Sharifian Army vs Nogi Maresuke

Location:

Damascus, Syria

Weapons: Whatever each army had in real life

Background:

To counter the Arab Revolt against them The Ottoman Empire
has hired Nogi Maresuke and a fraction of the Japanese Third Army
that would not lead to the Japanese losing the Battle of Nanshan.
The Ottoman Empire has agreed to financially support the Japanese
against The Russian Empire. This of course angers The Russian
Empire and they send whatever troops they can to support
the Sharifian Army against the Japanese and Ottoman troops.

Completely bored out of his mind Theodore Roosevelt
takes the 1st United States Volunteer Calvary to the
conflict to simply make a mess of things.

Who wins?

:p

Re: Sharifian Army vs Nogi Maresuke

During the era of Nogi Maresuke, Japan had one of the world's most well-trained, disciplined and well-equipped militaries, defeating the Qing Dynasty with a kill ratio of 1:35 and even turning out victorious against the Russian Empire in an all-out war 1904-1905.

I see no way for an inferior Arab force to defeat the Imperial Japanese Army on any battlefield and Roosevelt's cavalry squadron is too small to do any serious damage to either side. However, the Ottomans are poorly equipped and will probably only serve as gun fodder while the Imperial Japanese Army wins the day.

Nogi may not have been the most skilled commander of the IJA, but I cannot see him being defeated by the Arab Revolt... assuming that the Arabs use technology similar or inferior to that used by the Ottomans, they will be easy prey for the Imperial infantry.

The Qing dynasty was a hollowed out shell and the Russian Empire was on the brink of collapse at the time. But those Japanese sure loved their comfort girls. *nods*

Success on the battlefield is not as dependent on your own strength, as it is on the enemy's lack of it. Besides that, even if the two countries were unstable, they had enormous numbers and high-tech weapons on their side. The Japanese, however, had better soldiers and leadership. Skill matters more than numbers and equipment, in most battles.

Perhaps in an even battle but

500 against 2 is pretty much a given.

Without stability, there is no efficient way to bring your army into battle nullifying and previous martial technology or even it being brought to bear. The army has to fight; if it doesn't, the battle is won by the other side.

So we are still down to whether the Ottoman Army has more will to win. That of course depends on the time frame and some points in history the push deep into the Austrian/Hapsburg empire while during WW I they were an empty shell. remember it is only a fraction of the Third Army. ;)

This is a key point.

This isn't a simple one on one fight but rather an interconnected mess
of fights:

Sharifian Army vs Third Army

Third Army vs Russian Empire

Russian Empire vs Ottoman Empire

Ottoman Empire vs Sharifian Army

Everyone vs Rough Riders
