its peak after Itachi's death; through the death of the person closest to him, Sasuke awakens his own Mangekyou Sharingan gaining most of Itachi's techniques.
Orochimaru's influence is also a recurring element of Sasuke's abilities. During their first encounter in Part I, Sasuke is branded with a cursed seal, which grants him a brief surge in strength and speed when active. Sasuke's various uses of the seal cause him to crave more of its power as he enters to a second level amplifying the effect and drastically changing his appearance. Itachi removes Orochimaru and the cursed seal from Sasuke's body during their final battle. When Sasuke begins to train under Orochimaru, his physical abilities are greatly enhanced and he learns how to summon snakes and then birds to help him in battle. In addition to the techniques taught to him, Sasuke gains access to some of Orochimaru's more common abilities during the period he absorbs him into his body; Sasuke is able to recover from injuries in short periods of time and can regurgitate new bodies for himself.
Prior to Sasuke's defection, his teacher, Kakashi Hataketeaches him how to use the Chidori, a collection of lightning-based chakra in his hand that serves as a rapid thrusting attack that severely damages any target. While Sasuke is able to use the Chidori twice per day during Part I, his usage of the attack in Part II is unknown. Instead, Sasuke employs variants of the technique, using the fundamentals behind the Chidori to create a number of new abilities. Sasuke's first display of such an ability involves emitting electricity from his body as a shield and then sending it along the blade of his chokuto to increase its cutting potential. He later proves able to mold electricity into more solid forms such as extendable swords, and invents a jutsu where he does not use any of his low chakra store, and using actual lightning in an attack named Kirin.

After two-and-a-half years Sasuke, convinced that he has learned all he can from his new master, turns against a weakened Orochimaru before the latter can steal his body. Though Orochimaru attempts to force a body switch, Sasuke is able to reverse the process, absorbing Orochimaru and allowing him to put his plans of finding Itachi into motion. Sasuke forms "Hebi", a team of individuals assembled to aid him in finding Itachi. Once they are able to track Itachi down, Sasuke leaves his team behind and goes to kill his brother. When Itachi dies after a prolonged battle, Sasuke is collected by Madara Uchiha. Madara tells Sasuke that Itachi killed the Uchiha under the orders of Konoha, spared Sasuke out of love, and subsequently allowed himself to be killed. Saddened with the revelation that his long-hated brother did everything for him, Sasuke reunites with the members of Hebi, renaming them "Taka" with the intention of getting revenge on Konoha. In the meantime, Sasuke agrees to have Taka work with the Akatsukii by capturing the eight-tailed beast's host, Killer Bee, who later manages to escape from them. Taka then sets to kill Danzo Kimura, one of the figures behind the Uchiha clan's demise and the currently acting Sixth Hokage during a meeting of the current Kage. Ending up fighting the various Kage, Sasuke is unable to continue as he is rescued by Madara, who takes him to fight Danzo. As Sasuke is able to kill Danzo, he is found by Team 7. After a brief clash, he is retrieved by Madara, and demands that he transplant Itachi's eyes.

Hyuuga Hinata (Hinata Hyuuga in the English anime) is a character in the manga and anime Naruto. She is a member of the famous Hyuuga clan and posseses the powerful advanced bloodline, Byakugan.
Her Personality and Ability
Hinata is a incredibly shy and soft-spoken member of the Hyuuga clan. She is a very determined Chuunin-level Taijutsu user originally from Yuhi Kurenai's team 8. She possesses the Kekkei Genkai Byakugan and specialises in the Jūken, or "Gentle Fist", fighting style. This means that her field of vision is almost 360 and she is able to damage her opponent's chakra circulatory system and inner organs directly with even a slight tap. Since she is the main house's elder daughter, Hinata is supposed to be the heir to the clan; however, because her father deemed her a lost cause as far as talent is concerned - apparently of even lesser skill than her younger sister, Hanabi, and not even comparable to her cousin Neji - he disowned her and left her in the care of Yuhi Kurenai, who became her sensei. In more recent chapters of the manga, he seems to have taken her back in, though the reason is not made clear; going by scenes added in the anime, Hinata seems to have finally grown enough in talent and confidence to redeem herself in her father's eyes.
Struggling against her low self-confidence and slowly gaining ground, Hinata often has to remind herself to try her best instead of just giving up, like she used to. She has a crush on Naruto of which he is completely unaware, and has admired him for his positive and inspiring attitude years before they graduated the academy when he was still regarded by almost everyone else as a good-for-nothing reincarnation of a monster fox. Interestingly, Hinata is one of the few female characters close to Uchiha Sasuke's age who have not expressed romantic interest in him, but rather in Naruto (who is unpopular as an object of romantic affection to such a degree that no other girl we know of has had any for him even to this point in the manga, let alone in his earlier years as an outcast).

When Naruto introduces her for the first time he says she is a "a shy, dark, weird girl who always looks away when I look at her"; However from that point on events change his view on her quite radically and she earns his sympathy and friendship. Haruno Sakura comments that they're very similar and that come to think of it she's always been watching him, to which the ever-sharp Naruto replies, "Huh?".
Masashi Kishimoto says: "Humans are separated by differences they are born with but I want to believe that people can change and wanted to express that. Hinata's theme is 'by believing in yourself, you can become a new person.'

Chuunin Exam Arc
During the first part of the Chuunin exam, which is a written test, Naruto and Hinata end up sitting next to one another. When things start looking desperate for Naruto, she offers him to copy off of her paper (which in truth is not cheating but rather the objective of the test, as long as one manages not to get caught). Naruto refuses because this could get her in trouble and his pride won't allow him to do that sort of thing (and promptly laments this decision).
In the third stage preliminaries, Hinata offers Naruto a case of medicine she apparently keeps with her at all times. It works amazingly quickly because of synergy effects with Kyuubi's healing. Shortly after she faces her cousin Neji in a battle, which is one of the worst possible match-ups for her, if not the worst; he knows her own fighting style better than she does. Neji tells her that she is unfit to be a shinobi and should quit, and she responds she entered the exam to change herself. Neji then launches a vicious speech about how people can't change at her, which practically brings her to tears before Naruto, who has been getting more and more annoyed at Neji as the speech progressed, interrupts it and yells for Hinata to stand up for herself.
She does, and even though it is utterly futile as Neji is simply much stronger than she is, she manages to throw him off balance by the mere act of continuing to fight even though her situation is hopeless. She gets up at points where she decidedly should not be getting up, and on the verge of collapse tells Neji that he is confused and suffering within the fate of the main and branch houses. Upon hearing this Neji is driven into blind rage and runs straight at her, screaming, intending to kill her. The Jounin overseeing the match stop him in time from delivering this final blow, but Hinata is very wounded as it is and must be taken to intensive care. Naruto, deeply moved by Hinata's resolve and aggravated by Neji's comments, picks up some of Hinata's blood and clenches his fist, directing it at Neji and promising her he will defeat him.
One month later during the day of the third stage main matches Hinata sees Naruto again, who is feeling quite bothered because he has an upcoming match with Neji, too. He confides in her that he's starting to doubt himself, and he's only acting strong because he's frustrated from screwing up all the time. For a few seconds she gets over her inability to properly form sentences in his presence to tell him that she thinks of him as a strong person who makes mistakes and learns from them, and that in her eyes he's always been "a proud failure". This snaps him out of his self-doubt and before he leaves, he says that he's decided that he really likes people like her. He does not, of course, notice that this has sent her into a blushing, shocked reverie (which comically goes undisturbed even when Kiba arrives, puzzling him greatly).

Bikochu Arc
In the Anime, before the Naruto II arc begins Hinata (along with the rest of team 8) is sent on a special mission to retrieve the Bikochu ("Faint smell bug" or "scent bug"), a bug with a great tracking ability, in hopes it would help find Sasuke; Naruto is sent with them as well. During one of the mission's nights, Naruto wakes up to relieve his bladder and has his attention drawn to a nearby waterfall where he notices a naked girl performing a sort of swirling dance, making the water sprout in an orb around her. Awed by this captivating sight he approaches her, asking who she is, only to slip on a rock and fall in the water, alerting her to his presence. He apologises but there is no response, as she is already gone.

Though it is quite obvious that this girl was Hinata, Naruto fails to make the connection and later excitedly recounts to Kiba how he saw this "Ultra-Pretty girl" during the night, embarrassing her incredibly (fans of the show have drawn amused comparisons between the overall mood of the scene and mahō shōjo themes, dubbing this appearance of her "Magical Girl Hinata" or "Sailor Hinata" ala Sailor Mercury with tongue firmly in cheek).
Later, when they reach "Bikochu valley", they are being observed by members of the Kamizuru clan, which is also after the Bikōchū. Naruto and the others search for the Bikochu, reaching numerous dead ends; when it starts to rain, signalling that the Bikōchū will start laying eggs soon and time is nearly up, Hinata begins to lose faith and starts crying, but witnessing Naruto not giving up even in that seemingly hopeless situation proclaiming that "There's still time" inspires her to get a hold of herself and try again. Aided by her determination and the greater difference in temperature between the bugs and their surroundings now that it is raining, she successfully focuses her chakra enough to clearly see the bugs and sends Naruto off to the direction of a Bikochu located on a nearby branch. Naruto is ecstatic at their success and hug-clutches Hinata, leaving her blushing again. After she goes to wash her face, she is attacked by the ninja from earlier and easily subdued and kidnapped, as the constant searches have almost drained her chakra and stamina completely. Just as her teammates wonder where she has gone, a kunai carrying a message is flung at them - announcing her capture, demanding the Bikōchū in exchange and placing Naruto, Shino and Kiba in a very problematic situation.
The Kamizuru clan members leave her trapped in an elaborate trap inside a wax cocoon in a waterfall, which they are sure would ensure her death at any escape attempt. Shino, similarly trapped along with Naruto and Kiba, finally offers to reveal the whereabouts of the Bikōchū in return for her life, but when they reach the site of the trap the Kamizuru find the cocoon gone and conclude Hinata must be dead. Both teams rage at each other for this unnecessary death which benefits no one and only complicated matters, and just as a horrified Kamizuru member charges a driven-over-the-edge Kyūbi-influenced Naruto with killing intent Hinata appears, alive after all. She defeats the Kamizuru bee swarms by demonstrating a new, original jutsu she has developed - Shugohakke Rokujūyon Shō (Protection of the Eight Trigrams Sixty Four Palms), a mid-range technique (atypically for the Hyūga clan) which utilises chakra beams emitted from her hands to somewhat of a hybrid effect between Rokujuyon Sho's high speed and precision and Kaiten's defensive capabilities. Shino explains Hinata's motives of pushing herself to this level - she did it to be acknowledged by her father and Naruto; and as she drops to the ground from exhaustion Naruto catches her and pronounces her performance "awesome", grinning (though he still does not figure out that the girl he saw earlier was her, training this very technique). Hinata, not unexpectedly, blushes.
Hinata joins Naruto again on a mission to capture a theif. Hinata has another moment with Naruto as she has a small picnic with him and her teammate Kiba. Hinata makes riceballs made in the shape of Naruto's head. Naruto takes a bite and exclaims that it's good, and then saying that Hinata would make a great wife. Hinata again, turns red and blushes.

Naruto II Arc
The manga is less elaborate regarding the status of Hinata's growth when part I concludes and Naruto leaves for his three-year training period with Jiraiya. She is apparently on good terms with both her father and Neji, having had settled her issues with both. As Neji inquires as to what Hinata thinks of Naruto's departure, Kiba arrives and is delighted to inform Neji that when Hinata visited Naruto in the hospital she nearly fainted after seeing him all bandaged up (the only response she can muster is an embarrassed blush). She also goes to see Naruto off personally but ultimately does not gather the courage to actually do it, instead watching him from afar as always and resolving that she must work harder, too; a vow that was to be fulfilled, since, like the rest of the "rookie nine", she passes the exam and becomes a Chūnin during Naruto's absence. She makes her Naruto II debut in Chapter 282, sporting longer hair and her pining for Naruto only magnified by his long absence (to the degree she can't even bring herself to greet him, opting to hide instead and fainting when he rather loudly detects her). It is as of yet unknown how her skill changed during the two and a half years Naruto was gone as she has yet to show any new techniques; it is reasonable, however, to assume that she has attained at least the skills she has shown in her Anime experiences.
